Snip is 12 years old today and still running around like a youngster….when she’s not asleep that is! Her ears don’t flop over her forehead any more but she holds them straight up instead and they look like diamonds. Still beautiful and hugely loved xxx

Sadly I have to report that the cat trial week didn't go well. Snip got better and learnt not to look at the cat when she was in the room but unfortunately, the cat got less and less happy and moved into the garage and stopped eating. She apparently was also howling when on her own in the house. So despite loving her loads, my friends have had to say no to having her. HOWEVER, Paul and I have decided she can't go to yet another family and needs stability so have decided to join the FFC and we're keeping her. But we're DEFINITELY stopping at 4!

Much as we would love to adopt Snip and join the FFC, I need to put the record straight and say that we aren't keeping her long-term, but continuing to foster her while she is cat-detrained. A friend and neighbour is hoping to adopt her (which is so great for us as the little sweetheart will be so close by!), but currently Snip is far too "interested" in their cat so is having daily deconditioning lessons. Hopefully in the not-too-distant future she will have her new permanent forever home! Rosie and Paul xx

Congratulations little Snip. I am so very happy that your foster mom and dad have decided to keep you and I hope you all have many, many, many happy years together. As a failed foster carer myself (many times over and not only for greyhounds!) I know exactly how your mom and dad feel by not wanting to lose all of the love you will give them. Good luck for your future Snip, you have my cuddle again today and big sloppy kisses again from Davey, Flynn, Millie, Nell and Pip and, of course, me !!! Terry XXXXXX

I agree with all the comments however I chose from the photo, discussions via email and a walk with him when I visited the kennel, it just felt right. I was an experienced dog owner although I had never had a greyhound but I went into greyhound ownership with my eyes wide open and was prepared to put time and effort in. I am not criticising any of those owners who have had to return dogs I'm sure it was not a decision lightly made, however these dogs are not used to homes and have a steep learning curve, I guess what I trying to say is you have to put the effort in but the rewards are fantastic and I feel that sometimes we expect too much of them too soon.

Hi muddypaws - I totally agree - it is extremely hard to tell from a photo about the nature of the dog. However, with the comments and assessment of the dogs in our care (and our foster homes) we can generally advise people if we think the greyhound will suit the home. Even with people coming along to meet their dog, we still have people return them so it is a hard one! I myself chose one from a photo and description - she was a 14 year old greyhound from Stoke and she was very difficult to start with but we got through with a lot of time and patience. The most important thing is commitment to help them settle and adjust to a new life and new circumstances and making sure it is the right thing for the dog and the family.

Sad to hear darling Snip is back...l hope she is ok. Unfortunately this comes as no great surprise to me...it just reiterates the point l wad making the other day!!! Prospective owners need to meet the dog and if possible get to know them a little.Choosing a dog from a website photo very rarely works out !! Please could we try and keep them closer to home so interested parties can visit kennels and meet them. l know good homes are hard to find and l don't know the circumstances behind Snips return, but we have been lucky so far that Snip...Poppy and Bandit have all come home safely, thankfully, but the next owner, when it does'nt work out, may not bother to return them ! This is not meant in any way as a critisism ,but better to be safe rather than sorry. Snip gets my cuddle today...and don't worry sweetheart...your forever home is just around the corner.XXX

Oh little Snip, I am so very sorry you have been returned and I am sure that it was not your fault. I met you at the kennels and you are a truly beautiful little girl (and Muddy Paws thought so too). If I was able to have another 'fix' for my greyhound addiction, it would be you but as there are already 5 (yes five) living at The Greys House, it is somewhat full already ! I hope that you find your 'forever home' soon and I know that you will give so much love and joy to your new mom and dad (whoever they may be). While you wait, I am sure you will receive the best care, attention and kisses from the hard working volunteers at the Kennels - I have sent my cuddle to you today. Good luck little girl and lots of sloppy kissess from Davey, Flynn, Millie, Nell and Pip. XXXXX and an extra sloppy one from me ! X !

Please Note : FFP club membership is not limited providing applicants can meet the following strict criteria : 1. You must love Greyhounds more than life itself ( or even the Spouse ! ) 2. You must be able to provide suitable luxury accommodation ( our greys are very choosy ) 3. You must be totally gullible ( or at least a soft touch ! ) 4. You must have the patience of a Saint. 5.You must be reasonably fit ( Yum-Yum Walkies !!) 6. You must have eyes in the back of your head ! and finally 7. You must not be too obsessively houseproud....Oh..forgot... 8.You must be able to THINK like a Greyhound...don't let those big eyes and cute face fool you !!!! So there you have it......SIMPLES !!! If you are still interested in Fostering ( lf you've just said yes...you may need to seek urgent treatment ) why not give Ruth or Kate a call at the kennels...who knows...you might end up being in the club too !!!!!!!!!!! X.

Hi Rosie P. The Failed Foster Parents Club is a very exclusive club for all of us poor, misguided , deluded ,weak-willed humans who believe that we can foster a greyhound and not fall in love with , and thus end up re-homing said dog !!! Sadly...most of our members are in denial , and will never admit that emotions played any part in their decision...but it just made sense from a practical point of view !!! Well... that's my excuse...and I'm sticking to it !! X.

Hi Tinker's nan - you are right in your advice that a coat will usually solve the problem. Over the few weeks Snip has been on trial she stopped weeing but was just having a poo at night. This was not happening during the day.

My advice would be to anyone looking at taking her would be definitely coat at night, keep feeding the Burns and don't give tinned meat for an evening meal. She was always clean in her kennel at Daybreaks overnight and was clean at mine when she stopped so I am sure this could be easily solved. She is the sweetest girl and I am sure someone will fall in love with her very soon. x
