Happy 11th Birthday Blue, you were very well behaved on holiday and took it all in your stride.It was nice we could leave you loose to come and go as you pleased in and out of the awning,with no problems.Unlike Mr Ben the escape artist who has to be kept on a leash which is screwed into the ground,if we are not outside with him.Also he has discovered that he can unzip the awning door by getting his nose underneath and then pushing it up and then go on his own campsite inspection which involves checking out any caravan or awning he can get into to say hello to everyone and weeing up maria's rotary washing line! No such trouble with you blue, you were happy with some cuddles and your toy Cornish pasty you are a delight to have and we are very lucky to have you, all our love Dad ,Mum,Bryony and Ben x.

I've just printed off all the information about Pets As Therapy and I certainly think Evi sounds perfect for it although I did read in one part that one of the things they don't like a dog to do is "licking" for hygiene reasons - I understand this but our Evi just loves to give kisses to anyone she meets so not sure how we'd discourage her from that one! Anyway it's a brilliant idea and thanks again!

That's great - thank you fatharry and LindaPaul. I'm definitely going to pursue this as I know our Evi would be a hit with either young children or people in a care home etc - she's just the sweetest, friendliest little thing! I'll look into this and let you know, it's such a brilliant idea and I know that Evi and I would both love being involved in this!

have you considered becoming a Pets As Therapy volunteer with your grey? My Lola (Lass on here) is a PAT dog. We happen to vist a local care home but there are other opportunities including using dogs to encourage children to read. Check out http://www.petsastherapy.org/ where there are more details.
Blue & Ben are our girls' (Lola & Lena) best friends and they are both absolutely delightful so I can see how the children would have loved them. Linda x

I think it's such a fabulous idea. I wish we'd had that when I was at school-would've much rather stroked a Greyhound than hiding at the back of the class when the 'Animal Man' came in with the snakes! Mand x

Hi cinders,we got approached by our daughter who teaches there and obviously knows blue and ben.I have spoken to her and she says if you write to primary or special schools especially, they are more likely to have visits to benefit the children.She has to do risk assessments etc but the school can do a '99' check instead of a CRB check.This had me worried as Ive had more than a few 99's in my time,but luckily it has nothing to do with ice creams. It is very rewarding though and we really enjoy it,the children all at the window waving the dogs bye bye says it all. Go for it! If you need any help or advice Ruth will have our number or put a post on here.

Hi, I was just wondering how you arranged the visit to the primary school with your dog? I was just thinking how perfect one of my greyhounds would be for a project like this as she's so outgoing and so great with children. Just wondering! Thank you!

Blue & Ben,made another trip to Hatchford Brook school today to meet the nursery children, to help teach them how to look after dogs. The children took turns to brush and stroke them and had plenty of questions to ask us including how many teeth do they have? 42 I replied, luckily I googled it the night before! We covered feeding, coats,vets,ear cleaning,toothbrushes/teeth cleaning, shampoo/washing,vaccinations,vets,exercise/walking,toys and treats. The children loved them and the feeling it gives you is great,and reminds you how lucky we are to have them.

Ha! Pilchard Cake is very popular right now I guess because a few of us bought the A La Bark Baking book from the Galloping Greyhound Gourmet at the show. I'm going to try some different recipes soon... watch out for Christmas cookies next I feel......L,P and the girls x
