Such tragic news and absolutely devastating. Bernadette and family I'm so sorry you have lost your precious boy too soon. When the pain of his passing starts to lessen, I hope you will be able to feel proud that you gave him a happy life after he was living in such terrible circumstances previously. Thinking of you. It was with extreme sadness, last night I had a text from Riley's owner that Riley had been PTS. He had coli enteritis which is inflammation of the small intestine from Escherichia coli E. coli ) bacteria.
Riley (Boo) was fetched from a car park in Worcester in March with Belle another greyhound. Their previous owner had taken them off a person who had threatened to hang them. Their owner had then become homeless and the dogs had lived in a car with him as he had no alternative.
As a measure of desperation the dogs were tied up in a car park so someone could rescue them whilst the owner kept watch as apparently he had contacted numerous rescues in the Worcester area and non had been able to help.
When the dog warden arrived the owner came forward and told the warden of his situation which is why we know so much. The warden contacted the Retired Greyhound Turst Head Office who in turn contacted Daybreaks and we took them in.
Sadly Belle lost her fight with an intestinal tumour in May.
It is a heartbreaking story for the lives of Belle and Boo (Riley) but I am sure they are both running free together and will never be forgotten. Thinking of his owners who are devastated xxxxx

Hi Clareb - Riley is still an in-patient at Fivelands. He is stable and has not had any bleeding since yesterday morning and managed to walk outside yesterday to toilet. We are keeping our fingers crossed that he continues to improve. x
Tuesday 06 Aug 12:35
Is there any news on Riley? I hope his doing better.
Monday 05 Aug 07:28
Thanks DuleekDandy but the real thanks go to his family who have stood by him all through - we only stepped in to help for a short while as we obtained a second opinion from the vets local to us and also to give Riley's family a much needed break - they have been through so much.
I will keep you posted but I am desperately hoping he has had a settled night at the vets and can hopefully go home soon x
Sunday 04 Aug 21:37
So sorry to hear about Riley being so poorly. Is it similar to how poor Ben (Emma's dog) was, Ruth? I remember he had test after test without much diagnosis for quite a while. Hope being on the drip makes him feel better and that he gets a diagnosis very soon so that treatment for it can begin.
What lovely people you 2 are to take over looking after him.
Thank you Ruth and Robbie for everything you do for these darling dogs xXx
Sunday 04 Aug 21:23
So sorry to hear how poorly Riley is...hope and pray he will be ok and the vet will find out what is causing his illness. Xxx
Sunday 04 Aug 21:15
I am really upset to say that Riley took a downturn on Saturday with torrential diarrhoea and we had a rough night with him last night too.
Therefore Rob took him to the vets this morning and he has been admitted and is on a drip and stopping overnight. The vets just don't know what is causing him to be so poorly but I am keeping everything crossed that he can be helped. He is a such a wonderful gentle happy boy who doesn't deserve this :-( I am missing him and thinking also of Bernadette and her family and praying tomorrow brings better news for him xxxxx
Thursday 01 Aug 14:13
Sorry to hear Riley is not too well it's such a worry when they are poorly. Sending best wishes for his recovery. xx
Thursday 01 Aug 08:49
Poor Riley has not been well for a little while. He has had investigations and an operation at his local vets to try and find out what is wrong with him. I have been in close contact with Bernadette, his mum, and we went together yesterday to Fivelands to get a second opinion for his treatment.
I am going to look after him for a little while as he needs to be fed 3 times a day on a very strict diet of chicken and rice and he is due to go back to the vets in a week for another B12 injection and to see how he is doing.
It has been a stressful time for Bernadette and her family and I want to say a big thank you to her for everything she has been doing for him.
He has had a settled night here and I am keeping my fingers crossed he starts to improve and gain weight very soon.

With Belle being homed yesterday, we paired Boo up with Mitzy and they seemed happy sharing a bedroom! From the photo you can see this kennel is now re-named 'Lucy's Rest' in memory of a very special girl homed through PB RGT before we opened Daybreaks. It is part of our new kennel sponsor scheme which is helping to raise much needed funds towards the continued improvement at Daybreaks Kennels.

Good luck with finding your "proper" forever home, hope it with is ur sister but if that can't be then I hope you both get lovely homes where you can forget about the past, and that the past is a distant memory ! Thursday 07 Mar 22:47
Lots of love to Boo and Belle. Boo has the same father as my Twiggy; how different their lives have been. Can't bare to think of what may have happened to them if it wasn't for the great people who found out about their awful existance and rescued them. xxx
Thursday 07 Mar 19:15
Who could resist that face? Shame on those people. Hope karma catches up with them.
Thursday 07 Mar 18:26
What a lovely fella, hope he has a happy ending and goes to a home that treasures him along with Belle. Sounds like Boo & Belle have really been through the mill. He gets my cuddle today but he has to share it with Belle!!

I lived in Worcester with my hounds, one from Daybreaks and never ever saw these beauties anywhere and we used to get around. Horrific story but now hopefully they will both find a loving home. Good luck beautiful pair.xx
Thursday 07 Mar 09:32
Can not believe what I have just read. I would home you all if I could. Nearly crying - how can people be so cruel.
Better not tell Dad (Gemma's Dad) as it will upset him too.
Wednesday 06 Mar 21:55
Look at Boo's feet. He's wearing spats - just needs a few black buttons up the front! I hope he settles okay, not sure I'm going to sleep tonight thinking of him and Belle. Mand x
Wednesday 06 Mar 21:37
Boo walked beautifully this afternoon, he is a fairly big boy with a funny, stumpy tail but so sweet. He enjoyed his supper and then headed back to his snug kennel with the pretty Belle. Big cuddles sweetheart. xx
Wednesday 06 Mar 21:12
Nearly cried reading their backgrounds poor little things :( Boo and Belle look beautiful who could resist Boo's eyes? Hope they find their forever home soon :) xx
Wednesday 06 Mar 21:09
Boo - what a fantastic boy, you seemed a bit dazed when we fetched you and refused to go to sleep, even though u wanted too ! He lay in the car as good as gold but with wide open eyes, well boy whatever it was those days are gone now DB will love you from here on in, I may have a bit of a soft spot for you btw x
Wednesday 06 Mar 20:36

Wednesday 06 Mar 20:32

Wednesday 06 Mar 19:26
I'm hoping there are extra tasty treats for this handsome boy. Such soulful eyes. He will get tomorrows cuddle. Belle got there first today.
Wednesday 06 Mar 19:20
Sorry boo I accidently changed your name to pip by mistake oops xx
Wednesday 06 Mar 19:19
Well pip you are a gorgeous boy and belle is a darling I saw them having their photos being taken this afternoon but you would have laughed if you could have seen how many volunteers it took to get pip looking in the right direction for a decent photo well done to Sarah who managed it finally
Wednesday 06 Mar 19:07
Boo and Belle have arrived today at Daybreaks after being collected from Worcester by Steve, one of our volunteers. It is a very long and sad story but cutting it short, they are lucky to be alive as one of the previous owners threatened to hang them, they have been apparently living in the back of a car for over a month. Thank you to Pip Singleton and Margaret Stocken for aiding their rescue and helping them come to Daybreaks.
