From Prince - I am settling in really well into my forever home. Every day I get told what a good boy I am and that I learn really quickly. I don't really hang around the kitchen any more because I know I will get a nice treat after tea anyway. I love my walks and have had a few runs off the lead. I've been to three training classes with Sally and I am relaxing more now and am making more doggie friends. I did bark a bit at first but now when I am good I get sausage treats. I had to share my things and my mom and dad with a foster doggie called Barbie a couple of weeks ago; I suppose it was quite fun and we did lots of things together. I hear she is coming again tomorrow for the weekend so I had better make sure I've licked all the fillings out of the bones and decide where I want to sleep before she gets here. A special hello to Joyce. I liked her a lot cos she helped me get where I am today and I am very happy. Lick Lick xx

From Prince - I have had a great week. I went on the walk in Kingsbury Water Park and everyone knew I was there because I was so excited and was getting bored just waiting so I barked to let them know I was raring to go and we got a sausage at the end. I stood with my nose on the raffle table to make sure I didn't miss anything and I got lots of fuss from everyone. I have been off my lead four times now and I always run to my mom cos she has got some nice treats in her bag for me. I have heard them saying I am going training on Monday, hope I will get more snax for being a good boy there too. I will let you know what I think about it next week x

Prince here. I have been so busy since I came to live with Cheryl and Laurie. I have been on my best behaviour and apart from being tempted by their dinners and snacks (I have only managed to grab the bacon so far ha ha) I have been brilliant. I found some great places to wee in the garden and have asked to go out and I've slept all through the night both nights. I have met a few other doggies and some cats and I have just had a look and not really reacted. We had a nice time in the back garden today because the sun has been out and I've even learned if I am alert to the whistle I can get a treat out of them. If anyone wants to see my photos this is a link https://www.facebook.com/cherly.ratcliffe/media_set?set=a.10152376619711149.1073741884.710311148&type=3 Lots of love to all my friends at Daybreaks and thanks to everyone who has helped me get to my forever home. Big special lick for Joyce x

He is coming along so well, we didn't make the park yesterday but we still had a lovely walk down the lane and he was so well behaved even when the farms labs came rushing out to bark at the gates. I love Prince so much and urge anyone looking to rehome a grey at the moment to consider Prince, he is one of the most loving, beautiful big boys I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I can not wait till the weekend so I can go and do some more training with him!!

Brian and I went with Prince to Brueton Park yesterday, to help with the ongoing Tony Knight training given by Joyce. Before leaving the kennels we had some training from Ruth on 'stop, starting.' This proved invaluable. Prince was AMAZING! His training with Joyce is obviously working well. To begin with he jumped straight into the car and lay down quietly for the journey. On arrival at the park he was naturally excited by all the sights and sounds, but was soon walking beautifully by my side, responding to his name and the stop, start training. It was an absolute pleasure to see how quickly this gorgeous, intelligent boy understood what was wanted of him. He was such a pleasure to be with. Before we left the park, the three of us sat in the open boot for a while, calmly watching the world go by - a perfect afternoon. As Lady Victoria has said Prince is very happy in the kitchen run. He is now sharing the space with Duchess and Honey with no problems whatsoever. I believe that whoever homes this lovely boy will reaps the rewards of a loving, loyal companion. xx

I love this boy so much!! I worked with Prince during the Tony Knight training course last weekend and I took him for a little trip to the park yesterday to continue our training, I have to say the change in him from the start of the training to now is simply amazing!! At the start of the training course he was quite keen but yesterday it was like walking a different dog. No pulling on the lead, no barking at other dogs, at one point a squirrel was directly in front of us but that didn’t faze the gorgeous Prince he simply walked with me once I’d changed direction (Tony Knight training tip, stop, start, change direction!) We encountered many different breeds on our walk yesterday, some very small and fluffy; Prince simply walked the other way with me or passed the other dogs with no issues. He really is picking up the training very quickly. I will continue taking Prince to the park for little day trips and to progress with his training until he finds his forever home. He really is the most gorgeous loving boy and I am certain he will make a family very very happy!!

Prince I'm so happy that you had a lovely time in Elmdon Park, it is nice for you to get out from the kennels for a while. Well done for remembering your training and being a good boy, I really hoped it would help you because you are so lovely and need a home of your own now. Keep up the good work my big boy, sending you some special cuddles. xx

Prince had a great time at Elmdon Park with Joyce, one of our volunteers, on Sunday (the three new photos show his trip!). With the help of the Tony Knight training course that Joyce and Prince attended last weekend, he is already making massive steps in change of his behaviour. He was really good meeting the ducks and several other breeds of dogs with no lunging and pulling. We have noticed his behaviour change at the kennels and he has been much quieter this weekend. If you would consider giving Prince a home, Joyce will happily help you with his handling and training..... he really is a fabulous, loving, handsome boy......

I feel a bit sad for Prince - in the kennels he really doesn't show himself at his best at all, he is very vocal and it can be quite off putting. However, yesterday I discovered that some of his barking is simply his way of saying "I need to come out for a wee please as I don't want to mess up my kennel!" Other times I think he just feels the need to be close to somebody as when I went in to lead him up for his walks, he stands beautifully still & quiet while you put on his lead and muzzle -quite one of the easiest to get ready for a walk, and he looks right at you. Silly as it may sound I feel this big boy just needs a bit of self confidence so he will feel a bit happier with the world around him and will relax a bit. Hope he manages to get to training as this will really help him. A special cuddle for a lovely boy. xx

Prince attended the recent training sessions with Tony Knight and responded really well. It would be great if he could carry on with his training and go along to Julie's Saturday morning classes. If anyone is interested in taking him please give the kennels a call. Prince has been at Daybreaks for some time now, I am sure some extra training would help him to find his forever home. Xxx

Sadly Prince is back at the kennels. On trial he was found to pull quite a lot on the lead and with him being a big fella, he was difficult to handle.

Apart from this he learnt a lot in a week - around food he became more settled, was clean apart from a couple of initial accidents, he loves to play with toys and can catch biscuits! He was great and very friendly with visitors and would settle on the settee at night for a cuddle!

When one of our dogs retired and came home he was very reactive to other dogs, particularly spaniels (i think it was the ears :-S) I never thought he'd be able to be off lead so bought a separate fishtail collar and long (lunge) lead. With this he was able to meander in the woods and take in the smells etc with my other two greys. It also came in handy for his socialisation with other dogs as he could interact with them (muzzle on) but with me still in control. Fast forward 12 months and he is running free off lead and has a whole bunch of friends including cockers and king charles! Time (to settle in and get used to all that's new), Confidence (in him and yourself) and perseverance are all that's needed. As an experienced dog owner already, I'm sure you'll have it licked! Lol. I'd offer you the long lead but G'hound no.5 has just retired and although a big boy at 40 kilos he's terrified of children! Any tips on how to combat this will be much appreciated! Lol x Good luck with Prince, I'm sure your Bunny will teach him some manners Xx

Mixed day so far. A very good night's sleep, Prince slept through. Gets bored very easily at the moment and needs toys or us to occupy him most of the time.
Struggled on the walk when meeting a couple (of well behaved and on leads) Jack Russells.

Saw a squirrel!
Out walking on the golf course when a squirrel ran across the fairway. Bunny raced after it but Prince, muzzled and on a lead, could only look on. He was very interested but didn't get too excited. No barking - the squirrel out witted Bunny and lives to fight another day.

Met the handsome 'Prince' at Stratford Awareness at Pet's Corner today. This gorgeous boy loves a cuddle and a 'lean'. He and Peanut received plenty of attention from the shoppers who appeared, much to Prince's amazement, through the sliding doors of Waitrose! After a hard day's work promoting his noble breed he seemed happy on his return to Daybreaks and ready for a well-earned dinner and a snooze. Well done Prince. X
