poor baby boy, try baby or small kids socks taped round his foot to keep bandages clean, if its wet you can slip a small plastic bag over the sock before you tape it round his ankle....get better soon Reubes...lots of love. xxxx

Oh no, now my poor darling has torn a nail out of his back paw.........daughter tripped over him in the dark on my bedroom.......blood everywhere and he is very tender. Thankfully he is still on antibiotics for his tail & nail came clean out so no panicky vet visit on Boxing Day morning. Just need to find him good paw cover to keep bandages clean when he toilets - all recommendations welcome.

Gent was exactly the same having his dressing changed (he's such a wuss!), but we found it easier doing that with two people - one at the rear with the dressings and one at the front with the treat jar! Not a squeak out of him then! Once his tail healed we used to gently massage in E45 cream regularly during the day to make sure the scar didn't dry out and then split if he whacked his tail against something. Hope you have a lovely Christmas. Mand x

Reubes Update:
First thank you for all your best wishes, I was gutted I had hurt my boy but he has most definately forgiven me. Its healing well, still on antibiotics as a precaution. Staples out next Friday all being well. Reubes is only occasionally trying to lick at the wound now the dressing is off, so I'm muzzling him when out & about. He cried a bit getting the dressings changed so I'm relieved thats stopped. My vet was worried that R would damage his tail further bouncing around, but my boy is truely retired and doesn't move for 98% of the day and very reluctantly walks for more than 10 mins!! Ha Ha!! Thankgoodness its just a tail injury and nothing like what poor Toby has gone through.

and me!! I shut Roy my first Greys tail in the porch door. Poor thing I felt sick, he was still wagging it still. My hall was covered in blood, looked liked I had commited murder. I was so upset, and he was not bothered. About 20 trips to the vets and £600 in fee's and about 3months later, and he was finally mended. I do agree it makes you so aware of where there tail is. Don't worry it so easy to do!! xxxx

Wednesday 21 Dec 12:05

Me too. I let the heavy wooden door in the church hall shut on Ruby's tail on the way into dog training, and then spent the next hour trying to mop up blood that she'd wagged everywhere. Fortunately after a trip to the vet her tail healed in a few weeks and like Gent everything is absolutely fine now. I felt dreadful at the time too and am still extra cautious around doors, but none of us would do anything deliberately to hurt our hounds - like Reubes it was just an accident, and from time to time they happen. Hope you all have a good Christmas.

Tuesday 20 Dec 20:00

I know exactly how you feel. The same happened to me with Gent, except it was my car window (actually it was on the way back from the Greyhound Gathering last year). I sobbed for hours, but he was such a star. After a few trips to the vet, we re-dressed his tail every other day for almost 3 months before it finally healed. It might take a while, but looking at Gent's tail you'd never know anything had happened. Mind you, it does make you treble check the doors before you close them in the future. Don't be too hard on yourself, it was an accident and Reubes will still love you. Take care. Mand x

Ooh, poor lad; I hope he gets better soon. It is easy to do, I almost wound the car window up on Twiggy's ear, luckily she squeaked before any damage was done! I am sure Santa will bring Reubes extra pressies to cheer him up! xxx

by LindaPaul

Tuesday 20 Dec 11:55

Ouuuuch... poor Reubes hope he is OK. I was talking to a lady at the Great Greyhound Gathering this year who had done exactly the same. Try to forgive yourself as I'm sure Reubes has already forgiven you and will love you just the same. Merry Christmas to you all from Linda, Paul and the girls xxx

Monday 19 Dec 21:39

Oh my poor boy, I'm so sorry about your tail. If I'd known it was still in the door I wouldn't have shut it. The vet says the skin is okay and hopefully will mend now its being held in place. You do look a bit daft with your tail bandaged to your leg, but its stopping you from wagging it into more damage. Once your sedative wears off you'll be your old self again baby boy. luv mum (distraught)

Sunday 05 Sep 23:41

Hiya, thanks for asking me, my beautiful boy is well settled. He rolled on his back for a tummy rub 2 nights ago - what trust!! He is so brilliant, I'm so in love.....We have been to training and it's going well. He is now confident enough to start thieving toys n bits n bobs to his bed-LOL- (door stops are a favopurite so far). The local kids are getting to know him, he is an angel when they come to pet him, so tollerant, I can't believe my luck. He is rather excited by other dogs n small furries, but a sharp "Leave it" seems to be enough in most cases to stop silly jumping. So all in all, fantastic, can you tell I'm smitten? Hubby says no to Grey no2, but I'm working on him. See you all at the Walk on the 26th Sept. luv t

Hi everyone, an update for you. Reubes has been brilliant, no accidents, learned the stairs this afternoon- oh dear dad will give me a row. I just put up my dog crate on Ruths advice for tonight, and he has climbed staright in and laid down. I'm having to use all my best coaxing skills to get him out he loves it so. We had visitors today, and he was a very good boy, only panted a little and lay on his bed the rest of the time. Still not eating, but I guess he can't starve himself. Ah, he is so gorgeous, I'm one lucky lady. luv t
