Morning, Dutchess’s cancer was too far gone and although she has been responding well to her treatment, last night she took a really bad turn and we said goodbye to her in the early hours of this morning. We were blessed in the fact that the vet let us stay with her. She’s in a better place now with no pain. It's so sad to loose a pet but we had nearly 6 wonderful years with her and will never forget her.

Hello Daybreak Family,

When my mom and dad go on holiday we usually stay with Pete, Jo and their greyhound, Max. Unfortunately, Pete is retiring the end of this year which means that my mom and dad cannot go on holiday because there is no one to look after me and Susie.

Please can anyone recommend anywhere where we can stay so my mom and dad can book a holiday for 2021? We are really good greyhounds - honestly :-)

We have our vaccination all up to date and all we ask is that you are kind to us and you have a garden for us to run around.

If anyone knows anywhere, please call my mom on 07967708393 anyday after 1pm so she can come and have a home visit after lockdown.

Mom and dad went out on Sunday – without me, how dare they. When they came back, they brought Susie back with them. I was so happy. I first met Susie in the run at Daybreaks. We played for some time and she’s camouflaged in the sand.

She’s lovely but very nervous. I’ve shown her round our garden and pointed out where the squirrels cross the fence. I’ve taken her for walks over Newhall Valley and over time I’ll teach her not to hide when people come up to her.

After deep consideration, I’ve told my mom that Susie can stay with us. She will love it here. You go on some wonderful walks, have some fab holidays, have the occasional treat when you’re good and it’s nice and quiet.

I’m so happy Susie like us. Welcome to your new home Susie.

My big brother, Jazz, went to heaven earlier this week. I will miss sooo much. He was such a good brother and always played with me. When he wasn’t very well, he let me finish his dinner without mom and dad looking J I went to the Lake District with him over New Year and had a fabulous time. We were soon to go to Cornwall and he told me all about the beach and how good it was early in the morning with no one around.

If it wasn’t for Jazz I wouldn’t be in such a wonderful home. He didn’t go grumpy when I used to steal his bed or push past him to get to the fire. He was so tall that if I needed to get past him I would sometimes walk under him rather than round him. Once I was walking under him and I saw a cat so I stood tall and Jazz’s back legs were dangling in mid-air – he never battered an eyelid. He was so clam and placid.

My mom and dad are giving me loads of fuss and tell me that he has gone to a happy place. I love you Jazz and always will x x x x x

Steve, Kris & Jazz would like to thank everyone for looking after Duchess before she came to live with us. Jazz loves his new sister and they get on really well - whatever did we do with only one grey for so long.

We would like to give special thanks to Ruth for recommending Duchess - you listened to what we said and she is giving Jazz heaps of confidence. He follows her around like a shadow and it's lovely to see them play together in the garden.

Special thanks also goes out to Caroline who fostered Duchess and looked after her so well. We will keep in contact and let you know how Duchess is getting on.

Duchess now has cuddles every day and along with Jazz brings us so much enjoyment in our lives.

There's not a day goes by when I don't suggest to my husband we have a companion for our beautiful Willow. He just won't give in.
I will not be deterred and I keep chipping away. I look longingly every day at the website. He calls it 'obsessed' - ha ha - I say 'possibly' but it's always a feast for the eyes.

However I've been trying for several years to have more than one greyhound with no success, so nobody hold your breath!!

Dutchess is really a very sweet girl, i have had no problems with her at all, lovely chilled girl, clean in the house, loves to go on a walk, will stand all day to be groomed, gets on well with my 2 greys, shes just a dream to have around. Hope she finds her new family very soon xxxx

Poor Dutchess, was straved last friday to go to the vets to have her teeth out, she had her pre-med so she would be calm. Poor little girl didnt have her teeth out after all that , vets had an emergency come in, have booked in again for this friday. such a stressful time for her and me, she was so good, bless her xxxx

I have had D for a week , she has been the most perfect little girl you could ask for. loves her cuddles, great on the lead, clean in the house,, and i have been leaving her in the day time with my 2 Greys shes been fine. shes such a loveable little girl wanting a home of her own. (still not heard her bark LOL) xx

We met The Dutchess today, she's a real stunner, and lovely diva nature, loves a treat. I've put some photos and video on Perry Barr Facebook page. Caroline will soon work her magic on her :) xx

Dutchess is a beautiful girl who was so eager for her walk she had to keep reminding us to get her lead on so she could go out this morning. As soon as her lead went on, she waited patiently to be taken out and was as good as gold on her walk. She is also an affectionate girl and not particularly big. She certainly has plenty of energy. Duchess is a very friendly girl,she was in the run today with Biscuit and Lulu,she seems to enjoy the company of other Dogs, she was very affectionate with all of us including our 9 year old son,hopefully Duchess- your comfy sofa is just around the Corner xxxxxxx

I took this gorgeous girl home with me last night as she had been quite stressed in the kennel and barking a lot even though she was sharing with Lulu and Podge. She was fabulous with my 6 greys, ate well and settled for the evening. Unfortunately she was quite stressed during the night but she was in a strange place so it was quite understandable. She enjoyed her walk this morning and I brought her back to the kennels with me. She has had a very settled day (I think she is worn out... and so am I ha ha!)

So glad you had a lovely morning out with Uncle Norman sweetheart. You are a very friendly, fussy little girl and we all hope you find your new forever sofa very soon. xxx

Duchess has today spent 4 hours at the Melbicks Awareness Day.
She behaved perfectly with everyone she met. Adults and children as young as 12 months old were greeted with perfect manners througbout the day.
She also met many non greyhounds without any problems whatsoever.
Strangely when she met her fellow greys she did give off a warning growl but within 5 minutes was mixing with them without any problem at all. Anyone meeting her for the first time with a greyhound please do not be put off by her initial reaction as it is just a show. She is kenneled at Daybreaks unmuzzled with Podge so there is no doubt that she could live with other greys or non greys without any long term problems.

It was nice to meet you today at Melbicks with Norman. You were a very good girl and after a little nervous start you soon settled down. We are sure you enjoyed your day out meeting the people and children.You met some other dogs too who weren't greyhounds,this wasn't a problem at all and you liked your sausages too. We hope it won't be too long before we meet you again as a pet dog as you are a little beauty xx

We took Duchess along to the Mell Square roadshow this afternoon. She is such a lovely little girl and was amazing with everyone who came to meet her. She was very gentle with everyone and was quite happy greeting everyone, rather than sitting down. In fact, it was quite difficult handing her back! Hope she gets a home soon, she's very special. Mand x

Although Duchess has only been at Daybreaks for 5 days she has today been to her first awareness show at Melbicks.
She is a friendly girl who loves affection from everyone she meets a nd behaved perfectly with both adults and children.
On first meeting a new dog (greyhound or non greyhound) she is slightly territorial which can be shown by giving a slight growl.This however seems to last for only a short period as she settled well after the initial meeting with Henry and Lady who were at the show with her.
She also shares a kennel without any problems with Andy so I am sure that if caution is shown on a first meeting with other dogs there will be no problems whatsoever.

My goodness, you barely made it inside the kennel gate!! Well done little girl.x
