My beautiful princess Vera has gone off on trial to her new home. It is crazy how a certain greyhound creeps totally into your heart and it is heartbreaking but happy to send them out to a new home. And sorry, but Andy, I'm loving the fact you needed matchsticks and probably didn't grumble that much as you're so used to putting up with us women and their obsessions with making these animals happy...my husband feels your pain lol! I LOVE this little girl!!!! On arriving back from the vets, I took her home but kept her separate from Joe, Foxy and Sally as she has a history of being very grumpy with othes - even with a muzzle on, I thought it was best!

Although initially settled, when we went to bed she became quite unsettled and after an hour I gave up and went and slept on the sofa with her so Andy could get some sleep.

However, this resulted in Sally becoming unsettled - I guess with a new visitor and me being in a separate room, she couldn't understand it.

Anyway - my night was great.... 6 hours of settled sleepy cuddles with Princess Vera and this morning, although muzzled (as I don't quite trust her yet) she is less grumpy. She has been wandering around with Sally and has been told off by Foxy and didn't react!
(Andy unfortunately due to Sally being unsettled has been supplied with matchsticks to keep his eyes open today....)

I am going to keep Vera at home as I believe she will learn to live with others - hopefully giving her a better chance of finding that home we are desperate for her to have. She has been at Daybreaks since September and she has so much love to give and is a very clean girl

Am I the only one who is frightened to look at who is back from fostering? Sounds like they have all been having a lovely fun Christmas and it was great of the foster'ers to give them this chance, but I cannot help thinking about the hounds being returned (especially if they have been re-homed before) Let's hope that knowing how good they where whilst out on leave adopter's will flood in for the new year and make it a short return back to Daybreaks.
It is wonderful that Daybreaks, Ruth and its dedicated volunteers are always there to give the care these lovely dogs deserve .Happy New year to you all

What a little star you sound Vera, I loved you when we visited Daybreaks in October, I so wish you all the luck in the world in finding your sofa, just a pretty, perfect poppet !!!!!!

It was so very hard to leave this little girl behind at the kennels today. She has been an absolute dream this past 10 days and we have thoroughly enjoyed introducing her to the big, wide world. Her personality is really starting to shine now, she is a playful cheeky little monkey! She play bows, backside in the air, tail wagging like crazy, and woofs at her toy as if to say "come on then, come and play!".

She had a mad zoomies in the sand run this morning, dashing about with a squeaky ball having so much fun.

She is a clever little girl and learns very quickly - after trying to roach on our narrow sofa and nearly rolling off twice, she wisely gave up trying!!

I am sad that she couldn't be one of Daybreaks' failed fosters, but if anyone is interested in her we are more than happy to answer any questions - and hope that she will be on her way to her own home very soon - she really deserves it and will be a fabulous addition to the right family.

Sounds like Vera is doing her best to win her foster parents over. That's exactly what happened with our Ollie (Vinny). and we ended up adding him to our trio to make 4 children oops sorry hounds! Another one didn't cause any more problems and in actual fact evened things off well. We each had 2 Greys each to walk together LOL. These lovely gentle dogs try so hard to please you to find their forever home, it's very hard to resist those eyes and not give them a chance. I can see how hard it will be for fosterer's to return the Christmas lodgers, but you have to be sure what's best for you and the hound before you can commit and at least they will be able to tell prospective visitors to the kennels
all about how the dog and their habits so it will help the new owner. Well done to you all for giving the Greys a taste of what's to come in their retirement. Happy New Year to you all.

Its been another exciting day for Vera. We took advantage of the milder weather to walk up to the garden centre for morning coffee on the patio café - where Vera discovered the delights of toast!! She was a little bit wary as the wind was making strange howling sounds through the bamboo panels and blowing pots and other objects around, so she didn't lie down, cant say I blame her! Other than that she was as good as gold and took her titbits of toast very gently, as she does with all treats given to her.

She is like a sponge, absorbing each new experience and being readily reassured when something (like the wind) is a bit scary.

She has also played with a treat ball this afternoon, managing to release most of the treats - but it kept rolling away so in the end she grabbed it and took it up on the sofa - sandwiched between her front paws - to try to remove the rest!

She is now spark out snoring gently - bless her, I shall really miss her when she returns to the kennels next week, she has been an absolute dream to be with. xx

I'm so happy that my work pattern and Christmas have coincided so well this year, giving me a lovely long time off and meaning we could welcome Vera into our home for her Christmas holiday.

She was such a good girl with our Chrismas Day visitors, she enjoyed our walks by the lakes and had such fun playing with her squeaky toys. She is bright as a button and very quick to learn and respond to you. Now her confidence has grown she has really come out of her shell and lets herself go!

She has been clean in the house every day, and will happily take herself off to the sofa whilst we eat.

It's a delight helping her to learn about the outside world, and this sweet and fun loving little girl is ready for her very own home now. Xx

Vera has had such an exciting first day away from the kennels. We brought her home after our stint helping out this morning, and bless her she still hasn't a clue about getting into the car!!

On getting home she sniffed every square centimetre of the house (she has a very loud sniff!) and learned to do the stairs in about 3 seconds!!

Bless her, we had a lovely walk down to the golf club and by the lakes this morning - she is understandably so inquisitive about absolutely everything she encounters, she can be a bit strong on her lead as she wants to see what is around her, but is always more relaxed on the return journey!!

She ate all her dinner beautifully, and has had fun playing with the squeaky toy Michael bought for her from the kennels this morning. There is a fun loving, cheeky little girl just waiting to emerge - and we really hope that some time out of kennels and in a home environment will be of help to her in her search for a forever home.

Considering all the new and overwhelming sights, smells and experiences she has come across today, she's made a brilliant start. xx

We met Vera in October when we visited the kennels, and I must say she made a big impression on me, full of character and such a sweetie, loved her, hope she doesn't have to wait too much longer for her forever home xxxxxx

We had the pleasure of the company of this beautiful little lady on the Brueton Park walk this morning. As Norman said previously, she hadn't a clue about getting into the car bless her - her face was a picture when we "assisted" her in!! She does travel nicely though, and delighted in squashing Michael all the way to the park!

Initially she can be quite strong on the lead, and was doing a fair bit of weaving - but there was so much going on around her and loads of exciting things for her to look at!

She behaved beautifully when encountering other breeds of all shapes and sizes, interest only being shown when she spotted off lead dogs doing zoomies, but no reaction other than raised ears. Which is a good job as on the way back to the car a rather over enthusiastic Golden Labrador launched himself at her - he was on a lead and just wanted to say hello, but crikey, if there was ever an other breeds test moment that was it!! Vera wasn't phased at all bless her.

On the return leg we were at the front of the group and Vera wasn't surrounded by a crowd, and she walked much better - maybe she was getting tired, but I also think part of her initial weaving was because she couldn't see what was going on!!

It was great to see some ex residents, other breeds and some of the kennel dogs all enjoying a lovely walk in the sunshine.

Thank you for a lovely walk Vera, you were a really good girl. You returned to Daybreaks with your head in Michael's lap quietly snoozing (don't panic - I was driving!!!) and I felt quite guilty disturbing you when we arrived.

Vera is a lovely girl, she likes her own space when it comes to other greyhounds. But like any other spoilt princess she loves attention! She enjoys going for walks and playing with toys. Surely her home is around the corner? xxx

Vera already has a lot going for her with her lovely 4 white socks and white tip to her tail making her very attractive to the eye. However there is so much more to her than just her looks.
Today on her first visit to Brueton Park she behaved perfectly in every way.
She met all sizes of other breeds and small children without any problems. She also travelled perfecly in the car (although hasnt quite mastered jumping in on her own yet !)
She loves life and is quite keen on the lead especially early in the walk so consequently would probably need someone with the confidence to walk an active dog.
She was an absolute delight to take out. Hopefully her permanent home will arrive sooner than later. She deserves it.

Vera met Bailey this afternoon our border collie and got ln really well. They had a walk around the car park and there was no issues at all. Vera is a sweet girl and would make a great companion in a caring home.... Xx

aggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! :-(((( Miss Vera was booked in for her spey today but on doing her pre vet trip check we noticed she had started bleeding. No wonder she had been a bit of a cranky pants! She will be in season for around 10 days and then can't be speyed until 12 weeks from the end of her season. Gutted :-(
