Larry is delightful, such a lovely friendly boy. Absolutely delighted he has already found himself a new home. :) So very sorry for his previous owner; it must be a very difficult time for him. It Is thanks to Charlie, who walks Larry for caring so much about him that he has been given this chance of a new life. I know she will miss him very much. Xxx

POST SENT TO ME BY TEXT FROM CHARLIE WHO HAS BEEN INVOLVED WITH LARRY'S CARE

Attention prospective dog owners. Larry the greyhound is looking for his forever home. His elderly owner is no longer able to manage his care and give him the kind of life Larry truly deserves.
It’s a sad story but i am determined it will have a happy outcome. It is absolutely the best thing for Larry. He’s not living his best life. He is a playful dog who loves fuss and affection & his current environment just does not suit him. He gets sad. I’m his dog walker and general care giver. He looks forward to my daily visits so much and is bursting with affection when I arrive. He cries when I leave. ???? He is simply craving the love, attention & focus of someone who can walk him and play with him and fall in love with his shiny nose, his wagging wonky tail, bandy legs and his adoring sparkly eyes. He has so much love to give and is literally as Happy as Larry. A big greyhound with a big goofy personality. But he’s not a needy boy once he’s had his exercise, fuss and food he’ll flop on his bed and lie there happily snoozing for hours. I’ve been providing canine care for Larry for 2 years, so I walk him, manage his diet, health check him, groom him. I know his every nose & tail twitch. I’ve completely fallen in love with him and it’s breaking my heart and if I didn’t have an elderly dog of my own (who is going blind and who would be very upset by a new arrival), then Larry would already be installed, snoring on my sofa.
Larry is a super shiny black, 5 year old male, ex racer. At 2 years old he was bought from Ireland by his owner to race him from
a kennels in Essex. He raced for a year or so and won a few races. Then suffered an injury. So he came to live with his owner in Birmingham who was looking for a companion. His elderly owner had a fall before Larry arrived and lost a lot of his mobility. I started walking Larry around this time. So he has been living in a home for 2 years and has fully adjusted from kennel life to home living and knows how to be a good boy.
Although he occasionally destroys a newspaper for fun overnight. ???? He is great with other dogs & loves it when I bring a pal along on his walks (he whinnies with excitement)
His best friends are Misha a fellow male greyhound and Misty, she is a large standard poodle who is definitely the boss on their walks ????
He’s not keen on in yer face puppies though. He is great on the lead. He mostly has one 45 min walk a day but he would be happy to have this split into two walks.
He is cat reactive on walks so just keep your eyes peeled. He also needs to be introduced on his lead, slowly to smaller dogs he has seen at a distance, so that he can work out they are not a rabbit! Once he’s seen them up close he’s fine.
I don’t have him off lead. I think it is something he could perhaps do in the future though, with a bit of time & effort (with a muzzle and some work on his recall). He walks really well on the lead though. Travels ok in the car - with a bit of encouragement to get in. He pants a little bit at first - again - this can easily be worked on.
He loves tummy tickles and affection and is just a big bundle of love. I would love him to go to a home where he can become someone’s soul dog/best buddy. It’s all he wants in life (and lots of nice food!) a comfy bed or sofa of course, a secure garden. Maybe some trips to the seaside because he definitely deserves a holiday.
Owning a dog is a big commitment so please think carefully about how much time Larry would need you to give him, & the financial side of things too: food, vets bill, insurance etc. You need to be FULLY committed. And in return you will be FULLY rewarded, a million times over in unconditional love and adoration.
Larrys rehoming is kindly being looked after by Daybreaks Trust near Birmingham Airport. We are very grateful for all of their help and support. Please contact them directly if you would like to meet him. I’m happy to answer any questions about him. He’s going to be very sad going back into kennels after so long in a house. I’m already worrying about him being confused or frightened. But I know the staff and wonderful volunteers will look out for him. Plus I’ll be visiting often so he knows he’s not been forgotten.
It’s my mission to find Larry a happy place that he can finally call home and live out the rest of his days as “Happy as Larry” ttp://daybreakstrust.co.uk/contact/
