Absolutely heartbroken to see this. Thank you for giving Finn such a fantastic loving home. He was such a lovely boy, if a little complex, but you never gave up and gave him so much love and support. So unfair his stay with you was not as long as he deserved. Much love to you. Xxx

Dear Nicola, I am heart broken for you all to hear such sad news. I know how much you loved Finn. Xxx He was a special boy who needed lots of help when you took him home. With your love and patience he became a very happy boy. Xxx I know how it feels to lose them so suddenly after losing my lovely Fletcher in much the same way last year. Thinking of you all and sending lots of love. God Bless your beautiful Finn. Kate Xxx

It is with disbelief that we have to share that we have lost Finn. For the first time ever he didn't want breakfast on Thursday morning and then declined during the day. When I took him to the vets, it never even crossed my mind that I would be returning home without him. A tumour. Devastated. Finn had a longer journey from kennel dog to settled pet than other greyhounds we've had and we were so proud of the dog he became. As the front cover of this year's calendar shows, he was handsome, happy and healthy (or so we thought). Two years with him in our family was not enough. Life is so cruel - he deserved a longer retirement. Our only solace is that he loved his life with us and we loved him. My shadow has gone but he is forever in my heart.

So it is a year since Finn came to live with us. Very sadly we lost Amber, but we gained Finn - and what a character he is. He was tricky to settle but what he's taught us is the rewards of perseverance. Amber helped him adjust - and while we wish so much she was still here - the fact that he has done so well is a tribute to her. Finn is happy, bouncy, partial to pigs ears, balls, squirrels (nearly caught one in the garden - he's damn quick!) loves his thunder shirt and likes to be with us as much as possible. He was enjoying Julie's training sessions on a Saturday morning before lockdown and we very much hope that they resume soon - while he may not be best in class, he enjoys the social side, who says dogs mirror their owners!

Finn has been with us for exactly five weeks and in these difficult times when our lives have been turned upside down, it makes you appreciate your greyhounds all the more.

Finn is certainly a character (and about as different from the poor soul we met in the kennels as it is possible to be).

He's taught us a lot. Not to leave margarine on the work top, or carelessly leave kids packed lunches in reach - and just how interesting squirrels in the garden really are. Amber has taught him how to smile (no, really - he grins like Amber when he sees us in the morning!), how to wag your tail carefully to avoid splitting it and creating a blood bath and how to eat pigs ears (Amber is the champion at eating those - he is positively slow in comparison). Mind you, Amber has learned to eat her breakfast more quickly!

Seeing his crazy ears in a morning makes us smile - it looks like he has bed hair! What a chap.

So we took Trebles home for the day to see Amber. We had no idea whether she would even let him in the house, so it was a meeting that could have gone either way....(and she has rejected all of the other dogs she's met) Very pleased to say that it was extremely positive - she didn't growl at all, but was very happy to sniff and follow him about. She even let him sniff her, which is absolutely unheard of! We all got soaked this afternoon on a bonding walk (he doesn't mind the rain). He is a super boy (and he has ears like K9 in Doctor Who). We are very excited. Fingers crossed!

We came to meet Trebles again today after a positive meeting with Amber on Thursday. The whole family is smitten with him - it is up to Amber now. She is much better with him than anyone else we've met, although she did have to have a grumble - very minor in comparison to when she met poor Ringo - so sorry Ringo, we certainly won't inflict her on you again! If Trebles is still here later in the week, we'll be back to see you boy. Fingers crossed!

Trebles is such a handsome boy. He came with me to Sheldon Country Park today. He happily jumped in the car and settled immediately. He also walked really well. He was a bit interested in non greys but nothing that a little gentle direction didn't fix. He's a lovely boy. Here's hoping for his forever home very soon x

Awww Trebles. Such a pity. Maybe you need to be with another hound and someone who doesn't work or works from home. If we had space and didnt have our hands full with Skip and Sam we'd certainly give you a chance with us. Good luck in finding your forever home. It's out there soon. x

We are heartbroken to have taken Trebles back to the kennels today. Unfortunately it just didn’t work out. We feel he would be more suited in a house with no stairs and people that don’t really go out often and have a lot of time to be able to help him with his separation anxiety. We are gutted as we loved him and he was a great lad. I’m sure the right home is out there for him. Hugs for you beautiful lad! Xx

We have started calling him Archie short for Archibald because of his bottom being bald because he never answers to trebles and we are not stuck on the name. We also don’t think he will be going anywhere else soon. Very please with him. A true champion in our eyes.

Day 3: we went to Sheldon Country Park today and had a lovely walk. He is great on the lead and no pulling at all. We saw a few dogs and was good with them. Little dogs he is interested in but still doesn’t pull just staring. As we were leaving the park two little dogs came up to him which were off lead. They were very intimidating and wouldn’t leave him alone however Trebles stayed very calm during this but when it got too much he did a little bark to get away but nothing aggressive. We are proud of him for coping so well! When we got to the car he waited patiently while we wiped his feet. Very good boy! Can I just say he travels amazingly in the car and we don’t hear a sound off him just lies there until he realises we have got out of the car. Loves his food and was trying to pinch my chocolate buttons and foster mommy’s crisps. He races upstairs if you have food! Slept through night again great. We watched back the tape from when we left him for bit which wasn’t long. There is definitely signs of separation anxiety but we are not giving up and will definitely be working with him through this. It will just take time! He is a lovely boy! Xxx

Day 2 with Trebles: He has been a delight so far and we love him to bits. He slept through the night perfectly when Deborah went to bed. He has got use to the stairs now as he came down for breakfast and let himself back up again. He is most definitely coming out of his shell a bit and gaining more confidence. He decided to pinch a snowman off the tree and run into the room with a butchers tin from the kitchen! We left him for 10 minutes to see how he would get on. There are a few issues but we should be able to fix them overtime. He is fantastic in the house and let’s you know when he wants the toilet. He does like to follow us around a lot that’s for sure. He is a fuss pot. We took a trip to Pet At Home today and he came along. He had a great time... well when he found out there bunny rabbits. Was great with children and other dogs. He did pay attention to a small pug but nothing bad, just staring really. We took him around see if he would like anything but all he was really interested in was the rabbits! HeHe. Anyway we decided to buy him a ball. He seems to love it when we got home. The only problem is there is a forever squeak in the house... oops we might have to hide that at night! Xx

A report from Trebles himself: Today was very weird. Hoomans took me to a place. They said it’s called a pet shop. It was greytz but I didn’t pay attention to anything. There were some greyt fluffy things with long ears there and I was very interested in them to focus on anything else. This new ball is amazing I’m making as much noise as possible with it. Itz greyt fun! Trebles Xx

Yes we did end up coming home with a foster boy, Trebles! So far he has been the perfect house guest. He has settled well but does keep getting up out of bed if we leave the room. It’s all new for him and he seems a little nervous and confused about things which is understandable. He ate his dinner perfectly and played with his KONG Ball for a good while. He likes to have a good rest in his bed or on the floor and comes for fuss. We are struggling to get him to pee in the garden but I’m sure overtime he will get use to things. Overall his a lovely gentle boy and we love him. We will see how the night goes and we will go from there. Must be so confusing for him! We haven’t tried to let him upstairs yet but his got the option to. Doesn’t seem keen on them but probably overtime he will be racing up them. He seems happy enough which is good. As of yet no accidents in the house and his great on his walks. Seems great so far! Xxx
