Although he’s getting creaky now, he’s still loves life and is first to the door when it’s walkies-time. We confirmed it with the Greyhound Studbook when we realised Tom was Gent's brother, but that their date of births were different. Happy 'Official' Birthday to our gorgeous boy Gent, who turns 10 today. Gent is our first Greyhound, so will always hold a special place in our hearts, but for me, he's my super-special boy. Cannot believe he's 10 though, caught him jumped up to the kitchen worktop this week, pulling at a pizza box, so he could get at the leftovers and he still gets his head stuck in the bin if he feels there's something worth taking - you'd think he was never fed, cheeky boy! Thanks Lil Brother. I had a ball at the seaside and loved my special fish and chips. My sister Emily couldn't have any cos she gets sick in the car (and that wouldn't have been a pretty sight), so I got to eats loads of fish! Mum and Dad are taking Emily to the Malvern show on Sunday, which is great, because I get to spend the whole day with my Grundparents, which I love cos Grundma always gives me a biscuit and a cup of tea when she comes to visit and Grundpa shares his apple with me too. Hi Kate. We actually discovered that Gent is only 9 years old, thanks to his brother Tom (and Maggie) and a phone-call to the English Greyhound Studbook - if only we could all reverse our birth-dates!!! Mr Gent has thoroughly enjoyed himself though, a lovely walk (and customary birthday gallop) around the park with Emily and his Lurcher pal Honey, spark out for the rest of the day and the hopping around the kitchen tonight when he clocked the sardine can heading towards his dinner bowl. The prize for the worst birthday present goes to me though, when I presented him with a new rain-coat. That boy is human, I'm sure he rolled his eyes at me, before taking himself off to the coolest part of the house!!!! Mand x

Poor Mr Gent, feeling very sorry for himself tonight. Very sick on his walk this afternoon and then started stumbling until he almost collapsed just outside our house - cue mad dash to vets! All routine obs ok, so think he's eaten something he shouldn't have on his earlier walk. Prescription: Anti-sickness injection, pro-biotic paste to go with his food, chicken and rice for a couple of days.....and LOTS of Mummy-sized cuddles - he's gonna hate me!!! Mand x

Tom! You are right, we are brothers. I must apologise in advance to anyone who reads our post, but when your long-lost brother contacts you, you gotta have a chat! Tom, my paperwork on Greyhound Data must have been mixed up, but my Mom rang the English Studbook a few years ago and we are definitely brothers. In fact, the mix-up makes my birthday the same as yours, so I'm a year younger than first thought, so I'm well pleased. I think I was born before you, which makes you my little brother. Do you remember us walking together when you came back to kennels 3 years ago? My Mom made up her mind that you needed to come home and stay with us, but Dad took a few days to understand. Dad came up to see Auntie Ruth a few days later to let her know, but your new Mom had already said she was going to look after you. My Mom cried for a whole day and Dad felt very guilty. We were all really pleased to hear that your new Mom was so lovely and you had a ready-made family and would want for nothing. That made me very happy and my Mom stopped crying. I got a little sister a month later called Emily. She's nuts, but she keeps me entertained! You will have to try and keep him away from the walls until it heals. This sort of injury does happen but usually in the kennel where space is limited. Keep it clean and bathe in warm salty water and try to keep him away from the walls until it heals. Anne with Willow did this and prevented a part tail amputation. Ruth puts a curler on the tip and supports this with a bandage until it heals. With Steffano's ‘know how ‘I am sure you will win through.

Uh oh, Gent's in the wars. Came home from work this afternoon and he's wagged his tail so much that he's caught it on the door-post and re-decorated the kitchen walls! It looks as though he's smacked the tip, although I can't see the actual cut. I've managed to get him to lie quietly while I pop on some antiseptic spray plaster. The bleeding seems to have stopped, but is there anything else I need to do? I'll keep him quiet tonight, but I don't know how long these things generally takes to heal. Gonna be a struggle to stop him wagging his tail when Daddy gets home from work! Mand x

Hi Ina. Thanks for your message, lovely to hear from you. Gent's absolutely fine - I think we're more bothered than he is! He's not limping, we just noticed the blood in the porch when we got home from his walk. Bathed his foot in salt water (he never even winced) and have got some antiseptic spray. Have no idea what he trod on, as we do try to 'scan' the route in front of him looking out for broken glass, etc. Hope to see you on the next walk and I hope that you are feeling better too. Mand x

This made me smile, yours are not the only ones, Sonny and Poppy are having a fantastic time dashing round in the snow ! Poppy scoops up the snow with her nose, and trys to catch it again! Sonny thinks its funny to run then stop and run again and jumps round in circles kicking the snow up with his feet, but they are not silly they are soon back in again after a couple of mins of fun LOL ! X

If you insist Pam, any excuse to tell you all how Gent is doing because we're so proud of him! We've had no problems with toilet training, although he does try to fool us by pretending to do a wee, because he knows he gets a treat afterwards! Wags his tail at every dog he sees in the park and stops for a nose if they are playing without him! Happy to take some fuss from some children playing in the park today, although I'm sure he'd have been off with their ball given the chance - he's off like Scooby Doo in the garden with his ball! Training him to do things little by little and got him to wait on his bed when we eat until we've cleared away, when he gets another treat. He'll even wait for you to bring the treat to him, rather than charging at the fridge! Can't imagine life without him. Mand x PS Thanks for dropping off his vaccination papers Pam, we've put it together with all his documents.

Gent came to say hello to us today at Webbs with his lovely owners. He looks so settled and is an absolute sweetheart.

I am sure you will meet lots of our lovely volunteers at the Sutton Walk, its a great walk, well organised by Heather and her family and plenty of lovely home made food, apart from the samosas which are from a nearby Indian Restaurant, they are great too. Perhaps we can catch up soon as you live within 5 mins walk from me. We could go for a stroll round Bournville with our greys

Hi Pam. He seems to have been fine. I've been nipping home at lunch-time and I'm always welcomed with a few 'greyhound bows'! All in all, he seems incredibly settled with us and I forget that we've only had him for 10 days. We're planning to go on the Sutton Park walk on Sunday - is anyone else going to be there? Mand x

It was lovely to meet you Pam and great to see quite a few greys at Waseley! Just to update you all, Gent is doing really well, although we still need to work on settling him in the car. We've only had him home for 5 days, but he's such a good boy and we simply wouldn't be without him. He's had such an exciting day today, that he's currently lying on his back with his legs in the air, fast asleep! Amanda x

Met Gent today at the Waseley Hills with his new owners. He is a lucky boy and loved to bits.

Gorgeous Gent - a proper gentleman. He was castrated today (sorry bud!) He was great with the small fluffy dogs at the vets this morning. He is off to his new home next week - he is a pleasure to have at the kennels. One of my favourites at the moment.....! x

the name gent suits him as he is such a lovely well behaved young man and he really is beautiful.
