Tim, Sue, Anna and Daisy, I am so very sorry to hear your very sad news. You gave Stanley the most loving caring home he could have been given. I spoke to Tim several times over the past few months with regular updates on Stanley. He reached a fantastic age no doubt due to your love and care. There is never a right time to say goodbye but we do it out of love and kindness. Stanley, run fast and free, your wings were ready but the hearts were not. Much love to your family, Jo xxx

Wednesday am. With a very broken heart and sad news Stanley has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Very old age caught up with him. It was the right thing to do for Stanley but never the right time for us (humans). He was 5 weeks shy of his 14th year and 5 weeks shy of being with us 9.5 years (from 11.4.2013 the time flew by).
He was courageous and dignified and a gentle giant. We owed him so much, we gave loads of love and cuddles and he gave it back in bucket loads. He gave us so much joy. Our lives were enriched by him and our other greys, Brandy & Gemma.
His sister Daisy is doing well and has been with us 3.5 yes. Thank you all at Daybreaks for your fabulous work and dedication. Good luck to all and Al greys awaiting a forever home/sofa.
Lots of love Tim, Sue, Anna (Spanner) and of course Daisy xxxx

At last good news from the New Forest.
Stanley is 12 years old today. He has been with us for 7.5 years 2740 days (who's counting!). The years have passed quickly since Stanley & Gemma chose each other and again 18 months since Stanley & Daisy chose each other. He has been a good brother to them both as they say the rest is history. As Lady Victoria always says they are all special and inidividual (she is always right). Stan & Daisy are our 3rd 4th greys. Started March 2005 with Brandy, Gemma in October 2012. They are the first thing to sort in the morning and last thing at night.
We all would like to thank you all for the fantastic work in rehoming in these unprecedented times.
Good luck to all the carers, greys and all take care.
Love Stanley, Daisy, Tim & SUe, Anna (Spanner) xxxx

P:S: remember always "Tomorrow will be a good day" (Tim is reading Captain Tom at the moment). To all those we have loved and lost and are always forever in our thoughts.

Daisy will be 7 on Monday 1st June and been with us for 14 months now. She is definitely a nutcase!
Stanley had a bad accident in the garden on Friday 22nd morning. Emergency trip to vets and they had to operate to repair him. Dad (human Tim) didn't get collect till 8 pm. Stan is recovering nicely - thank goodness. Looked lovely in one of Sue's nighties. Daisy gave him a lovely kiss when he came home and didn't race up to him.

Hope you are all staying safe. Just to say Stanley has been living in the Diggins household for 7 years this weekend. Apart from a bit of arthritis Stanley is as handsome as ever (well I think so I sometimes call him my Prince Charming). Daisy is her usual self - races around the house and always in my pockets as she knows there will always be a treat even if their human Tim says no!!!
Take care all. enjoy the weather if you can but remember to STAY SAFE.

Just a quick hello to all Greys and their Humans. Hope you are keeping well and stay well.
Daisy will have been with Tim & Sue a year next week. She is a live wire. (I can't wait to see her run properly). Stanley, poor old fella is a bit wobbly with his arthritis at the moment, not walking too far but still ran (or bounce) across the back garden when someone walked passed other side of fence. Can certainly still bark when Tim hasn't got his tea ready!!!
Love to all. Take care. Spanner, Tim, Sue, Stanley & Daisy xx

Again Good News From the New Forest from Stanley & Daisy.
Stanley will be 11 on Sunday 13th and has been with us 6.5 years now. He is due to go to the vets tomorrow (Wednesday) pm to see an Orthopaedic specialist for assessment. He is walking better so we thought while he is better a check over to keep him ok might help in the long-term. I'm sure he will get cake on Sunday and that Daisy will help him eat it.
Thanks to all the carers and greys for their forever homes/sofas.

Good luck to all Greys in the show on Sunday.

Lots of love Stanley, Daisy, Tim & Sue plus Spanner (Anna).

Good news from the New Forest from Daisy and Stanley.
Daisy has now been with us 6 months (the time has flown by). At times it is quite eventful although they do seem to love each other to bits!!! She is taking some time getting use to other breeds (work in progress). Stanley is getting a bit better regarding ? arthritis and front legs limping, we are gradually reducing his pills. It is his 11 birthday in a few weeks.
We all hope Lady Victoria and her tribe has a lovely holiday in Woolacombe. If anyone deserves a good holiday she does.
We hope all greys get their forever home/sofa soon.

I am 7 today (hip hip hurray) and have been living in this mad house for 2.5 years now. Gemma is just over 9 and been here 3 years.
We came up for the show - Friday to Monday - its a long trip (especially with our Human driving!!!). Gemma & I stayed with Auntie Mary and Uncle Martin now in their new home - lovely.
The Solihull Show was great as usual. A big thanks from all of us to all the organisers, helpers and stalls. A fantastic array of greys - all of us looking fabulous.
I got a rosette as I entered in the 6-8 years and came 5th. Gemma entered to prettiest girl and came 5th so got her rosette too.

Tim getting some tablets from vets which he had last time which helped. Semi ran to greet me so can't be too bad. His sister Gemma near enough gets her nose in my trouser pockets.
Doesn't stop him barking though.

From the New Forest we are celebrating that Stanley has been with us for 1 year (tomorrow 12th April) and his sister Gemma 18 months. Stanley is still a bit of a 'barker' and Gemma has now started to copy.

He is very gentle for a big black boy. We love them to bits, it's fantastic to have them, to keep us busy. Gemma ripped out another toe nail 2 weeks ago.

Good luck to all others with greys and our thoughts are with those who have had the hard task to say Goodbye recently.

Timxxx

P:S: Don't mention cats, people on bikes and car trailers!!!

Obviously the Yumega is good advice, but Coconut Oil is wonderful stuff and can help with all sorts of things. I started taking it and then have put my 2 greys on it too. (Start slowly with a small dose ie I started with 1/2 tsp & now give 1 tsp) It has helped keep Bob (black) super shiny and has also helped with the bald bum / thigh problem...nice and fluffy now!

I get this:

And if the normal Yumega doesn't work I've had my Lucy on their 'Boost' and also their Showdog Yumega oil which is a bit richer than the other Yumega Oils... it's made a great difference to Lucy's fluffy, tatty coat and like Linda says even Lucy's bare bits are growing fur :) Julie x

Hi. We use Yumega to help the condition of our girls' (Lola & Lena) skin and coat. It's good stuff and widely available. I believe Ruth also sells it at the kennels. Lola has itchy skin at certain times of the year so we use Yumega Plus and it definitely helps. We started her on it after Crufts 2012. She also re-grew hair on the bald itchy patches behind her elbows once we started her on this. I've just put her back on Yumega Plus a week ago as the itching had started again so we think it's a seasonal problem. Otherwise they both have the normal Yumega. lena was Ok apart from being a bit scurfy and she had a great coat but Lola started to outshine her so we put Lena on the Yumega in summer 2012 as well and in Sept she won best black greyhound at The GGG in Nottingham last year so we think it helped her shine and stand out. Full dose for ours is one 5ml spoon twice a day, so a bottle lasts quite a while. There's useful information on their website too. Doesn't specifically mention eczema, but refers to itchy skin conditions. It is all natural and balanced for omega3/6 so might be worth a look.

Morning. Quick question, if anyone can help. Mum (Sue) was given some advice about Stanley's eczema regarding adding butter in his diet. Wondered how much and for how long? Or are there any more tips out there? Thanks.

Stanley and Gemma had a 2 night break last week which they seemed to have enjoyed and hopefully they were well behaved.
As usual rushed to see me - perhaps its the treats - nice to be greeted by 2 wagging tails although they can hurt. Love the way they settle down wherever they want to - ie. Stanley lay down in front sink so Mum couldn't wash up and if she wanted to cook she couldn't as Gemma lay there. Just as bad as my cat Thomas always lying in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even though obviously smaller than greys, he doesn't like to be moved.
Mum & Dad have new neighbours and they have a cat - interesting as don't think Stanley very good although Gemma talks to them. Actually they haven't met my 2 - that will be fun if we ever try it.

Poor Stanley - he and Dad outnumbered last night and he retreated to kitchen and garden. Mum's birthday and we had all popped round for cake. He did get cake though as did Gemma who also had her birthday yesterday - she was 7.

Just a quick update. Stanley's tail is now fine well must be he whips it around as does Gemma with hers. She is mostly putting up with him - he insists on sharing the bed and uses her bum as a pillow. She puts up with it for so long before either moving or giving him a nudge for him to move.
They are still getting me into trouble, who can not look at those eyes and ignore them. More intrested in treats than playing with the bubbles I had bought for my cats. Never mind at least they are glad to see me.

Having a cry as just read about Finch. Like to have a look every few days for any news for Dad. From what I have learned over the last few months about DB, she was in the best place and with the best of 'friends'.
Off to see Stanley and Gemma today after work will be giving them both a cuddle and a treat as well as my 2 cats when I get home.
Take care everyone.

Nurse Gemma - never but apparently met him at the gate when he got back and let him choose which bed he wanted. Popped in last night both came straight to me and apart from the bandage on his tail Stanely was fine and obviously thought I have some treats but I was under strict orders - although they did share one later.

Poor Stanley (or Stan The Man as I like to call him) is going to have his tail shortened because of the previous injury/ongoing infection. Hopefully then he shouldn't have any more problems. Gemma will have to be nice and not boss him for a few days.

We've had to bandage Stanley's tail because he wags it so much he has damaged the tip!!! I really feel for this boy as he is so friendly, cuddly and lively but his barking is surely putting people off. Please look beyond the noise, this boy has so much to offer, I am convinced his barking is just because he is in a kennel environment and he will be so different in his own home. Cuddles my beauty. xx

My sister's Greyhound, also called Stan...barked a lot during his stay at Daybreaks, but once he was in his own home and in a quieter environment didn't bark at all. I am sure all young Stanley needs is that forever sofa. I hope someone will soon give him a chance xxx

I think the barking just a learned behaviour. He probably thinks the barking gets people to come & say hello. These little things easily picked up. Maybe he should be out of his kennel & on his lead this weekend so people meet him without the woof? Really super pooch though, we've met him a few times. My 3 sons like to meet him when we call in. My cuddle for Stanley today as I think he's a misunderstood boy! Although he can be a bit strong on his lead to start with, he loves being out on his walk and is well behaved.Sadly, he lets himself down in kennels as he does like to bark - and it really is only his way of drawing attention to himself and making sure that he isn't forgotten in the midst of all the activity going on around him. Yesterday, after his dinner, he went back to his kennel, hopped up onto the bed and snuggled down on the blankets beautifully. This lovely boy just needs his chance. xx

I wonder if people are put off looking at Stanley because he makes such a racket when people go to see him? His tail is wagging the whole time, its not in any way hostile or aggressive-its his way of saying come & say hello to me. He's excited to see new friends I think. He is a 'super dog with kind eyes & that's something I look for. Maybe if we foster him he will learn there's no need to bark. I feel, with all retired greys, once they're in a home these little kennel 'habits' disappear. They're totally different once they come home.

stanley stanley stanley
His a little shy at first but after that his a lovely boy whose tail rarely stops wagging! He loves his fuss and treats (especially a squirt of honey). He can be abit noisy around feeding time and when new vistors come to the kennels, just his way of saying "hello, i'm here", he would make a fab watch dog as he'd bark to let you know someones there. Very gentle, not pushy or bouncy and walks well on a lead. He would make a lovely addition to any family :)
Good luck boy, enjoy your retired life
