Paul and I are so sad to say that Rigsby went over rainbow bridge this morning. We were on holiday in Scotland last week when he collapsed and he didn’t pick up again. A local vet there gave him steroid tablets which helped him until we could get home and we took him to our vet this morning. He would have been 14 in 2 weeks. He was a lovely gentle boy with a naughty side who loved to shred paper and bags if he got bored, and in his mind, being called to wait when out on a walk meant go faster. He was our second failed foster and we’ve never regretted keeping him and will miss him and his roaching forever. Love you Rigsby xxxxxxxx

Our lovely boy Rigsby is 11 today. He’s had a poorly tummy this week so can’t have birthday treats till that’s all better but then he’ll have lots of sossidges to make up for it (though he’ll have to share some with Hope and Snip!).

The Pet Blood Bank visited the kennels today...Rigsby came in to donate. He looks absolutely wonderful and was a very happy lad. He was accompanied by his lovely sister Hope. Xxx

This is EXCELLENT news, I am so pleased for Riksby (Risky) to have finally found his forever sofa. He was in the kennel to long and sound like he is settling in brilliantly WELL DONE.

Crikey!!! So many messages already! I think I can only have opened my mouth to tell Ruth that we'd decided to adopt Risky and she must have ESP'd the sign to turn green! We have fallen in love with his playful and loving nature, him barking at his reflection in the window, and watching dogs on TV. We've changed his name to Rigsby and he's now a member of the family of 3 black greys and one white and black. And we're definitely stopping at 4 again!

A bit more info about how Riksy is showing his lovely character. He hasn't been frightened by anything - children playing and shouting, footballs being kicked, planes flying overhead and trains going over bridges (the latter two he was interested and looked but then accepted it and carried on). He is also very interested in our cats upstairs so would probably not be defined as cat friendly! We have had to put chewable items such as shoes and tv remotes out of his way and then he is perfectly happy with toys instead. He really is a lovely boy, loving and funny, and we so want him to go to his perfect home. Please someone, share your home with this sweetheart xx

Fostering update......Risky (or Riksy as we are currently calling him so people don't worry about his name) is really showing his lovely character now he's been with us for a couple of weeks. He loves playing with toys, is very inquisitive, likes collecting various things together but is learning the meaning of the word "leave" quite well! He is a very bright boy and is getting better all the time when he meets other dogs on his walks. We would really love someone to give him his forever sofa so that we can then foster other dogs and give them a taste of home life too.

Risky is doing really well in his foster home. He is a lovely boy and likes a good lean and is already reaching! He has asked me to have his age changed on this page though - he says he is only 5 1/2 and won't be 6 till October so will someone please correct this and stop ageing him!!

Come on people I have seen this boy do the monthly Stratford walk which is over an hours walking and his wobbly leg in no way causes him any issues. Please don't overlook him I can only echo what Alan and Pam have put none of us are perfect! This boy more than deserves his own sofa.

Just like our Paddy,poor Risky has sadly been overlooked for far too long...Paddy with his half an ear! and Risky with his slightly wobbly leg - well hey! none of us are perfect yet Pad has been the easiest of our greys to settle,is a fun loving cheeky boy,loves his sisfur hound Ele and very much loved as part of our family since December.

Many thanks to everyone who came to this months Stratford Walk and special thanks to all the moms who gave up their Mothers Day morning to join the 50 dogs who were there today.
Risky together with fellow Daybreaks dogs Kin and Henry enjoyed the walk along the River Avon into Stratford where such a large gathering of greyhounds created much interest with the many visitors enjoying their day out in Stratford.
The walk of approx 3 miles was no problem whatsoever to Risky who was as full of energy at the end of the walk as at the start. His broken hock which caused his racing retirement is obviously no problem whatsoever to him now.
As has been said many times before he is a very loving affectionate dog who would have no problems living in a home with other greyhounds. Risky came to Daybreaks in November and is now our longest resident. If there is anyone thinking of adding to their greyhound family please give consideration to this loving affectionate boy.

Lovely Risky has gone on the Stratford walk with Norman. Lets hope this may get him his forever home. x

We have a disabled lady in a wheelchair who now comes along to the kennels with her carer each Friday afternoon to spend a little time with our beautiful boys & girls. Last week she groomed Risky, and this week when she arrived she asked for him again. I brought him out to her in the outside run and he stood beautifully - calm and still next to her while she brushed him and gave him a little massage with some Aloe Vera, his eyes were closing as he lapped up the contact and interaction. I love this boy and really hope that he doesn't have to wait much longer for his own sofa. Big cuddles my precious boy. xxxxx

I can only agree with TJ, we first fostered Sheena & then rehomed her with a shattered front leg, not a racing accident, but she walks well and would race if she could. Risky is special and needs a loving home.

Please don't be put off by this gorgeous boys hock injury. We've had Brae living with us now for almost 7 weeks and her broken hock & subsequent limp (when walking but not trotting) haven't slowed her down one bit. We were looking out for Risky this morning to go and say hello but I had a feeling he may have gone for a day out. I hope he wowed everyone in Sutton as he is a lovely boy. One thing has come to me and that is given his broken hock injury that's left him with his limp which can't really be disguised, I'm just wondering if Risky is really a great name.... I know it's from his racing name, but I'm just wondering if hearing his name and seeing his special walk maybe doesn't help??? I may be far wide of the mark and feel free to ignore me but maybe try 'Ricky'??'. Apologies if it sounds stupid, but I just wonder if it might help as he is a lovely boy and I've seen him on a couple of walks getting a lot further than our Ben did when we first had him from Hall Green 5 years ago. I'm sure all will work out for Risky one way or another, whatever he's called. His family just haven't found him yet.

Today we took the beautiful Risky to the Sutton Park Walk and he was an absolute delight! He travelled well in the car with Dingo and Polly and although quite stressed had a good look around our house. He walked well on his lead and although curious with other breeds of dog he was easy to distract. Please someone consider giving this boy a chance of his own family to love. Xxx

Thanks Stormin for taking the lovely Risky out for the morning, and it's a good sign that after an initial reaction to small furries he started to respond and get more used to them. The outside world is a strange place for our boys & girls until they get out and about in it and learn all about the other creatures that live in it, so that's a good start for Risky. Risky has today made his first appearence on a roadshow at Stratford Pets at Home. Having probably never seen tiny white furries before in his life he obviously reacted at first very excitedly(sorry Sue about the broken cup knocked off the merchandise table!!!).
However after 3 hours meeting and greeting people in a wonderful affectionate way he was beginning to understand that there are other dogs in the world other than greyhounds and was behaving in a much more sensible way towards them.
He is a very affectionate loving dog who with an owner who understands he is still learning about other breeds will find Daybreaks current longest resident a wonderful companion.

I peeked into Risky's kennel this afternoon to find him lying upside down on the bed, legs in the air spread wide open showing no modesty at all!! He is such a lovely boy, and had a lovely little play when he came out to get his lead on for his walk, play bowing and picking up his muzzle in a very helpful manner! Obviously he has a bit of a cheeky side which we haven't seen much of yet, and he is such a happy, cuddly boy. Surely he won't have to wait much longer for a home to call his own. Big cuddles. xxxx

Andy walked Risky today on his first Daybreaks shift and said that he was a good friendly boy and was no bother to walk albeit not as far as some of the others due to his injury.
