It is never easy saying goodbye or saying hello to another prospective boy or girl but I firmly believe that if we work through the pain barrier we carry on the legacies left behind by our previous four legged beauties. I am 100% confident that no rainbow bridge boy or girl would tell their parents to not help another in need and indeed would be blessing them with their love and thanks for having firstly adopted them and then being brave enough to move forward and help another. Oh course Charlie, bertie and blade sent rocky for you...there is no way they could allow such fantastic parents go to waste without a hound! And clearly Rocky knew exactly what he was doing just bidding his time waiting for his beyond perfect life! So pleased for you all xxx

Just would like to thank you all for your kind remarks and of course not forgetting the great Daybreaks staff and helpers who turn what could be a very difficult time for the hounds into a positive one. We have been lucky to have had three super boys, the last one Blade who came for a week and stayed for six years. All three are still with us in spirit buried in their favourite viewing spots in the garden. For various reasons we are not ready for another dog, but Michelle had been watching him since he came into the kennels, and felt an emotional tie even though she had not met him and dared not. He came and went leaving quite an empty space in the home. Also it quickly became evident that Rocky had all the good traits of our three, and a couple of let us say interesting ones, ( he is not over keen on bikes, but I am not a fan either), it is as though they had sent him. So what could we do, but give him the key to the door. He Will be off to France soon for a break, lots of bikes and small handbag dogs, so plenty of desole and pardon but who cares, he’s a Rockstar.

OMG! Just got back from my daughter's and seen this brilliant news. Rocky you are a very lucky boy. Love to all. Xx

A massive thank you Michelle & Roy for finding time to help him and give him a much needed break from daily kennel life. He is indeed a very bright and affectionate lad, as they all are to be fair, but some need more stimulating than others and he is still not so old yet. I am sure he is truly grateful for all your help and friendship as are all his supporters! Keep up the good work. X

2nd impression

Rocky really is a loving affectionate , happy and highly intelligent hound, he just needs to learn a couple of commands, we were told that he is very reactive to bikes and other dogs other than greys. So yesterday we walked a cycle path into Stratford, he walked nicely only stopping to sniff to see who been by. Sod’s law, no bikes, but we did meet a few dogs and a couple of swans at close quarters. Yes he did react to the dogs by barking, getting excited and waging his tail, I found keeping him close and a couple of fingers placed on his head and saying no, not shouting, but with a firm voice, he would go into a calm state, not always but enough times to make me believe that with practice he will learn. One of the swans hissed, his eyes widened, ears went up and being sensible he backed away.

Because I use a van with wide doors it’s imperative that a dog must learn to stay inside until I get a lead on, so off up to the barn for a bit of formal training, only 10 minutes in the morning and afternoon, there is a video of some of the afternoon but he had a long day and Michelle filming proved to much of a distraction, however he’s picked stay with respect to the van pretty quickly and again all things considered if someone spends a little time and patience he will learn very quickly.

Saturday morning, visit the road show at pets at home and a sniff around the meadow, then back to the kennels, but hoping he can come back to stay with us for a few days next week, Rocky is a super boy and we really want to give him as much help as possible.

Sorry guys I think I may have mislead some of you with my first post, re muzzle . The muzzle was off when Rocky was in our private and secure meadow, no public.

Absolutely, Michelle and Roy will give Rocky a wonderful break and all their help im sure will help get him his forever home xxx

Ahhh, dont worry guys. I dont know your background/circumstances and if the time is not right for adoption then it is not right. However, getting him out of the kennels after so many months and teaching him new things and letting him have a positive home experience will undoubtedly benefit him in the long run. I am sure he will benefit from your love and experience and it will be an enjoyable time for all of you. I wish you all the very best for your time together. Please give him a big hug and kiss from me. Hes a bigger & stronger & a bit of a blacker version of my Melly!!! X

I feel I must say something, we have taken him to help him transition from racing to home life. But we are in no position to take on another hound yet.
So please don’t think this is a trial, he’s a great dog highly intelligent and very loving, we would have him in an heart beat, however circumstances are not right at the moment. Roy

OMG.....Rockstar......way to go boy!!! We are over the moon with joy and a little tear or two at such wonderful news. You are such a fabulous lad and just need your own environment now in which to learn, grow and flourish and show off your 'rockstar' qualities. Be a good boy.....it all sounds so very positive. Oh well i am over the moon to see of this fostering! I can understand that rocky is privledged to be at michelle and roys because of difficult circumstances but how proud would all of your 3 boys be now?! But Rocky isn't blonde lol! Now what was it you said to me Michelle when deciding on jet 'stop been your blooming normal sensible self and just take jet!' And you know what thank goodness i listened as where would i be without him now?! Keeping all my fingers crossed for you all as i was there all those months ago on the day rocky arrived and its been too long! First impressions. Rocky is an intelligent
boy who finds the outside world exciting and full of wonder and I believe he will settle down once he knows what's what. Remember he did a lot of racing, so all this is very new.
He loves the motor looking out of the window, no barking or leaping around, just enjoying all the new intriguing sites and sounds. First the meadow, he didn't go mad but enjoyed sniffing with the odd burst, he also went down this afternoon https://youtu.be/FzoAKRKXQq4.
Then on the Maybird Center, Michelle disappeared into Boots and I walked around, he was as good as gold, only raising his head when a chap walked past eating something. Followed by a walk around Pets at Home and past the rabbits a few times, whether it was the glass or too many others things going on, but no reaction.
And now home he's had a look around the garden and now sleeping in front of the telly.
I know this against the rules and I have no doubt I will have to report to the headmistress for a telling off. But I was informed he doesn't like his mussel, therefore I have left it off and maybe its a trigger for him to go racing, and up to now apart its the rule, I have seen no reason that he needs to wear one, he's walked by my side through a park and around the shopping centre, stopping for a pee and sniff, but that's it.
Tomorrow the cycle path.

Rocky came with me to Elmdon Park today. He stood very nicely to have his lead on and jumped in the car happily. He was very excited to be at the park, which did result in him being quite vocal but we did manage to greet a German Shepherd without any barking! He's a lovely boy, who needs to be shown the ropes of how to transition into life as a pet. If you're willing to do that, I'm sure you're going to have a hound that adores you as your reward x

This is so sad, but I know how difficult it is with a powerful dog, when our Grey Dexter first came to us he was unbelievably strong and reactive to other dogs, he's 10 now has calmed down lots but still has his moments, Rocky will find his forever family soon I'm sure, he just needs somebody that is strong enough to handle him and knows how to avoid situations that flick his switch so to speak. Fingers crossed for you Rocky, and many thanks to your Xmas foster parents for giving you a great Christmas xxxx

Sadly Rocky was unreserved today. His foster parents are extremely upset, but feel that as he is so strong on the lead he needs to have further training to help his enthusiasm, which presently they are unable to provide. In the house he was a perfect gentleman and settled very quickly.

Those of you who have met and walked Rocky know he is not happy around bicycles. :( We borrowed Ruth's bike yesterday and invited him to "meet" it! He sniffed it very cautiously at first but was quite relaxed. Then I rode up and down the drive a little and he walked past it, only barking once. I think it helped that I was only going very slow so as not to fall off!! We will keep on showing him bikes are not that bad. :) He really is a happy, loving lad who just needs some extra help with the scary outside world. Xxx

LOve this boy,we had a Rocky from Daybreaks some years ago looked just like this boy and a big soft lump,he saw my wife and when he was let out of his kennel he headed straight for her jumped on the sofa next to her and shoved his head under her chin so Rocky chose his new owner lol sadly no longer with us due to old age. WE wish Rocky all the very best in finding his new home. Good luck boy :D
