I am so pleased that the lovely Karen has found herself a new home. She has also found herself a new name - Queenie!
Well done little one x

Karen continues to do well. I’ve set up a large crate I have being mindful that we’ll both be out all day on a Christmas do one day soon. The dog walker is booked to visit every few hours until I let her know we’re back. But I thought I might try crate training Karen so I know she’s all safe and snuggly while we’re out. She hopped straight in. I fed her in it initially too but she’s clearly taken possession of the new property and is regularly in there for a chill. I keep shutting the door both while I’m around and I popped out on dog walk #2 this morning and completely left her for 30 minutes.
In other news she’s been spayed now and although she’s been mithering at the shaved patch on her leg (she’s sporting some fetching blue vet wrap on it now) she’s making a great recovery and will soon be ready to go on to the next stage of her life.
And finally, it’s her 6th birthday today! She’s had a new toy and some munchies.
Karen’s a supper pupper and almost ready for a sofa of her own.

I’ve taken Karen away for the weekend. John is out on a Friday night and we didn’t want to leave her for what would have been 2 hours plus (she’s done 30 minutes ok) but I was due at my mum’s on Friday evening too. So she’s having a weekend at the seaside.
Despite the journey taking 4 hours (I should have known what the M1 would be like on a Friday evening) Karen travelled well with only a few grumbles from the back. After initially following me everywhere in a new house she’s now happy to leave my side and find the best places to lie down (by the radiators) and has settled very well. She slept in the same room as me last night but not on the bed with me (we don’t do that in our house).
She had a good walk round the village this morning and would have carried on beyond the hour we took (but we were back at mum’s by then). She waited in the van (in a HUGE crate) while I took mum to lunch at the pub in the village and now we’re all back inside with the heating on until tea time and a walk (just round the block) later.
Karen is a super affectionate hound (mum loves her) and is confident and ready for a home of her own. Can she have one for Christmas, please Santa?

What a great update on Karen! She sounds like real fun to have around. :)) Thanks so much to Cath and her family for fostering her and showing her what the outside world is like. :)) Hope her very own forever home will soon be hers. Xxx

We’ve had Karen as our latest house guest for not quite a week. She’s a lovely, confident hound. Very affectionate. She’s learnt to do stairs and has found the human beds upstairs. She very much wants to be part of the gang and chooses the dog bed in the centre of the lounge rather than the one at the end of the room furthest away from us and our other dogs. She queues nicely with the rest of our gang for treats and has good food manners. She walks well on lead with our other hounds and also small dog (Pod). She’s interested in squirrels but isn’t an idiot for them. She’s met lots of different dogs breeds now too and has been fine with all of them. She’s an opportunist counter surfer and a bit keen at doors and gates (you have to be careful to keep her back or she’d follow or get out ahead of you). But other than watching those two things she’s ready for a king sized bed of her own. And she’s nailed roaching now too!

What an absolutely gorgeous girl Karen. She walks beautifully on the lead. She loves strokes and especially ear rubs. She is going to be such a lovely pet. Massive cuddles for her tonight xxx
