Olive and Ruby found their forever homes with us between Christmas and new year 3 years ago.

Olive has always been nervous with people, but gets more confident all the time. She is excellent with all other dogs.

Unfortunately she had a nasty accident on May Day bank holiday, when she spotted a squirrel and ran straight through a wire fence. Fortunately she had her blizzard coat on, which probably saved her from greater injury although it got ripped across her chest where she went through the upper wire, but the lower wire sliced through her front leg peeling back the skin for several inches. Fortunately there was a Pets at Home close by which had a vet working on the Bank Holiday. Dick took off his socks to make a tourniquet while I ran to get the car and we managed to get her to the vets quickly. We knew things were bad when we saw the vet's face, but fortunately he did an excellent job at stitching her. After several weeks and many trips to our own vets her leg eventually healed although she now has a 5 inch scar to show for her exploits. Thank goodness we were insured. Needless to say it hasn't made her any less interested in squirrels.

Fortunately the rest of the year has been less eventful. She passed her Gold Good Citizen Award early in 2012. She's had several beach holidays and a hotel stay and has visited daybreaks a few times to give blood.

Happy New Year to everyone at Daybreaks.

Happy birthday Olive - 6 today. Celebrated with a run round Worcester racecourse and is now snuggled up in front of a log fire with a pig's ear - bliss. Love from mum, dad and Ruby.

Hello, Olive here. It's been 2 years and 2 days since I met my new family. I've enjoyed myself this year. It still takes me a little while to get to know new people, but I'm much more confident than I was. I really love meeting other dogs and especially all my greyhound friends.

I enjoy going out for walks and I specially love running in the fields and on beaches. My sister Ruby thinks that she's a faster runner than me, but I like to give her a head start and then I chase her and accelerate straight past!

We've had a couple of holidays by the sea and a stay at Bark Inn Kennels which we loved - sepecially all the home-cooked food, yum.

My human sister and her boyfriend live in the USA, but they have been staying with us over Christmas. I am half Australian (Honcho of course), one quarter Irish and one quarter American, so I was able to bark at them in an American accent. (Mum said it sounded just like my English bark.)

I passed my Kennel Club silver award in the summer, and I'm aiming for gold now. My favourite exercise is 'go to bed'. The only annoying thing is that I have to get off my bed so that mum can send me back to it. I love sleeping.

On Christmas Eve dad dressed up in a full Santa suit, dressed Ruby and me in our reindeer antlers (with jingle bells) and took us out for our evening walk! It was a bit noisy because people in cars kept hooting at us and shouting out 'Happy Christmas'.

Must go now, time for a snooze before the afternoon walk. Happy New Year to everyone. Love Olive x x

It’s exactly a year since we first met Olive. She was curled up in the back corner of the kennel and was very timid. She even flinched when we stroked her, but we knew straight away that we’d like to give her a home. The next day she and Ruby came home with us. What a difference a year makes. Although Olive can still be shy when she first meets someone, she’s now a bouncy, loving, confident girl and is excellent with all other breeds of dog. When she first went to Wednesday training classes she trembled and shook and wouldn’t leave our side, but now she loves it and can’t wait to greet all her friends, both doggy and human. She passed her Kennel Club bronze award in July, and was placed 1st in the Prettiest Bitch class at Box Trees Dog Show (the one in the rain!) We love both our girls to bits – thanks so much to Ruth for trusting them to us and to everyone else who has given us help and advice.

Olive is doing really well - getting so brave. She is eating well now and coming to us for treats. We had visitors last night and she stayed in the lounge with us and watched.... and learned..... Well done Olive. She has never had an accident in the house and is house trained and very quiet and gentle. She loves her walks round the park and is very good on the lead.

Olive is a beautiful little girl and yes, her trainer is right, she is shy, however when i sat in the run with her she did come up in the end to have a sniff and when i put her coat on she did let me do it quite willingly. with a lot of love she is bound to find her confidence and develop her personality in no time.xxx
