Kitty continues to progress at a great rate. She’s still pinching toys and shoes and if you see her moving at speed she’s probably nabbed something else she’s not supposed to have and is heading for her den.
We’ve had kitty a month now and she’s such a different dog from the scaredy little thing that arrived. She’ll need a family prepared to let her develop and ease into their routines at her own speed. But in just a month here she’s already so different so rewards are there if you can let her go at her own speed.

Kitty was a star today. Out on our walk we got bombed by 2 off lead and out of control dogs. Big hairy barky things. Hastily followed by a woman profusely apologising and blaming her husband for letting the dogs out before she’d got the gate closed after arriving home - we were up a bridleway by the canal with HUGE posh (gated) houses down it. Anyway, Pod ran away, Pedro told them what he thought and Whitby and Kitty just stood there while the woman rounded up her errant beasts.
She’s since made up for it by escalating her kleptomaniac tendencies to include a clementine from the fruit bowl (she didn’t like it). It is lovely to see her mischievous personality emerging now.

Kitty has just play bowed to one of our other dogs! At almost 15 obviously he wasn’t up for it. But she was. And yesterday she jumped up at me. She’s currently got 4 toys in her crate as has abandoned another 4 on the lounge floor. No doubt she’ll collect them later. She sleeps through until chicken o’clock (7am), gets on we’ll with small dogs, has seen cats and is interested but not mad for them (ditto squirrels) and can be left for 4 hours (currently crated).
She would benefit from having another experienced hound around but would do equally well as an only dog.
She will need a ‘safe space’ to retreat to when things are too much for her and people who will give her the time to settle and to trust them. We’ve had her just over 3 weeks and the difference is amazing and more so every day now.

Kitty really is coming on in leaps and bounds now. She’s now sort of eating with the rest of the gang - I’ve used a stairgate to create a safe place for her to eat at the end of our hall. So sort or with the gang but still having space to eat on her own without being bothered by others asking ‘are you gonna leave that?’(the answer now is ‘no’). She’s still emptying the toy box and gradually transfers toys to her den - or takes them up the garden and drops them.
She now takes treats from my hand and comes up for a fuss.
Things can still freak her and she shoots back in the crate but now she gets over it sooner and comes back out to socialise.
I think she’ll still retreat back into her shell when she’s rehomed but with time and space to regain her confidence she’ll reward her people with her playfulness and love - as we are beginning to see.

Kitty is really coming out of her shell now and is playing with toys. She’ll still scoot back in her crate if things are a bit much for her but I can now close the crate door when she goes out for a wee and she’s happy to settle in one of the many other dog beds in the lounge. She no longer looks for and alternative safe place. And she’s found the doggy toy box - and almost totally emptied it. Many items have ended up in her den but the rest are littered around the lounge and she picks them up trots round with them.
She will still be a ‘work in progress’ for anyone but after 3 weeks she’s definitely more confident and outgoing.

Kitty is doing well (by Kitty standards). The world is a scary, bewildering place. She likes to stay safe in her big crate (with the door open) but she is showing more interest in what’s going on around her and is spending time out of the crate now too (without looking for an alternative safe place). She enjoys walks with our other hounds and walks nicely. She’s interested in squirrels but not silly about them. She’s met a range of other dogs, bikes, kids etc etc. She’s mastered the stairs now too and is developing kleptomaniac traits (a pair of socks, the tv remote and several toys so far).
Kitty will reward you if you have the time to let her build her confidence in a new place. She will probably shut right down again on rehoming (which can be quite scary as she’ll probably stop eating and even drinking for 24 hours). But left alone to acclimatise (she’s been with us just over 2 weeks) she will come out of her shell and pinch your tv remote too.

Yesterday I collected Kitty from Ruth's and brought her to Daybreaks where she was taken on foster in the afternoon. She travelled well and I hardly knew she was there. She is lovely and needs a her forever home, the best thing Santa could bring her xx

Kitty came home with me this afternoon. She travelled well and she’s found the HUGE crate we have for any (canine) visitors who like that sort of thing. She’s very quiet and didn’t fancy the dinner queue so she had two small bowls of food through the evening. She’s toileted outside with the gang last thing and gone to bed with a biscuit.

Any news on Kitty after her Op? Is she feeling better? Has she started showing her personality yet? Keen to know more about her. We are looking for Greyhound No4.
