Hi Morris, Jess is right unfortunately when the Greyhounds come into the kennels we don't normally receive very much information on their medical history, but we will find out what we can for you. Kate x

Florence has the same problem. I use sardines in oil and add a squirt of Yumega to her evening meal (available at Daybreaks. Don't let the price put you off it lasts ages). Works a treat. Xxx

Have you tried Dolly with sardines in tomato sauce or olive oil, we also gave our dolly goats milk, just a little drink each morning, it did help, I think they do an Aloe Vera spray at the kennels too.

Hi tiggersmum thanks for the advice
We have been taking Dolly in the car to parks separately from our other 2and standing on the door step with her letting her take in sights and sounds . She has really come out of her shell the last few days she has a mischievous personality playing with toys and taking items of sides ect. She is trying to get the other 2 to play little Alfie is scared of her and backs off Ollie growls but we instantly tell him off . They all are sniffing each other it's going to take time . Yes we are planning to bring dolly to your training classes a week on Saturday and Linda & Paul have offered to meet me outside our house with one of their grays to tempt Dolly to walk by the road . We absolutely adore her trully blessed with a lovely girl .

Hi Some of our Greys are very nervous specially because they have never ever seen a house, car headlights, street lights, other breeds :( and they can all be very very frightening. Dominance in dogs has been disproven by the scientists who first started the (stupid) theory - how can ANY dog think it's dominant over a person who controls it's food and water? Dogs like to 'get along' and will usually avoid any conflict, if they do fight it's usually because all other options have been taken away :( and they have no other option. If your other dogs are growling at Dolly you need to manage the situation so she doesn't try to run away (and escapes from your house) or feels she has to growl back which can cause conflict :( Greys are very submissive so we need to watch they aren't being bullied by other more confident dogs. Why don't you bring her to my training class on Saturday mornings, you'll meet lots of lovely Greyhounds and their owners who have usually had similar problems. Greys love other Greys so it will give Dolly more confidence and you have four free sessions anyway. I always use and recommend harnesses - I always also have a lead with a clip at both ends so I can attach it to my harness at two places. I get mine from Mekuti, Tilley Farm TTouch or Xtra Dog. Hope you can make it to class,I'd also suggest you only walk for a very short time as Dolly's obviously worried and you need to build up her confidence so very short walks even to the bottom of your path/drive andback home, lots of lovely treats as you take her or probably better take her in the car to a quiet country footpath (not where loose dogs will come up to her) and let her mooch along, sniffing and relaxing (on her own with you at first) x

Have a look at thunder shirts, they aren't only for thunder and fireworks. Our Breeze is a different girl with hers on and Jato wears it when she is stressed - when she moved in we got a calming plug in as she was nervy and to help her find her place with the other two. Xxx

Well done Dolly and Morris We are big fans of using a harness We feel they are so much safer especially with a nervous dog We learnt the hard way when our girl Ele got frightened and reversed out of her martingale collar We have used them ever since Pleased to hear it seems to help her too x x

We have Jato who is a nervy little girl , men, men with beards, bikes, wind, Children!!, that's her biggest one. But she walks far better when with the other two, they sense her stress and will close in on each side of her. We have had her 12 months but she still lies on her bed if someone she isn't sure about comes in. Time is all Dolly needs - just like Our little Jato. Xxx

Hi Morris Our girlie Ele was spooked by traffic when we first had her ..she was much better with a harness as you can keep them closer to you on a short lead and they feel more secure plus you have more control should they become scared Everything must be so scary for them when theyve never seen the post racing world :( Keep up your good work with her She will get better x x

This isn't entirely unheard of we definitely know of other greyhounds who have had similar troubles. Dolly may just need patience and reassurance to help her through this while she adjusts to her new environment. Don't forget that help is always at hand if you should need it. Linda & Paul x

We also have a black Dolly, and she was a bit nervy, she slipped her collar couple times so we invested in a harness just to be safe, might be something worth considering if you haven't already.

Dolly slept well Saturday night she didn't try to clime the stairs choosing to sleep in the hall on her bed Brian got up a few times in the night to check on her and let her out .
I was created sunday morning with lots of love and cuddles then we all went out for a lovely walk our 2 other dogs were off lesd as usual getting on with there business dolly on lesd looking around everywhere taking no notice of Alfie and Ollie darting about .
She did get scared going home with the sound of the traffic stopping at 1 point refusing to walk she needed a little reassurance and we was all back home .
Dolly is still cautious of Alfie and Ollie in the house because they have shown her a little dominance with a few growls and barking which frightened Dolly we are gently encouraging them to come together for little looks and a sniff but letting Dolly control this .
She is eating and drinking well out in the out house while Alfie and Ollie eat in the kitchen. She seems quite happy to be sleeping on her bed and welcomes lots of cuddles from us . She really is a lovely girl xxx

So far so good Dolly met our 2 other dogs Alfie & Ollie on neutral
Ground in a park Dolly wasn't interested in them and they was inquisitive
Having a sniff , Dolly was taking in all the new sights and sounds around
Her .
Once home we took her in to the back garden where she roamed and sniffed, it took her 30 mins to have her 1st wee and was praised with
Lots of good girl and a buiscit treat .
Our to boys tried to show dominance over her with a few growls and barking which frightened Dolly making her flee in to the garden a few times .
Eventually all settled down Dolly dozed on her new bed un till tea time when she got excited she gulped down her food in seconds in the out house while the 2 others at there's in the kitchen and the cat in the
Pantry . It's nearly walkies time before bed then hopefully we will all
Settle down for the evening x
Dolly settled on her new bed in the hall for a doze

Had this little sweetie at home overnight last Friday after her spay and she was wonderful. Totally chilled with our 3, paws up on the work surface in the utility as there was a tempting bone at the back (well if we will leave them within sniffing distance!) but she let it be taken off her and didn't try again once told no. She watched TV for a while, so much more relaxed with this than the week before. She is a bright little button and will learn very quickly and respond well to treats as she loves her food!

This little poppett is finding kennel life quite stressful, she was not happy yesterday so she came home with me for an overnight stay. She needed a bit of assistance into the car! but travelled beautifully.

She has one of the loudest sniffs I think I have ever heard! As you would expect from such a youngster, absolutely everything was of interest and she had to investigate anything and everything, sniffing all the time. Initially she did put her front legs up onto the work tops (all the better for getting more sniffing done, lol!!) but responded very well to a firm "no" and this morning, although the work tops were still tempting, she didn't even try to get up.

Although we live in a very quiet house, out in the country, it is right next to the railway line and initially Darcy was a bit spooked by the sound of the trains rushing past. Same with the TV, she was reluctant to come into the lounge with the TV on bless her. It must be very scary hearing loud, strange sounds and not being able to identify where they are coming from.

She slept well, we got up at 6.00am which isn't bad going considering how strange everything must have felt for her. She does love her food and virtually inhales a bowlful in record time! Hopefully as she relaxes into life she will realise there is no need to bolt her food and she will slow down a bit! She was a little interested in our meals yesterday but again does respond well to being told no.

She is so affectionate and loves to give kisses, and enjoyed a tummy rub whilst in the traditional Greyhound roaching position this morning!

She will make a lovely companion, she is young and eager to learn and just needs time to gain confidence in herself and her surroundings.

It was a pleasure to have her as an overnight guest - wishing you well sweetheart.xxx
