This little girl is being so good! She is full of life - loves playing with her toys and is great with our greys. I left her at home all day yesterday to see how she would be with being left and she was golden - no accidents either! If you think you could offer her a home, please give me a call.... It was lovely to meet your family and Fraser is gorgeous....he looked soooo handsome in his Lily Peeps coat.
I am really impressed at the way you are approaching taking on another dog and I really hope that whichever doggie you choose it works out for all of you. Whichever one it is will certainly be a lucky one. xx Bob, Orla & Mum

I'm sure you're right. I do tend to over analysis things. In this case though I just want what is best for the dogs. I (we) will do everything to make sure this works.

Crazyliveshere, you have to go with your heart, and you spent so much time with the dogs today, you obviously had a bond with Noddy, don't stress about it, Fraser and Noddy seemed to get on fine. Jill.

To walksinwellies. Just read your message now.
Having been to the show today, I feel guilty now. I felt that
Fraser and Mandy didn't really click though. Also, I feel that maybe
I didn't give her enough time. Damb. We spent some time with Lou Lou
with her muzzle off and also Jenny. However, there was no connection between them. I saw Noddy and even with the muzzle on she tried to lick my face. When introduced to Fraser with her muzzle off they were related and stood side by side , heads almost together like they were old friends.
We did therefore decide (after much deliberation) decide on Noddy.
We may have no problems with her but there is less know about her than Mandy. I've now got the pre wedding jitters, eeek. Can anyone PLEASE give any words of wisdom. :-/

Hi crazyliveshere. Mandy is such a lovely dog, so loving and gentle and she settled with us really well. She did become anxious in her last week with us and not sure if this was because she was being left on her own for longer periods (our son had gone back to uni and we both work). We felt guilty leaving her. She had heard some bangs on her morning walks- we think this was some shutter gates opening on an industrial unit which backs onto the park. Not sure if this spooked her. She was only anxious when it was time to go out and once out although she didn't enjoy the walk as she had done before she still came out on the walks. When we took her to the local water park in the car she was fine there. Not sure if she was lonely as she was being left for longer periods.
Ruth has taken her home and she has been fine there.
She is such a loving dog and she is also very playful. We just felt we were not giving her the best home where she was on her own while we were out at work.
If you want to ring Daybreaks they can give you my phone number and you are very welcome to give me a call xxx

I would really like some feedback from walksinwellies who had
Mandy for five weeks. I need as much info as possible so I can
be sure that she will be happy here. We can give her a great life

Thanks.

Jill has offered to bring Mandy up to meet us on Tuesday on hhwe
way to Manchester. Our grey boy is a non racer and so soppy you wouldn't believe it. Is there anything else her foster mum can tell me.
It says that she became scared to go out? We do get quite a
lot of fireworks round here, is that what the problem was?
Any additional info will be greatly appreciated as I'm being sensible
and not letting my heart ruley head.
Many thanks. Maria

Oh Ruth I am sooooo glad she has settled with you. We have missed her but there must have been something which stopped her from wanting to go out. In the house she was wonderful. Mandy has been coming home with me so I could assess how she was after she was returned a couple of days ago. My first thoughts were to give her some herbal calming tablets and use a thunder shirt. However, I have not needed to - she seems to be thriving on the company of my greys and seems very happy - she has been playing with her toys, clean in the house, sleeping through the night downstairs with mine and very excited to go out on walks. I think she just the company of another dog and hope she can find a home very soon as she is just such a lovely girl. She is not cat friendly sadly.

I feel for you and your family it is very upsetting when your grey gets stressed we were the same with our tinker last year she wouldn't go for a walk or go in the garden when it got dark she heard some fireworks of and that was that not going anywhere so we used to take her while it was light and even took her out and stayed with her while she done her toilet even now it's getting to this dreaded time she is getting upset as the dark nights are here we put her bed in a corner and cover her up as she is so stressed she can't stand with fright so I think it's time we are going to try a thunder coat as nothing seems to help we leave the curtains closed soon as it gets dark put the tv high so she can't hear things so my heart go s out to you and to this beautiful girl who needs someone to love her and give her a chance of home life bless you don't be disheartend things could work out for you xxxxx

I really do feel for you walkersinwellies, as this is such an upsetting situation. One of my lovely greyhounds hates fireworks even in the distance and as the dreaded time of year approaches, we have to re-schedule our walks as she won't go out in the dark, even into the garden. Luckily for us she must have a mega-bladder so this aspect has never been an issue during firework time We've had her over 3 years now and though she is definitely better than she was, she is simply much happier and copes with her stress by snuggling up in bed and we cover her with a nice fleecy blanket. We've used a few techniques which have all helped, including Julie Sadler's TTouch workshops, the Sounds Scary CD and calming essential oils. It's a daunting situation I do appreciate that, and we are lucky that we have some flexibility with our working hours which enables us to do all of this. They are all different though... our other one Lena is completely oblivious - you can walk her out with bangs and crashes and crackles all around her and it's like nothing is happening, so please don't be disheartened. xxx

We were heartbroken when we returned Mandy yesterday. She is such a lovely dog, very playful, not reactive to other dogs and wonderful on the lead. She slept on her bed all through the night and she doesn't bark at all. Over the last week she had started to become stressed and we couldn't work out why. This would show itself when it was time to go for a walk or even to go out in the garden, from sniffing every blade of grass previously and enjoying her walks she just didn't want to go. She had heard some bangs in the distance and I wonder if this had stuck in her mind.
We both work, although I am close enough to come home at lunchtime, but we felt we could not be home enough to see her through this.
She really is a lovely dog and I wonder if a doggy companion might help her to give her a bit of confidence.
She loves having her tummy stroked and she loves playing fetch with the ball. xxx

Sadly Mandy has been returned today. Over the last week she has suddenly become very stressed, withdrawn and won't even go out into the garden. We are not sure why, but we feel it is best that she has come back. It could just be that she is missing canine company? I will take her home and update everyone as to how she is getting on.
Her owners are understandably very upset but we support their decision to do the right thing for her.

Hi Everyone, Mandy here.
My cunning plan is working, if I cock my head to one side, lift one ear and open my big beautiful brown eyes as wide as I can, I can make my mom and dads hearts melt. Add to that my tail which just seems to be wagging all the time and I am on to a sure thing!
I may have had a rough start in life but it's worth the wait to find some lovely people at the kennels, my foster family and a mom and dad who love me to bits. I think they have become greyhound converts!
I have some new doggy friends - there are lots of them walking when I go out and I am getting more confident and can say hello.
I think my forever home is in the bag!!
Hugs and kisses Mandy xxxxx

Hi Daisydog. I have been such a good girl today on my walk to Kingsbury water park and didn't stop once, well only to have a sniff at all the new things and look at the ducks! Mom and Dad were so pleased. Thanks for all the advice and mom is going to leave her jumper on my bed when they go out so I can snuggle up to it. Lots of hugs Mandy xx

Daisydog here. ' I stop when mum takes me out sometimes too. I get a bit scared of new places and can become a statue if I see or hear something that spooks me. Mum uses the ttouch wrap which really helps me. Julie Sadler at training is the lady to speak to. My mum always encourages me but never forces me and sometimes we just turn round and go another way. And when I was very new and left on my own she would give me one of her old unwashed tshirts to cuddle up to while she went out. I am a big brave girl now and mum just goes out quietly and I mostly never realise she has gone out. Training really helped me make lots of new chums and I get to meet lots of boys. Its fab. I on't think I will ever be a girl who likes big long walks, especially if its wet or windy or a little chilly but I am very happy with my squeaky duck and a biscuit.' xx

Hi, thought we would let everyone know how Mandy is getting on now she is 2 weeks into her months trial with us. She is certainly a little food monster and constantly on the search for food and can be in the kitchen in less than a second if she thinks there is something to eat! On a good point though is if we are eating at the table we do ignore her and she will go and lie down on her bed.
She is very playful and will play fetch with the ball, she brings it back for you to throw again and I must admit we could do with a longer garden as she quite often has to put the brakes on as she hurtles towards the back fence!!!
She is very good on the lead and does not pull although it does take quite a lot of encouragement to get her to go out. She has taken to stopping for no apparent reason over the last few days and not always in the same place, we give her lots of encouragement and this tends to get her going again but not sure why this is happening-any ideas all you grey owners as we are newbies and have had labradors in the past.
Her big test is over the next 2 weeks when she will be left on her own for longer periods as our son has gone back to uni and we will be out earning the pennies! Fingers crossed x

Mandy is settling in so well, she is such a gentle girl and her greeting this morning was wonderful- a full body wag never mind the tail!!! She is really clever and even bought the ball back in the garden for me to throw again. I will have to get used to seeing her run after the ball it seems to be four long legs all going in different directions!!
Mandy sends a big kiss for Norris and hope he isn't missing her too much x

We were wondering how you and Mandy were getting on so very pleased to hear she is settling with you, I knew she would. She totally destroyed one of Norris's toys when she was here, I was surprised at how quickly she did it. I would suggest a kong too, especially as they can be stuffed with treats and things to make them work harder. We have also used a treat ball which Missy worked out, but it took Norris a little longer.

Please give Mandy a bit hug from us and tell her that Norris is missing her kisses too! xxx

So pleased to hear Mandy is doing so well. My greyhound has several toys with arms, legs, heads etc missing! I found the most robust are the Kong ones. We do sell a selection of them at the kennels or you can buy them at most good pet shops or online. Please give Mandy a hug from me. Xxx

Mandy is starting to settle in and slept downstairs on her own all through her first night. I did expect her to come upstairs but not a peep from her! We have taken her on a long walk around the park this evening and she met a few cats on the way. Interested but carried on walking after we told her to "leave". She is very interested in all the cuddly toys around the house, so much so that I have had to hide them all away. Her fluffy pheasant was ripped to pieces in seconds - it looked as though it had snowed with all the stuffing scattered around the place! Any suggestions for something a bit more robust would be greatly appreciated!!!

Mandy has well and truly settled in and found her feet. She is very well behaved, doesn't pull on the lead, (in fact out of the three she is the best behaved on lead!), she loves to be fussed and is a gentle girl. She gets on well with Norris and our non greyhound, Missy. So far nothing seems to have bothered her, she just takes it all in her stride. As I type she is stretched out on the rug (despite there being three beds in the room) without a care in the world! She would like to sleep on the sofa, but unfortunately, Missy isn't prepared to share with anyone who has more than 2 feet. She really does need and deserve that sofa of her own. There must be someone who has space free on theirs for a gorgeous girl?

Mandy is staying with us for the next three weeks, unless someone wants to give her a permanent home.
She has settled well and is so sweet natured, Missy has been her usual bossy self, but Mandy just ignores her completely. Norris is totally not bothered by her so looking good. She is the fourth Grey we have had in the house, and the first to go upstairs, we have to be really careful opening the lounge door or she's up there like a shot! I think she wants to sample our double bed rather than her own. I will put up some photos when she has fully settled, but she is totally adorable. Anyone who wants a very affectionate girl with a very waggy tail, I know the perfect girl for you.

Mandy has been to Stratford tday she has been taking in the sights with thousands of tourists. This gorgeous girl is so very happy, very friendly with everyone and loving all the attention. She traveled beautifully though I did have to lift her in into the back of the car.She was not phased by all the people that were milling about and encountered several dogs on and off lead. This girl was not reactive not even to the lovely people we came accross on the way back to the car with a very small but very yappy little dog.I explained about Mandy and we had a little meet and greet session with the yappy dog strutting his stuff-not a peep or movement out of her.Mandy is truely a special lady whom inspite of her history is very happy girl.PS she walks lovely on the lead and was more than happy to walk alongside my lurcher.I think she will be snapped up very quickly as she is a bit of a dream ticket.

I've just checked Mandy's race history, she ran 96 races and I'm really disappointed to see that she raced virtually every week (sometimes twice) since 2010 until June last year and the thanks she gets is to end up as a cruelty case. I'm not surprised that she looks older than five : (
This said, she was incredibly friendly on her arrival today and lapped up every bit of attention.
This little girl deserves a very happy retirement, she has certainly earned it. Good luck Mandy, you will melt someone's heart very soon. Xxx
