Thank you all, it’s been a hard couple of days and these comments have helped.
We were truly lucky to have been Toms owners, he was the sweetest, most well behaved and gentle dog and everyone who met him fell in love with him. RIP our TomTom xxx

tomgrey. All us hound lovers know the terrible pain in our heart when we have to say goodbye to our faithful Greys who rely on us to send them peacefully over the bridge when the time comes to run joyously free with the wind yet again in their ears. At times that pain seems unbearable, but you have given them the greatest gift of all, to leave this earth as a beloved pet to live on in your heart forever. Some never have that. This is how I cope and why I keep re-homing RIP Tom xx

Thank you everyone xx

PamD he had lymphoma or possibly a rare thing called Langerhans cell histiocytosis, we didn’t actually get a diagnosis but he had a lot of lumps on his skin and then in the last week was vomiting and lost lots of weight. Am glad he didn’t seem to suffer too much though and it was the right thing to do today xxxx

Hi Tomgrey. I'd try speaking with some of the local walkers to see if they have had the same problem. We have a really scarey cat who lives on The Green in Castle Bromwich. I was hoping you were local so I could help you but Kate said you are Acocks Green. Some of us have been worried enough to carry flingers as a defense. One friend was using a walking stick. I thought people were exagerating till I saw it myself. It came after us & didn't seem scared by the flinger I was waiving around like a bloody great sherlaley. I've been told it's attacked before & raked its claws & the owners are not bothering. Thats why I think someone will know more about this cat because so many local walkers by me know about ours. Maybe someones filmed it attacking before or being aggresive. Hope you can find some proof xx

Hi all, thanks for comments and advice, we will contact the legal team for advice tomorrow. Feel a bit better after popping in to the kennels today to talk about it.
We know tom isn't dangerous and feel we can prove that if we ever need to.
Will let you know if there are any developments, hopefully the cats owners will call down and realise that tom would not have the injuries he's got if he had attacked the cat first!

Hi Tom grey

Tom is our Maisie's litter brother and I am gutted for you all. What an unusual set of circumstances. I suggest that if you have any more trouble get in touch with our Head Office who will advise you. They have a legal team behind them too. If you want to give me a ring you will find my number somewhere on our events pages.

I have taken photographs of toms injuries. I did tell the owner that he was wrong to kick our dog and he said "what did you expect"!!!
He also said I couldn'the control the dog and he should be muzzled. I haven'told the police,,I was very surprised when they came round tonight as I really thought that their cat was okay bug they said he has got a puncture wound and is on a drip. As far as I know I'm the only person who saw it happen from the start and all the neighbours who came out are definitely of the opinion tom is a dangerous dog. I will have to wait and see if anything comes of it but I know what happened. If tom had attacked the cat whilst on the lead I wouldhave paid the vets bill but he was the victim although it sounds like the cat came out of it worse off.

Get statements from all who came out to help you as well this would be a good idea.

Firstly and most importantly, how is Tom now? Surely this is 6 of one and half a dozen of the other as you've both had to visit the vets and pay for treatment following this very unfortunate incident. Instinct kicks in when you're under attack but this doesn't make Tom a dangerous dog. Sounds like the cat owner is just letting off steam and I would be firmly pointing out that he is the 'dangerous one' for kicking at your lovely boy. Rightly or wrongly, the cat owner would have felt the full force of my boot had he kicked (or attempted to kick) either of mine. Can you speak to any of the people who came running out when the incident occurred? It shakes everyone up when something like this happens. Do contact the police to report the incident and get the incident number. Tell the police that the owner kicked out at Tom. Take photos of the injuries that Tom has sustained and keep all the paperwork you have relating to his visit to the vet. You witnessed this attack but did the cats' owner? Has the cat attacked other dogs before? Please keep us informed what if anything happens. Tash x

Hi - i have never been in this situation but as a precaution i would take photographs of Tom as well as his mouth showing that he has not grabbed at anything and report the incident to the police yourself. Also any statements or reports from your own vet will be useful. Am sure others will have good advice but just aware that it is best to report any potential incidents in case of repercussions.

Hi just need some advice if anyone can help.
On Wednesday I walked tom and we came across a cat. Tom was on the lead and was not showing any interest in the cat but the cat jumped off the wall and came after him and attacked him and jumped at his face!!!
I couldn't get the cat off and people came running out of the houses as I was screaming and the cats owner started kicking at tom even after the cat ran off.
I took tom home and went back to the house the man told me the cats mouth was bleedingso he was taking it to the vets. I thought that would be due to where the cat had attached itself to toms neck and proceeded to cause two deep puncture wounds for which the vet has prescribed antibiotics.
Anyway tonight the cats owners have been around saying tom nearly killed the cat and they will report us for having a dangerous dog and that we should pay their vets bill!

Where do we stand? Tom has not shown aggression before,he was on the lead and this crazy cat genuinely came after tom and attacked him. I am really worried about what will happen.has anyone been in this position before?

Our three houndies have been going on their holidays to Bark Inn kennels for the past four years and we can recommendd them. Our three are well cared for there, well fed and come back home with no problems.

Michelle and the team certainly care for the greyhounds that are on holidays are waiting for a loving home.

Yes they have moved to Aldridge way now.

Hi tomgrey. Most people speak very highly of Bark Inn kennels. We have never had the need to use them ourselves...but l think that they board only greys...so very experienced with the breed. l think you will find their details somewhere on this website. X.

Hi Tomgrey. I used the Bark Inn kennels a couple of years ago. I found them quite good. They are based at Baddesley Ensor. Their number is 07828 609201.email is barkinnkennels@hotmail.co.uk. They generally will only board greys but will also take a non grey if it is a living with of a grey.

Hi!

Tom is fully settled in now and knows all of the local cats, though not sure how friendly he would be if he got up close.

He has really come out of his shell and is now the boss of the house!

We are looking to go away for a night or two next week but won't be able to take Tom with us. Would anyone be able to recommend a good kennels for greyhounds?

Thanks!

Hi all, just an update on tom. Its been just over four weeks and the difference in him since week one is amazing! He seems very settled and I think he is happy. Its lovely to see him have fun and explore the garden, when we first used to let him out he wouldn't leave our side. He is so laid
back and gentle and we really enjoy having him around.

What an absolute pleasure it was for me to walk with you today Tom. You are such a gentle beautiful boy and rather than jumping up at me, you moved backwards (away from the door) as I opened your kennel to put your lead on before we went for our stroll. You are a little gem and the pleasure was mine as we headed along the A45. I'm so glad I got chance to say 'bye' as you lay in the back of your lucky owners car, ready to be taken to your new home. Be very, very happy Tom. Tx

We have had Tom's litter sister Maisie for 3 weeks and she is a delight to have around the house. She is very gentle and trustworthy, house clean and has just learned to play with her toys. She is great with our other greyhound Monty in fact she surprises him by giving him a lick now and again. By the comments here it looks like Tom will be the same

This boy is so funny we had to lift him off his bed this morning so he could go for a walk.Once outside he enjoyed a lovely stroll in the sunshine, perfect on the lead and he enjoyed the company of the other greys and my lurcher. He has a graying muzzle that makes him look a little older than he is.He has that distinguished look about him a bit of a gentle giant who should make a lovely pet.
