Well, Steve is back from holiday in our bungalow in Cornwall and we have learnt some new things about him again. We discovered he does not like thunderstorms when we had a sudden enormous storm in the middle of the night and he charged our bedroom door throwing it open and landed on our bed ! so not much sleep that night. having found that if a catch was loose on a door he could get in a room he shouldn't have been in, we arrived back one day to find we had had a 4 legged burglar take a large bag of "goodies" we had packed to bring back home out of a bedroom and scatter them around the living room. Mainly just wrappers left from sweets and biscuits (luckily no chocolate ) and Fat Neck Finn covered in cocoa powder because Steve had ripped up 6 ready filled cardboard hot chocolate cups, didn't like the content and so just scattered it everywhere poor Finn included who looked like a Brindle hound and Steve just wagged his tail at me. No ill effects just a sugar rush and a bit of loose poo which probiotics cleared up. All catches on doors are now checked and tightened. lol Never a dull moment xx

I have to report that I have a cross between Oliver Twist and the Thief of Bagdad living in our house. Aka "Steve" He has learnt most of the rules of the house from me and Fat neck Finn, but the "Kleptomania" is no better, lol. This morning I heard a crash in the room next to the kitchen and put my head around the door to see the bowl and oranges on the floor and Steve heading off with one in his mouth! He had obviously decided if we eat them they must be good! I am also beginning to wonder if he is a budding alcoholic ! I have a whiskey liqueur every night, and my husband a cognac, Unfortunately, the second night we had Steve he saw me drink mine and ever since has been set on trying it, as I seemed to enjoy it. Well, the night before last in an unguarded moment he drank it out of the glass without even knocking it over !!!!! I walked in to see him smacking his lips and reeking of alcohol, luckily I only have a small amount so he suffered no ill effects and went for his evening walk as usual. He is always looking for food and never full up. Last night after they had been fed I saw him licking around Finn's mouth in the hope there were a few crumbs left there. No chance of Finn leaving anything. lol, He is still very loving especially after my alcohol (a bit like my hubby) so it is hard to be upset with him for long, he is learning all the time and now knows Oranges are not to his taste! lol

Well, Warrior, aka Steve is so loving, he comes up and pushes my laptop off my knees so he can rest his head on me and gaze into my eyes. If I move he follows me around the house. I would like to think it's because He loves me so much he cannot bear me out of his sight, but I am a realist and accept that I am the bringer of FOOD, and he knows I have many places it is hidden from him! so if he follows me enough he may just discover some lol So far he has been testing out what is edible and what is not. A tub of birdseed all over the living room carpet evidently was not, even though he has seen the birds enjoying it !!! A bowl of dried potpourri was only good for crunching up not eating it seems, and a few mixed flavour tea bags went the same way. I have spent time teaching him not to snatch and swallow a sausage whole !! and that if a chew is still in Fat Neck Finns mouth, he has NOT finished with it yet even if he does let you have it, and he is learning. They swap beds constantly now, without any grumbles and even lie close together on the carpet, and if Stevie thinks I have been a bit cross with him he will go and lie behind Finn and wag his tail at me LOL He is very sweet and I am hoping he will realise he doesn't have to search for food constantly or steal things as there is always a plentiful supply at mealtimes. he is now laying at my feet in case I sneak out to the kitchen without him God love him xx

So nice to hear how Finn and Steve are getting on, finding out whose in charge of what and just generally adapting to one another, I always find it very interesting when a new inmate arrives, the fussy eater suddenly develops an appetite, they suddenly want a particular bed that they never used to bother about, they are so funny, but that's why we love our hounds so much. Keep up he good work Steve, looking forward to seeing your sign turn Green xxxxx

Well, it's a week today since Warrior "Steve" came home with us to see if he and Fat neck Finn could have a Bromance as all the ladies rejected him. Ahhhhh, Since we lost our lovely girl Nina who definitely wore the pants (as they say) Finn had been doing his own thing more and we did have the worry that he might have quite liked his new life as "Billy no Mates" lol and was getting to grips with being his own man. He was a bit wary of Steve for the first day or two if he came too close, and at feeding time, and definitely when Steve tried to get into bed with him especially as Steve has not had "the op" yet. It seems now that Finn still indifferent to a "friend" has taken on the role of "old boy, let the "young un" do his thing and settle in. I get my walks, my food and still lots of love, and I get in my own bed when I want to, but now pinch Steve's as well when I want a snooze. Steve will go over to him for the occasional nose touch but is still wandering around on his own exploring and looking for more food. He has learned the meaning of "wait" and "no" and stands watching me at the kitchen door while I get their food prepared, and Finn lays down behind him, just as he did with Nina, so hoping things will only get better. Not sure its been good for Finn's diet as he is very keen on not missing out on any treats now. Steve seems to be finding his place as well, just like my hubby did when we first moved in together !!! so after first week it's looking good.x

Another quiet night with Warrior "Steve", with one warning growl which I suspect was from Finn, as when my husband went down and checked Steve was trying to screw up Finn's blanket which we had moved away from his old bed which Steve has taken over! After that was sorted they gave us a "are you awake" whine at 7.30. He has not made any "puddles" in the house since we bought him home. I say puddles, but could be classed as small ponds when he does go !!! Never known a dog have such a long wee. Finn has been down the garden and back and Steve is still weeing lol
Stand calling Steve and now I think the neighbours believe we have a lodger !!! I might have to take one in actually if Steve's appetite doesn't settle to help pay his food bill. He is still wandering around the house with me most of the day exploring. It must be such an exciting and frightening thing, all at the same time, the freedom after their previous life. He loves his new walks around the parks and is not worried by the traffic even on the main roads. So far has shown no interest in other breeds he has seen in the park even fluffy (come and get me ) small dogs. lol, Cannot say the same for squirrels! He is a very sweet boy who loves a cuddle and fuss and I am now attempting to make him wait at the kitchen entrance with Finn while I prepare dinner to be served in the breakfast room while I stand between them, as Steve has eaten his in seconds and would have no hesitation in going over to help himself to Finn's, who would let him have it!!! so think that's it for today's update and Steve has his head on my knee as I have been sat too long !!! lol Bless xx

Oh my lovely boy, what a fun update for you! Sounds like you are embracing this "home life" thing head on!! Just remember to listen carefully to your Mum & Dad, and take an example from Finn - there is so much that's new and exciting isn't there, lots to learn. Really hope things work out for you. xx

Well, we survived the night with a few grumbles and barks early on. Then slept till 7 am. They were muzzled, which Finn was not too happy about but accepted. Finn wouldn't hurt a fly but I think he is a bit intimidated by this younger lothario when he gets too close, so safety first. Warrior (Steve) is a happy boy and at the moment is my velcro dog, following me everywhere and even wags his tail when I am telling him NO ! but goes to his bed (or should I say Finn's bed) lol when told. Soon realised the kitchen and I am the bringer of food, and counter surfing may become an Olympic for which he is in training ! Finn was always very subservient to Nina and think he is heading that way already with Steve! Poor old boy, I think he had just got used to stretching out across 2 beds and living life at his pace, but all in all, still have fingers crossed that this will be a happy union. "Steve" is just in love with new experiences and FOOD but after 1 day we can see he has the potential to be a loving sweet boy. xx

Loveheart, it was an absolute pleasure finding Fat Neck Finn a companion today, no patients needed at all, it was a total pleasure. Again how funny that you were looking for a different type of dog and Finn and Warrior (Steve) seemed to be so comfortable with each other. Hope all goes well. X

Well within 10 minutes of getting in the house Warrior (Steve! my husbands idea for a name!!! lol) had tried to get in bed with Fat neck Finn, and Finn was having none of it, and also stolen the end off my chicken & sweetcorn sandwich that I stupidly put on a plate on a coffee table unguarded !! Finn never steals food now so I was off my guard, the lesson was learnt. He has enjoyed his meal tonight and is learning what is OK and what is not. At the moment Finn is his usual laid back self, and Steve is asleep on the bed I have told him is his., but now Finn won't lie by him so all is quiet, early days so fingers crossed. Thanks to Joe for her patience in helping to get Finn a friend, who by the way he enjoys his food will soon be known as "Big Steve" lol Thanks Ruth for pointing us in the right direction, as I said fingers crossed. x

It is always lovely to see the gorgeous Warrior when you open up the kennels in the morning. He is happy to see you, has a lovely clean kennel - but is obviously not impressed with my bed making skills!! Despite always giving him a lovely smooth bed, with tucked in corners, by the following morning it is scraped up into a heap with at least one blanket hanging over the edge touching the floor!!

He is a real sweetie, who is a bit of a ladies man!! Lets hope his forever home comes along soon. xx

Was lovely to be greeted by a waggy tail from this handsome fella when we opened up this morning. He is still a little cautious, but in such a short space of time has come a really long way.

He had a lovely clean kennel, tucked into his breakfast, and enjoyed a lean and a cuddle - well done fella. xx
