It's been 5 years ago yesterday since I took Arry home on foster. How time flies. He gave me a scare at the beginning of the year resulting in my husband taking him to vets. They said because of his age(13) and his heavy breathing they said it might be his time to go
Husband was given strict instructions that nothing was to happen unless I was there. Arry came home with antibiotics and metacam. Within a week he was back to being Asbo Arry!!! The breathing was because he was stressed. I'm just looking at him, he has decided with Good Boy Flloyd to take over my at home hospital bed!!! Love this cheeky boy to bits. Happy foster day for yesterday. Xxxx

Happy 13th birthday to our gorgeous Asbo Arry. So far this morning he is having a lie in, to be followed, when he surfaces by breakfast, more sleeping and a special dinner of fish and chips and then his 'normal' dinner. You make me laugh every day when my carers come with your refusal to move from the sofa,
sometimes you will raise your head but usually just
open an eye to see what is happening. So still a little
bit Asbo but wouldn't want it any other way!! Happy birthday Arry, love you loads. Xxx

Happy 4th gotcha day to my handsome Asbo Arry, best birthday present ever. For those who follow the dinner traditions it will be sausage, mashed potatoes with vegetables and a little gravy, maybe a little chicken too. Love you loads Asbo. Xxxx

Asbo Arry really enjoyed his Valentine's pamper today. He actually jumped into the bath and stood there beautifully, his back legs had a bit of a wobble but this can be caused the warm water relaxing the muscles. Once done he was equally happy to jump back out. He was a good boy with the drier, ear cleaning, nail clipping and teeth scraping, although when Laura finished scraping then used the plaque wipes and finally used the plaque gel he decided to do dog down and dropped to the floor, absolutely nothing wrong just decided it was time to lie down!!!! Nothing like scaring someone. Did wonder that as he was so very good we call him Asbo? Think that just summed it up. He also received his lovely valentine's goody tin with various lovely goodies in....well worth it I say. Thanks Laura, hope he didn't give you too much of a scare!!!!!

Thanks to Ruth for dealing with Asbo Arrys corns today. No problem with digging around with the scalpel, he was actually dropping off to sleep, different matter with the foot file, much gentler than the digging around but was not too keen on that part. Daft dog, as they say, 'don't figure'. Won't mention he pooed in the car on the way to Kennels, in the car park and outside the office, all in about half an hour!! Doesn't do that much in a day normally.
He is booked in for his Valentine's pamper with Laura next Wednesday, he did love to have a bath. At 12 years young I thought he would enjoy it.

Arry, sad to say the guppie puppies went over the rainbow bridge earlier this week. Mom was very upset. I heard her say tht she is getting some sticks, I don’t understand sticks but these a special ones, leaf ones that eat bramble, can’t imagine that! Oh no Arry, I cut my leg last year and ripped my carpal pad. Not as bad as you though, you poor thing. Mom says my pad healed really quick, the cut took a little longer. Keep lifting your leg for sympathy and use those eyes for extra treats. Lubs you. Florence xxx

Poor Arry has been in the wars. Over the weekend, we think early on Sunday morning he managed to cut his leg, just around the carpal (stopper) pad. Don't know how he did it but it resulted in a 3cm wound. So vet trip this morning, so strange taking on of my own dogs and not a kennel dog!

Got to Fivelands and phoned to say I was outside. Then Uncle Christian the vet and hairy man came out, had a look at poor Arry, who obligingly showed his leg, and he took him inside whilst I waited in the van. A while later he emerged with Arry and told me he had cleaned the wound, stapled and dressed it. He said (and don't laugh those of you who know Asbo Arry) what a very good, lovely boy he was. Arry took great pleasure in in lifting his leg to show me his bandage, repeatedly. Follow up in 2 weeks to have the staples removed.

Indeed and with 5 or 6 Gotcha days and 5 birthdays then they are very lucky chaps! I am sure they are all worth it though. Florence says to tell you she regularly gets sausage and mash as she gets a portion whenever mom and TC have them, her favourite sausages are M&S simply range! Arry appears to have collaborated with Florence our getting the petition on here under my name, after all she has a special relationship with Flloyd! Xx

Hi Thethirdronnie, so pleased you are all well. I was totally unaware that Arry had been in collaboration with you about a petition regarding his second gotcha foster day meal. I think that this issue may need to go out to a public vote and depending on the results the decision will then be made...only fair I think. The date for the vote closing will be 19 March, this will then give me time to get the nessecary food stuffs in if required to be consumed the following day!

I am starting to think the furry five will expect this on a regular basis!

Well the choice came down to mashed potatoes with either sausages or fish fingers. By a narrow margin sausages won the poll. All five are now all crashed out in the living room waiting for it to digest! LM hope this gives you some ideas for Sam's birthday.

I have decided that as I technically fostered Arry twice, the second foster day will be void as he was officially signed up two weeks later on my birthday (he briefly went out for a week and came back to me)! There will sadly be no special dinner on that date, unless he puts out a petition demanding this!!

As you will know by now, I decided to fail at my second foster attempt! I arrived with Ares at the kennels this morning and told Ruth that I couldn't foster him any longer. She said 'oh, I'm so sorry, I don't know where we can put him'. I thought it was only fair at this point to ask if we could complete the homing paperwork! So Ares is now 'Arry, know what I mean 'Arry!!! That will teach my husband to ask what I wanted for my birthday!

An update on Ares.

Ares is still at home with me. He is such a good boy, he now comes upstairs to bed and I don't hear a sound from him. On my working days he has accompanied me to the kennels, he gets on well with any other dogs that are here. He is currently lying in the office on a bed chilling out!
He is such a lovely boy who likes his cuddles and his sofa!!

I took Ares home last night on short term foster. I really didn't know I had him, he settled straight away. Last night he decided to stay downstairs when we went to bed, not a sound from him. I got up around 3.30 to check in him and he had come upstairs and was lying by the bedroom door. He has investigated everywhere and has discovered the sofa already!! He is so very well behaved.

He has come with me to the kennels today and has spent most of the day chilled out and relaxed. He also travels really well in the car.

He really is a super lad and very affectionate, we desperately want to get him into his a forever home. If you would like to view him or get any more information about him, please give the kennels a call and I will be more than happy to bring him in and answer any questions you may have.

If I was able to I would have him I would in a heartbeat, but I am unfortunately not in a position to do so. :(

Ares came back to the kennels this morning and went straight out to foster. What a very handsome and lovely lad he is. His owner was distraught to have to return him. :( He is a very friendly lad who loved meeting all the other Greyhounds...the girls were especially interested in meeting him, can't blame them he is stunning! It's obvious how well he has been loved and looked after. Our thoughts are with his family, such a hard decision to make. Xxx

Pleased to see ares has a foster home the poor chap. Hope you settle ok and get your forever home soon. Like I've said before i think i suffer with separation anxiety so can sympathise with how these boys and girls feel! Xxx

So lovely to meet you today you gorgeous boy. You were so good and calm taking everything in your stride. I am sure you will enjoy the next couple of weeks in your temporary foster care and maybe you will get to meet my boys and have a day out if you have not been snapped up. There will be someone or a couple out there who are retired and around a lot of the time who would suit a mature calm boy like yourself.......we just have to find them for you. From the sound of things your separation anxiety could be managed but you need to be in the right environment with the right people who have the time and experience. At least your previous family did the right thing in returning you to the care of Daybreaks. Thank god they did not follow their vet's advice. That just makes my blood run cold. Keep your chin up....everyone will do their utmost to help you. Keep calm and tomorrow is another new day full of hope. Xxx

I am so upset and shedding a tear to hear about this boy. The thought of putting him to sleep is awful. I dont know what his problems are and I doubt my circumstances are right for fostering him if he needs help as I currently have a busy schedule but if there is anything I can do to help I will. With so many experienced and perhaps retired supporters out there please God let there be someone who can help to avoid an otherwise distressing solution. We will keep him in our prayers. I have just taken a call from the distraught owner of Ares.
Sadly family circumstances have changed a lot over the past couple of years which has created him to become increasingly anxious. He is being returned tomorrow and I am desperate to find this boy a foster home straight away to avoid him staying in kennels. If you think you can help, please call the kennels on 0121 782 7702.

Everything has been tried by his owner and the vet suggested all different things but that maybe the kindest thing would be to PTS if we were unable to help..... His owner was understandably very upset and is desperate for us to help.
Please if you have space.... he is a gorgeous gentle boy.

He would suit a home where he can either have the company of a human or another dog. He is great with other dogs particularly medium to large breeds however he is not cat friendly. He is extremely clean in the house, good on the lead and excellent with children.

Just a little update on our dear Ares: he is now a proper family member. SO clever. He learns new commends within a few repeats and he remembers them. I have never seen such a bright dog!! He has allowed himself onto every sofa in the house but knows he must stay away from our bed:) He does bark at me (Anna) sometimes when I am in bed and he wants a cuddle, but only when Martin is not around (he wouldn't dare to bark or moan with my husband present)... so off I go to the sofa with my duvet and we cuddle for a while:) He is such a laugh. The other day he spotted a hedgehog in the garden. We thought he would approach it with care and just perhaps bark, like dogs do.... He didn't think twice.. he got the hedgehog in his mouth within a fraction of a second, no matter the pain, and stood with the poor little animal not sure what to do next:) Luckily as we saw it we rescued a poor hedgehog, but I don't think our dog learnt a lesson:)

Ares is a fantastic dog. He settled in without any problem. He is so inteligent and we feel blessed having him in. He brought so much happiness and joy into our house. As a couple we get on better since Ares came to us and brought his unconditional love. We have set a strict routine so he knew after a few days what to expect and when and that made him adapt to our household really swiftly. He never even once toileted at home as we followed Ruth's advice to cheer him and reward when he wees outside. He is ok on his own and doesn't cry as he knows we will always come back. Really, we could have not dreamt of a better companion than Ares!!!! xxx
