Thank you for all of the best wishes we've received. Sadly Amber had developed a severe back problem which, despite the best efforts of our vets, couldn't be fixed. She deteriorated to the point she couldn't walk very far and we had to take the hardest decision to say goodbye. We loved you so much, you were bright and cheeky, a huge personality. A star at awareness roadshows, people loved you - plenty wanted to offer you a home and we were proud to say you were ours. At Stratford races you were pleased to be centre of attention and racegoers came for cuddles and some took selfies of themselves with you (for a small fee for Daybreaks, of course). Yes, you couldn't stand other dogs (other than Casper and Finn) and would be quick to let them know, but you were our sunshine in these dark days, with a unique smile from your overshot jaw, and we will miss you so much.

Deeply sorry to read that Amber has gained her wings, thinking of you all at this sad time xxxxx

Amber would like to thank everyone at Daybreaks for their support and understanding. After all, this is a lady who knows her own mind - and is very selective of her friends! Finn has met her extremely high standards (a club of only two - him and Casper) and she is happy to be showing Finn the ropes. Finn worked too hard in the first few days to fit in (separation anxiety) but Amber led by example and with her help (and a lucky thunder shirt - thanks Kate!) he no longer demolishes the stair gate to try to find us at night and is now a very much more relaxed boy. In fact, we think the fur is starting to come back on his legs and he gives us the most wonderful welcome in a morning, with an extremely waggy tail. He is now very much part of the family. We are looking for a new friend for Amber after losing Casper before Christmas. She is very sad on her own. Today was our first visit and Amber would like to apologise to Drew, Blue, Ed and Paddy for her behaviour. Thanks Kate and team for your help and understanding. We'll keep trying!

So far so good! Bernie (now Amber) seems to be settling well. Loves her walks, people - she's met all the neighbours already - and her and Casper are getting on ok. There's been the odd grumble but they shared a bed this evening! She likes to collect shoes in her bed and take washing off the radiator and can climb the stairs, although coming down them is a problem. Casper has never tried the stairs so she's certainly more adventurous. She is also fascinated by the television but not keen on the hairdryer, which Casper loves (he likes the hot air blowing in his face!) They are very different personalities and it is lovely to see Amber getting to grips with her new surroundings. This is the first time we've ever had two greyhounds - fingers crossed they continue to enjoy each others company as much as we appreciate theirs.

So glad I got some Bernie cuddles yesterday, 'cos you've now gone! Well done my pretty girl, hope everything works out for you.x
