Absolute fantastic news on Rocky. I'm so happy he is settling in well, I knew he would. He will be spoilt rotten Christmas no doubt... He deserved to be in the calendar to be a face of Daybreaks and what he did for us and what we did for him.

As a blast from the past here is couple of videos on Rocky from sometime ago:

Having fostered rocky for the last week, we can't believe how good he has been rocky is the ideal dog for us. He loves his walks, food and fusses. We are amazed that he has spent so long at the kennels as he is such a good dog. He is already part of the family, and look forward to making it official with kate on thursday.

Took the delightful Rocky out to Earlswood yesterday. We hadn't seen him for a few weeks and what a welcome when we picked him up. He jumped straight into the car before the boot was fully up! Once there we had a lovely walk with him walking on a loose lead. We came into contact with a number of dogs, birds and ducks which Rocky ignored and just carried on his walk. We called off at a local pub on the way back and again there were a number of dogs in the beer garden. Again he was happy to just sit with us and relax. He was so well behaved and a pleasure to take out. I do wish someone would take a chance and offer this handsome, loveable boy his forever home xx

Cuddle for you today Rocky xxx

I saw Rocky at the Kennels, he is such a stunning dog!!

Rocky stayed with us for on foster, as a break for him; please read his blog!!

He didn't bark at all,
He was house clean and very respectful.
He was a lot of fun and had us in stitches as he is such a silly pup when he plays. And he played really nicely.
Rocky needs clear commands and boundaries. He's only young, he needs teaching not telling xx

Rocky, you deserve your own home so much. You need someone to give you the chance to show them how super you are.

A gentle, nurturing and encouraging family.

You are beautiful xx

I have just taken Rocky to Fivelands vets for his vaccination where he absolutely loved all the attention he got. The sad thing is, he arrived in August 2022 and he still hasn't found that forever home he longs for. He really is a very handsome boy - possibly more like a small horse as he is so big, but he is happy and loving. He travels well and absolutely loves time in the sand run at the kennels. If you are interested, please give us a call. 0121 782 7702.

Oh Rocky, was so sorry to hear you're unreserved. This boy's amazing, we fostered him for 11 weeks and if it wasn't for pulling me over (I am on the tiny side) he would still be with us now. He's the perfect gentleman in the home, sleeps all night, waits patiently for his food/treats, knows his place when you're eating. Loves playing with his toys, and enjoys the garden. He's such a lovely boy, he really deserves his forever home. Whoever adopts him will not regret it. X

Rocky Rockstar is back at Daybreaks. Sadly he pulled his owner over and chased after a cat. He is such a big strong boy and very keen so we have got our work cut out on working with him.
We have enrichment stations that he will work with daily from tomorrow to see if we can mentally stimulate him in addition to stretching his legs in the sand run now he is back to kennel life.

I feel so sad for him.....

Hello all, we've now had Rocky for 9 weeks now, he's doing really well, loves his walks (he has 3 a day) and adores lying in the garden with a few zoomies when he's in a silly mood which is quite often lately.

We are still having issues with meeting people, even when introductions are made and he seems happy to be fussed he suddenly barks for no reason. To clarify its not a nasty teeth bearing bark, just a kind of warning bark, but only to certain people, very strange.
But we love him to bits, he makes us laugh, the one day I was washing up and felt a gentle squeeze to my bottom, I thought it was my other half catching a cheeky pinch, turned round to find Rocky play bowing wagging his tail.
He has lots of admirers when I walk him, and why not, he's gorgeous.
He has an appointment at the vets to determine if he needs to see a chiropractor to check any issues with his head/neck area, why he may be barking at people.
Will update on how this pans out. X

We have been fostering Rocky (with a view to adopting) for 3 weeks now and he's settled really well. He's a very curious boy on walks always looking for cats, squirrels, pigeons, you name it he's looking! Sleeps well at night and not destructive when left during the day. His personality is really coming on, he makes us laugh when he plays with his crocodile, and loves to chase a football around the garden. We are trying to get him used to other people as he grumbles sometimes on introductions but that's a working progress. He's starting to pass other dogs without any problems even noisy ones which is a huge improvement. He's also called nudge in our home as he takes pleasure in nudging you up the bottom when you least expect it then wags his tail like "it wasn't me"
He's such a gorgeous happy boy.

We've had a lovely weekend allowing Rocky to enjoy chilling outside in the sunshine.

We keep his muzzle on as he is still very interested in things that move.... Lots of birds flitting about doing their spring thing.

Such an honour to be able offer him this opportunity and experience, we don't think he will have had to date.

Still lots of firsts for this lovely lad, he's doing well.

He loves to play and he's started offering his tummy and legs in the air too!

We took Rocky to meet Erik today and followed by a lovely surprise treat for Rocky... The sand run!

Erik gave us some really great advice to work with Rocky; helping reassure Rocky not to feel worried or threatened when someone/things comes toward him.

Rocky has never shown aggression or barked with us, he just grumbles if he is unsure. We have strategies which we are going to practice lots! Horay...Lots of treats boy!!!

So great to then see this gorgeous boy running free on the sand run.

They are such magical stunning animals x

Foster update*
Rocky has remained out on foster because it is so amazing to work with this lovely lad, share his learning and teach him.
He is still working towards his forever sofa.

He is settling into human life well. He can be left alone in the day and is settled. He continues sleep downstairs on his own (he can't/wont do stairs; we haven't pushed it).
Eating and drinking well, house clean and obeys commands in the house well.

Rocky plays well with his toys, has a lovely crazy time in the evening where he launches his toys around, bows and is he is just delightfully hilarious!!

Rocky is slowly starting to become more desensitised to the world on his walks, he still remains quite distracted by other dogs and especially cats and squirrels; we're working hard with him and he's improving. He's a bit grumbly.

He hasn't met any children yet so I can't comment on that.

If you have experience in helping adopt and rehome Greyhounds, then Rocky is displaying very expected behaviours and he needs firm authority commands so that he knows how to manage his power and doesn't panic or overthink.

Please ask the Kennels if you are looking for a lovable companion like Rocky.
He is a gorgeous gentle giant who has a big soft heart and eager to learn and love.

Rocky is staying with us out on foster as he is doing so well, in the hope that we can help him find his way and his forever home, it's our privilege and a pleasure to help this lovely lad x

He's popping back to the kennels soon so we can't wait to see you all xx

Rocky has been fostered as he doesn't really do himself well being in kennels, as much as the team adore him, he doesnt seem to settle as well as the other dogs.
Rocky cried when we tried him in the crate; I wonder if this is linked.

Rocky has been sleeping in our kitchen/diner on his duvet bed. He has done nothing destructive and has slept from 10pm to latest wake up at 07:30!
Straight out for a wee.

Funnily enough, this lovely lad has not barked since being in the house.
He is a big puppy, just turned 4. Has a lot of play in him, however he sleeps soundly and is very obedient with a clear command.

Rocky has been staying in a child free and pet free home so this feedback is only based on THIS experience.

He walks well on his lead, he needs to continue to be socialised. He low grumbles / growls but doesnt bark when out and near other dogs. Keep him focused and walk past or distract with his treats. The folk we have come across have been so understanding, most dog owners will understand and support safe approaches, so keep faith and keep in control x

He is a lovely dog, who has so much unconditional love to offer. Please do contact the kennels to find out more
Let's get Rocky his forever family and home.

xx thank you xx

Can only echo mozzymoos comments about greyhounds been part of the best years...we only had 7 with our beautiful jet (which I know is longer than some people get but not enough!) But they were the most amazing, fantastic, heart warming and memorable years ever. Heartbroken that they had to end so soon but the love jet gave lives on with me forever.

Everyone needs to consider a greyhound as I always say! Xxx

Dear those who are looking at rehoming a Greyhound.
Lovely Rocky has been in foster care twice in support of his rehoming. Please be sure to read both updates; they say the same thing.

This lovely lad is a real credit to himself.
He's house clean, he is polite and curious but not destructive.
He is respectful and manages his behaviour via positive reward (sausage!!!)

Rocky is large, however his quiet nature means he is not invasive with it.

Rocky knows where his bed is. He has started to settle off his own accord; this is excellent for day 5... Imagine what he will be like once established.

Rocky needs more practice with graded, safe exposure to the world, dogs, stimulus. He does grumble, has only barked once in the week, however if safely intercepted with a firm distraction or a clear 'no', he adapts. You would need to take him training.
All greyhounds need adapation training. All greyhounds need to wear a muzzle and short lead until they can use their training safely and their owner is confident and in contol. (Which is the same for all dogs!).

Rocky lets me brush his teeth daily!! No battle, just lets me!
He waits for his food. He hasnt snatched or counter surfed.
He has learned 'lie down'. He hasnt interupted us eating at the table, he has lay nearby.
He allows me to place his muzzle and lead on with out fuss or question. He has allowed me to wipe his paws after muddy walks.

If you are clear with Rocky this helps him make connections and follow commands. He needs consistency, routine, practice and predictability.

His bed is his safe space, we don't fuss him there.
It's also where he plays with his green crocodile toy!!

He settles at night with his house coat, Kong, classic fm. Downstairs.
He sleeps through. We dont greet him in the morning, just let him straight out in the garden. He has a wee, then we reward, fuss and he comes back in (routine, structure, predictability).
We do the same after he has eaten.
Rocky is inquisitive so I would advise use the lead until he knows recall. Our garden is fully fenced, but you still dont know what other animals are about. These are ex racers- they only know to chase.

I genuinely believe this lad just wants to sleep safely in the knowledge he has his love and trust reciprocated.
With time to play and lots of treats that make his tail go like a helicopter!!!

Thank you for taking time to consider this gentle soul xx
Taking a Greyhound on takes time and patience, but they can really be part of the best years. We have had 2 greys before from Daybreaks, they were everything. Hence my fostering to give something back as I know how hard the Daybreaks team work to support these dogs and their owners, and how loving these animals can be if you follow the right advice, have patience and love to give x

It is a pleasure to be part of this part of your journey Rocky, I hope your happy future is out there xx

Day 6 with us,

A few uncertainties about sudden noises or movements, he is hypervigilant, however this is to be expected after living in kennels. After all he's only had a few goes at being in a house.
He's started to play, sleep and rest off his own accord which is the biggest compliment xxx surrendering to his tired and not thinking he's got to keep watch. Good boy Rocky, you deserve your time to rest xx

Rocky is just a true sweet soul. He's polite, clean and a total fuss face.
He needs an owner who is in control and can remain calm. He's got a lot of energy, but he's channelling it the right way.
He learns and makes changes to his behaviour.
He's the biggest foody, positive reward is the way forward.

Xx

Morning!!
3 nights here and this wonderful example of a greyhound has just slept through!!! 10pm- 6:30 am. Bit of classical music, soft bed and cong. (2 nights of confident reassurance was all he needed, how fantastic).
He continues to wait to go outside for a wee. He's eating and drinking well.
Walks well.
He has barked a couple of times but not in the house; this is normal for dogs so dont be put off!!

We practiced alone time yesterday (I was upstairs) which I think has really helped him. It's so easy to want to be with them all the time, but it's not fair if that's not the real world. That's when the seperation anxiety starts.
Being clear with Rocky from the start has made all the difference.

We both are amazed at this young lad. He's learning quickly and has done nothing destructive. He's politely curious.
No counter surfing, not trying the stairs.
He even lay down yesterday off his own accord, which, I was thrilled about!!

I hope anyone reading this who is considering adopting a greyhound takes this immaculate behaviour into account. I genuinely do not know why he is being over looked, he's only a pup who has years of his heart to offer you.

Rocky has an angelic soul, he really does. My goodness. ????

Good morning everyone x

It's Rocky, just checking in.
Hope you are all OK.

I settled in to my holiday home really quickly, I like to be involved with everything.

We went for a walk yesterday and a drive out. The car was OK, I just slept.
The walk was OK, those squirrel things are fascinating arent they. I saw a couple of dogs, i'm still trying to suss them out and why new people are trying to help me. I instinctively get a bit grumbly.

Anyways, i've eaten my food, i've kept the house clean and after a bit of an unsettled start (i know i was anxious) I finally slept on my own from about 2 am until 7. Which they said I was really superb.

I've had my breakfast, been outside and now we're just chilling.

Apparently today we're learning manners!! I've quickly learned to 'wait' for my food.

Here's to a lovely Sunday guys,

Sending love
Rocky. Xx

(Quick note from me; Hannah)
Rocky is as quiet as a mouse!! He has eaten and been clean. Not interested in worktops, stairs or mischief.
He's so gentle and is a bit of a people pleaser!! " Did I do that well?! Did I did I?!"

He's out on foster with us,
He's a credit to himself after so many months in the kennel, he is such a lovely boy xx

Took this handsome boy to Bruton Park today and we were so proud of him. Whilst he is still interested in other dogs with a little encouragement he walked past without reacting and was on a loose lead! He is a fast learner and just needs someone who will be confident and consistent when out walking and I believe it wouldn't be long before he got to the stage of not reacting to other fdogs. He is a real character and very loving. Hopefully he will find his forever home soon xx

Thanks so much to Kitty's family for taking Rocky out yesterday. Xxx He seemed better today, ate his meals and enjoyed playing with a toy after his lunch. :)) He still has an upset tummy but not quite as bad as it was. What he really needs to cheer him up is a special home of his own. :)) Xxx

Rocky was very pleased to see us when we went to pick him up for a walk in Brueton Park today. He settled in the car for the short drive and was happy looking out of the window. Once at the park he was happy to walk and although still interested in other dogs he soon settled and allowed himself to be guided by us. A quiet word when other dogs approached us and he got to the point of not bothering at all, especially if other dogs didn't bother with him. He loves people and was happy to venture into Solihull for a bit of shopping. He is such a lovely dog and will thrive in a home if someone is prepared to take a chance on him. Consistency and love are all he needs. Fingers crossed he finds the right home soon xx

I so hope Rocky will continue to improve. He's such a handsome boy. I also do wish people with dogs off lead would keep them under control and if they can't, then keep them on the lead when in public places.

Rocky came with me to Elmdon Park yesterday. He clearly wasn't himself when I arrived, as he was reluctant to get up and say hello. However, once I had collected a lead, he was much more interested. He was a good boy in the park and whilst he isn't perfect with every dog, he is learning and improving. From the time he spent with me in foster, I already knew that he would allow himself to be guided past other dogs without much of a fuss. Yesterday though we had a spaniel run at us and stand barking at us about 2 metres away. At first Rocky did tell him off, but then he just stood and watched him as if he just couldn't be bothered exerting the effort anymore. He is a really super lad and he would make a very loving pet. To summarise his time in foster with me: loves his toys, food, walks, cuddles and is clean as well as settled overnight. He was a perfect foster hound. I have everything crossed that he will get his forever home very soon xx

Poor Rocky - he just isn't happy..... his temperature is absolutely fine but he has lost his mojo. I am appealing for a foster home for this gorgeous boy. He is happier with larger breeds but excited with smaller dogs. He is clean in his kennel, loves cuddles and is just fed up with kennel life. Ruth using Kate's login!!!

Our lovely Rocky wasn't himself today. He didn't eat his breakfast, which is unheard of and he didn't really enjoy his morning walk. He had his temperature taken which thankfully was normal. He did eat his lunch and then spent the afternoon in the office, snuggled under the desk on a comfy bed. He has a Birthday card to open but we will wait until he feels better. Lots of love to our big lad Rocky. Xxx

Just watched the video of Rocky, loved it. Absolutely loved watching Rocky chase after and play with his toys, he certainly loves them, just cannot understand why this fabulous boy has not been snapped up, if our circumstances were different he would be here with us , I know he looks tall but greyhounds are big dogs, we had one who was 43 kilos and he was such a gentle giant, as the saying goes, if you're going to have one, you might as well have a big one!. Wishing you all the luck in the world Rocky in finding your forever home . Big hugs and kisses. Xxxxx

So pleased to see the comments of Elizabeth on Rockys stay with her over Christmas.
I've taken him to the park on previous occasions and he really is a terrific lad. It's strange how some dogs struggle to find the home they really deserve. Hopefully the New Year will bring that forever home that Rocky has patiently been waiting for.

I always have a kennel favourite and Rocky is my current one. I've really enjoyed reading how he has been getting on in his foster home, sounds like he was the perfect guest. I am sure he will make a greyt pet when his chance comes. As much as I love to see him I hope that chance comes very soon, in fact its way overdue in my opinion. With this glowing report from Liz_beth who can resist him. Perhaps people over look him due to his size and his laid back nature, he erhaps doesn't sell himself enough! Lets hope someone will give him the best happy new year...his forever home xx

Further to my comment yesterday, I wanted to add that Rocky travels really well in the car. He needs a little help to get in, but I'm sure he would gain confidence with time. I must mention as well how fantastic he has been overnight in the house. He settles at night time immediately (sleeping downstairs on his own) and sleeps till late. We have been getting up at about 8 o'clock and have not heard a peep from him. I have never known such a chilled out hound during the night. He has been completely clean overnight, every night. In fact we have only had a couple of accidents at the very start of his stay. As I said yesterday, he is a quick learner xx

Rocky has been with us since Christmas Eve. He is inquisitive, playful and affectionate. When he first came home with us, he was into everything and wanted to know what we were doing all the time. Now on day 4 with us, he still likes to know what we're doing, but if it isn't very interesting, he's happy to chill on his bed instead.

He loves his toys and food. He is quite happy to throw his toy around and entertain himself. He eats really well, but isn't pushy whilst I prepare his food. He has a good sniff at the counter, but doesn't jump up. On the first night, he was very curious when we sat on the sofa with a sandwich, but after a few minutes of firmly saying no, he gave up. He learns really quickly as already on Christmas Day he didn't bother us at the table, but lay on his bed next to us.

He has been on a good walk every day. He is excited to go for a walk, but allows himself to be leaded up sensibly. He walks at a good pace and enjoys a good sniff. He is quite interested in other dogs, but will allow himself to be guided past them.

He has investigated the stairs and isn't keen. He got half way up and froze. It was interesting getting him back down! We offered him a crate to sleep in, but prefers his normal bed.

Rocky loves his cuddles and always greets us in the morning with a waggy tail and gives the impression that he hasn't seen us for years.

He's a handsome and charming chap, who is on the larger side for a greyhound, but can curl up quite well. He is coming back to the kennels tomorrow due to my other commitments. He is a really sweet lad. Please do not overlook him because of his size. He's a lovable lump, who has a lot to offer his new owners. If anyone would like to know anything about his time with us, please just post a question.

Took Rocky to Brueton Park yesterday, he travelled well in the car and settled in no time. Once we arrived he was keen to go and explore his new surroundings, he is a very inquisitive boy. He walked well on a loose lead when alone but he tends to be a bit strong when approached by other breeds. He is a little unsure on how to greet other dogs and can be a bit exuberant. He responded well to a firm 'No" and lots of praise when he behaved, as a result of this he was much calmer by the end of the walk when approached by other off lead dogs. He is very happy with other people and loves fuss and attention from them, he was fascinated by the coffee machine at the VW Coffee Shack and had a good lean on the owner. Whilst we enjoyed our coffee, Rocky spent his time watching the action on the Tennis courts. We were so proud of him by the end of our visit to the park and the progress he had made in such a short amount of time. Looking forward to taking him out again soon.

Rocky last came with me to Elmdon Park back in August when he did at times seem a little unsure of things around him.
Happily it was a completely different story today.
He really enjoyed himself and behaved sensibly in every way. Travelling well in the car, walking relaxed on the lead and interacting well with other dogs and people.
It really is surprising that this happy friendly lad is still looking for that home to call his own.

We had been a bit concerned about Rocky when he first arrived at Daybreaks as he was drinking lots and we were filling his water bowl continuously. He was also weeing a lot. One of his siblings who had previously been rehomed from Daybreaks consequently was found to have renal disease.

When he went in for his neutering he had tests done. Blood tests came back normal but his urine was dilute. He therefore was admitted for an ultrasound and cystocentesis and thankfully these were also normal.

In a couple of months we will get his urine checked as and if this is normal, we will be confident he is 100% well enough to be rehomed.

The vets said he was a lovely enthusiastic boy (which we know!) and we know he will make a wonderful addition to a family soon.

Rocky has been drinking and weeing a lot since arriving at Daybreaks. When he was neutered, they did blood tests which showed he had a problem with his kidneys. He was therefore admitted to Fivelands Moseley for a kidney scan and cystocentesis and we will await the results. He is now patchwork from where he was shaved bless him.

Appearances can be deceptive and although Rocky at 40kgms plus has the look of a fearless heavyweight boxer he can still be quite unsure of himself in new situations. He apparently found the stress of the race track too much for him which could explain why in Elmdon Park today he appeared uncertain how to react when meeting other breeds. I'm sure in time he will be fine and with the right adopters who can understand his personality he will settle into home life perfectly
