Pickles

female, 20 years old, White & Black

Added by Emma-Rae

Updated: Monday 01 Jan

Pickles arrived today at the request of Head Office as she had been transferred from a Basildon RGT foster placement.
The reason for this is because she had been in a foster home since July 2009 due to a lump being removed from her eyelid for which she needs eye drops for, and it has therefore been difficult to find her a home.
Having lived in a foster home, she is house trained and can climb stairs.

Pickles has had 0 cuddles today (9 all together).
If you register or login, you can give her a cuddle too!

Pickles arrived at Daybreaks in 2009 after she had been transferred from a Basildon RGT foster placement.

Whilst in foster, she had had a lump removed from her eye and she needed ongoing treatment for this. Pickles found a loving and wonderful home with the Marshall Family shortly after arriving at Daybreaks where she continues to be loved and cared for.

Her eye has sadly deteriorated and it is now felt that the best course of treatment now is that her eye needs to be removed which is going to be done next week.

As Pickles was homed with this condition, we have continued to honor the cost of her treatment throughout however the quote for her operation alone is in excess of £700.

If you feel you can help towards this, please please donate. You can do this by clicking on any dog that is currently available for rehoming and there is a donate button on the right hand side or you can log onto JustGiving: http://www.justgiving.com/pickleseye

Hi, All going well, she has not been up the stairs today-good old water spray and a firm 'No'! Guinny is as good as gold with her, he doesnt have a harsh bone in his body, he is sooooo humble towards her. She is eating so well, quite at night and worn out with all the walks she's getting. She crys abit in the morning if i go upstairs and we haven't left her home alone with guinny yet, thats our only worry now, will keep you posted. She okay with chucks.

My beautiful Pickles.

I'm so so sorry to say that I am not allowed to take you home, my husband has said no and I have to accept that. It has broken my heart but hopefully you have a potential new mom coming to see you tomorrow. You would have fit in perfectly into our family but it is not to be.

Be good to your new mom, you will always and forever be in my thoughts and I have some photos of you when I came to see you yesterday which I will keep.

All my love, hugs and kisses

Hi Anna
I had 2 greys and then saw Cara (pearl) at the kennels one day and her and I knew we where meant for each other, even though I had not gone looking to increase my "pack" and hubby was definatly dubious, supported by Ruthie and Pam D WE TOOK HER HOME! (he realised he was out numbered and our marraige could be on the line if he didn't give it a go LOL!) needless to say he is totally won over and when we look on the site or go up to the kennels he often looks longingly at other grey's who catch his eye. You know you will regret it if Pickles doesn't go home with you!!!
She sounds like she would fit in easily after being fostered

Hi there,

Anna, we adopted 2 greys in the summer. We have a small house and 2 children and were worried at first if we had taken on too much, but I can honestly truely say that two is no harder work than one. They keep each other company when we are out at work and to see them snuggle up together on occasions is just so sweet. We couldnt be without them, and, heaven forbid anything ever happened we would not hesitate to have 2 dogs again. Kerry told us two is no more hard work than one and she was absolutely right! ahh, bet Pickles would be the best christmas pressie ever for Harry!! and to think she would have a home for christmas, good luck with your decision!x

Anna, i hope that you will be able to have Pickles to keep Harry company. i have got 3 boys myself and can't imagine not having them. i have always had 2 dogs- other breeds as well as the greys now- as i felt it was easier to have them in pairs, they are sociable animals by nature and like to be around their own kind and it made me feel less guilty about working full time and having to leave them. good luck and i hope that you will be able to give this stunning little lady a home in time for christmas. It's such a shame that she's been through so much and has become used to a home environment, but is now back in a kennel :0(
My hubby will be relieved to hear she's not cat-friendly as I've been dropping Pickles into conversation quite a bit lately ;0D

Anna She is adorable. Please come soon it would be fantastic to know that she has joined your family for Christmas, after what she has been through. Her foster carer rang on Monday to see how she was doing. She said that they thought that Daybreaks would be the perfect Trust branch to find her a forever home. She also said she was no trouble at all in the home, perfect in fact, but she doesn't seem keen on cats. She was ok with other breeds.

Absolutely fine with Cracker and Charlie they are not greys, who come up the kennels daily. (Cracker is a staffie Cross - they are in the most recent Grapevine!)

Has she been tested with other breeds yet? Still working on the hubby, I've said that we will loose her if he doesn't say yes soon!

Pam told me about this little girl on the walk on Sunday and I just hope some one can taken her into a loving home. She sounds a delight and as she has been fostered should be easy to fit in, especially with another grey in the family, I have 3 but am always looking with wistfull eyes at this website.
Any event where the Greys meet up in mass is lovely. I have had dogs all my life but I have never known such affection and obvious happiness that this breed exibit to each other when they meet.
Go on Anna, keep working on the hubby!!!

Hello Anna

Having two greyhounds is absolutely lovely, our two, Rose and James who we only adopted this year do keep each other company and James sure appreciates being with another greyhound. You would find I am sure that Harry and Pickles would love to be together and Pickles looks absolutely lovely. We found our Rose's personality came out when we had James she certainly livened up!.

We were a little worried about having two but to us now it would be difficult to just have one there all a lot of benefits to having more than one like the special moments when they rub noses etc.!

Also I can't bear the thought of the greyhounds not being rehomed before Christmas. Hope they all find a home soon.

Anna
She is such a quiet little girl. I am sure you wouldn't even notice her about. She has a lovely temperament .Two are much better than one, they keep each other company. As she is house trained and used to living in a house I am sure she wouldn't be a problem with your busy run up to Christmas. Your house would be big enough for her. What a lovely Cristmas present for her to be taken to your house and to be loved to bits. I am sure you wouldn't regret it

Oh I know but all these things keep going on in my head. Would the people who babysit Harry, when we occasionly need it, accept looking after 2 even if it is usually just over night. We are planning to start a kitchen extension in March, is it best to wait til after that to consider having another, as Harry is such a big boy, a second dog would need to be smaller! Also we have so much going on up to christmas it is only new year when our schedule calms down and she may have found a home by then!! My poor brain!! People who have more than 1 grey please help!!

Hi Anna, you must get Phil to see her - I know it's a long way but once he sees her he'll fall in love! She is the most adorable little thing! Em xxx

Thursday 03 Dec 11:56

I would love to have her but Phil is saying no :-( I shall have to do some more work with him. It would be handy to know what she is like with other dogs. I need as much ammo as possible for the convincing! If I can train Harry to leave the guinea pigs alone, I'm sure I can do that with her!!! I really would love to have her and so would Harry!

Hi Anna, just thought I would let you know that Harry has just been in touch with me..... he said he would love a girlfriend especially if she has the most amazing teeth too! She really is a poppet and you wouldn't notice another!!!! After all, what is one extra bowl and 4 extra legs eh? xxxx

Anna
It would be fantastic if you had her she needs to be loved and would be a great 'sister' for Harry. If you look on greyhound database there is a photo of her in a home.

Oh Ruth she is lovely, very tempted, will have to mention it to Phil tonight! A couple of concerns though, Harry is quite a big boy as you know so if I was to have another she would have to be one of the smaller ones. Also maybe in March/April we should be starting to have an extension to push the kitchen out so would it be too soon so have another? I'm very interested, the drops or the fact she may need other operations doesn't put me off! I think Harry would love a girlfriend to snuggle up to!

The eye drops will be long term at the moment as she gets dry eye if they are stopped. These apparently are about £4 each month but I will check this with our vets. We are going to introduce her to some small furries and different breeds over the next few days. I will keep you updated!

Hi,

Pickles looks very sweet. Has she encountered small furries yet, and how is she with small toddlers ??

Are the eye drops something that she will have to have long term, or is it a conditon that will get better ?
