Thanks for forwarding my message, you're a gem! The boots showing on Amazon are from the company we usually get them from, but directly, so I'm assuming they will be the new stock. Thought someone might have a spare boot knocking around at the back of a cupboard somewhere (thanks SamA, Emily is a definite T/D size boot, but I'm very grateful that you checked), but it sounds like my little girl has teeny tiny feet!!!! I'll be on the cake stall at the show in October, so if anyone is able to help, Emily and I would love to hear from you. Mand x

Someone has just put on about Amazon having them (& 5 being left, but as I looked, there were only 3 left!)
I don't know if they are 'the originals' or the new 1s though :-(

Hi Mand, I thought I might be able to help - have a terra paw boot pretty much new that Dream couldn't get on with, but it's a T/E so likely too big. Only other suggestion is another boot, I saw a dog wearing these and she was so happy and comfortable and her owner highly recommended them - NEO- PAWs, they are pre-shaped so don;t need any wearing in like the terra paw - plus there sizes are much more diverse, you have to draw round the foot to get the measurements so possibly able to get a better fit. If you are over our way and want to look at the NEO PAWS or try the T/E let me know and I will take them to Aldridge on Saturday as we are doing a road show or the Dog show the weekend after. Sam x

It's a bit of a long shot, but does anyone have any Therapaw boots in size T/D that they no longer need. Emily has been wearing them for a few years to keep her comfortable on her walks with her corn. The company we get them from have recently had some supply problems with the T/D size and although they are now in stock, a change in manufacturer has meant that her usual size are too big (next size down too small). We are currently in contact with the UK company who are trying to sort out the sizing problems, but in the meantime Emily needs a new pair of boots. If anyone has a boot(s) in size T/D we are willing to pay for them and would love to hear from you. Thanks. Mand x

Happy Gotcha Day to my baby girl. Four years ago today we brought you home from Auntie Ruth's and you puked in the boot of my car! We quickly realised you had proper travel sickness and not that we scared you into baptising the car. Although those white hairs are appearing around your face, you still think you are a puppy and we forgive you the 5 am wake-up rooing every morning. You enchant everyone who meets you (usually by licking them clean) and we wouldn't have you any other way (a lie-in every now and then wouldn't be discouraged though Ems!) Lots of love to my little Emily. Xxxxxxx

HI Dave, Maria, Blue and Ben. Thanks for your really, really helpful post. Good to hear about the Isabella awning. We had been told about them by the man in the showroom, but weren't sure if he was just trying to sell us the most expensive! It's true you get what you pay for though and of course you can't get better than word of mouth recommendations! We're trying to arrange a long weekend rental in a motorhome, just to get a rough feel of it all before taking the plunge. Will have to look out for neighbours with cats though I'm certain our two wouldn't be so forgiving if they saw them! How wonderful that Blue and Ben were ambassadors on their latest getaway. Just taken a peek at the Spire FM website and found your photo. I'm guessing that Blue is the.....well, blue Grey and Ben is the black - he seems to be very interested in something that someone is holding to the right of the camera! As you say, I couldn't bear to leave my two in kennels, they are part of our family, so where possible, they are coming with us (otherwise they are staying with Grundma and Grundpa!). We've had so much fun together on the breaks away that we have taken together that we want to skip off with them at every opportunity and your caravan gives you the freedom to do that if you see a good weekend of weather approaching (keep an eye out folks, it can't be long now!). Thanks again for your advice, we'll keep you posted. Mand x

Hi Mand, firstly greyhounds and caravanning really do work together, and its great to be able to share all your holiday experiences together, and with a bit of planning and a few accessories makes it easy. We have been amazed how flexible they are when locations and routines change.I would say the choice of awning is probably the most important to consider,as no matter what size van you get, you'll be stepping over them.I would go for either a part or full awning. With these awnings you can usually add an annexe which we have found is brilliant for our two,as their raised beds fit nicely side by side inside, without taking up any awning space.Buy the best quality you can afford as it will save you money in the long run.We have an isabella magnum, which is a part awning, with a ventura annex, and have found it perfect. With part awnings if you change your van,you dont have to change your awning as it will still fit, saving you more expense. If you can get a van with an external electric socket on the awning side so you can plug in a fan heater to keep them warm if it goes cold. Ours either stop in the awning or outside on screw in pegs during the daytime, but don't have long cables on them just in case they see something they fancy! although they seem much more layed back on a camp site. We even had a caravan with 2 cats next door to us last year! and amazingly they were still alive at the end of two weeks. Other equipment we find very useful,is a beach shelter which we put a quilt inside, for when it is hot,you can use it onsite and beach. Also we have some coats made of white towelling that you soak in water, wring out and put them on damp these rapidly cool down the dogs,as recommended by Linda! At night we bring the 2 large cushions from their beds inside the van and they sleep on the floor quite happily,we dont allow them on the seats or beds! So I wouldnt worry too much about a layout to suit the dogs, although some of the ones with fold up bottom bunks could provide a useful space,if you did not want them down the centre of the van.The hardest part is trying to stop them sneaking into bed,Blue is often missing in the morning and is curled up at the bottom of Bryonys bunk bed! Everybody onsite seems to love Greyhounds and after Blue decided to have a run instead of getting in the car one morning, people actually asked us to let them run every morning around the caravan field,as they loved watching them run!Windbreaks are useful on the beach and stops other dogs walking up to them,Blue has been known to wear pink sunglasses! Obviously take their normal coats, bowls & stands. As Linda said we have just come back from a site, which was in the new forest called Sandy Balls [honestly] which I would highly recommend.Very dog friendly, nice walks, an enclosed dog exercise field which was nice and private and perfect for Blue and Ben.Also there was a pub close that served great food and welcomed the dogs in.Caravanning to us is the easy way to take your dogs on holiday as you can tailor it to your own needs, and not have to worry about unknown problems when you rent somewhere,or the expense of kennels,[thats if you could bear to leave them],but I am biased after 21 years of touring! Sandy Balls [honest] hosted the greener living show while we were there and Blue&Ben became one of the most popular attractions there, they had their pictures taken by Spire FM and are on their website,I suppose what I am trying to say is we love caravanning with our dogs, and it promotes greyhounds well. Anything we can help you with dont hesitate to contact us 01217455411 Dave,Maria,Blue&Ben x.

Hi Mand... Linda here (Lola & Lena). Have been ill over the weekend so just catching up with the last few days posts! As Deb said, Dave (Fatharry) & Maria .. that's Blue & Ben's mum & dad would I'm sure be willing to give you their ideas on caravanning as they take their two with them and from what I've heard they have been to some nice sites that have places the dogs can have a run. I'll drop him a text him and ask him to read your posts. They are often at the walks with us so you will recognise them I'm sure. They weren't at Waseley the other week as they were off caravanning near Bournemouth! x

Monday 30 Apr 17:19

HI goldie&ruby's-mum. Your comment was so helpful. The layout of the van you have sounds exactly like the one I'm keen on and exactly the bed I suggested for our two. It's right opposite the kitchen part, so I can just imagine them lying on their beds with their eyes at almost cooking height - they'd love it! I must admit ours have never wanted to climb on the sofa, so I was a bit worried about them realising that they had to jump up to their bed, but I suppose there's nothing that can't be overcome with a Dentastix in your hand! I've done a bit of research on some caravan sites too and was delighted to see that some of them have secure dog exercise areas, which would be a bonus to let them let off some steam. Thanks again for your post, you really do make it sound like a lot of fun, which is what it's all about. I really like the idea of seeing a weekend of nice weather and booking a quick weekend away for us all. Hope the weather is kind to you all this weekend, let us know how you get on. Thanks again. Hi Mand, Gent, Emily n I assume Dad!
We've had our van for 6years, 2adults n 2boys(thats hooman ones!!!) having camped since the boys were little, thought we'd go up market, it's fab. Now to caravanning with hounds, we adopted Goldie in Sept last year, with a 'we'll worry bout the caravan' notha day. Well that day came on March 30th, having spent most of the week stressing n worrying bout how it was all going to go, oh n forgot to mention that in January we adopted Ruby(Joan), yep thats 1 caravan, 2adults, 2 boy,12&15 and of course my precious girls!! We have a 4berth van with an end bathroom, we make the double bed up n use the single bunk bed for the girls! So off we went, with an extra large box full girlie goodies, quite how we packed everything, we're still not sure but we did!!
Arrived at the site, Kingsbury Water Park, fantastic place for Greys n not too far to travel on first trip. Set up as normal just put dogs on leads n hooked onto spike, they then happily watched proceedings. As for sleeping arrangements, well that was easy, boys in tents outside n girls in van!!!! When we're cookin or eating they snuggle either in the shower with a snuggly duvet, a fought after place, or snuggled on duvet in bathroom! We were away for 3 nights n it was fab. Thankfully we had no rain but it was chilly not that that was a problem, the girls kept us nice n warm!! We do have a small porch awning, so all girlie bits n bobs were stored out there, feeding took place outside as weather was nice though would have had room in awning if needed.
We're off again this weekend, n this time I'm relaxed in the run up, and I know the girls just love it, Ruby spends all her time watching the world go by, with Gold, well she just sleeps!!!
Please get in contact if you need any help or questions, it's a great way to holiday n even better with the girls
Mandy, Goldie n Ruby xxx

Sunday 29 Apr 19:10

Hi doonie. We've looked at adding a porch awning, but only to give us a bit of extra space for muddy boots and washing paws!! Wouldn't dream of letting our two sleep there though. We're looking at layouts that'll suit our greys as well as us. Other half now interested in a horse-shoe shaped dining area, which we would make into the double bed and call it Greyhound Corner, with us making up the bed out of the sofas at the front. Thanks for your advice, a total novice to caravans - thank God for the internet! Mand x

Sunday 29 Apr 12:01

hi we bought a tourer a few years ago to accomodate our very large lurcher & springer,we got a four birth but with an l shaped lounge to give the dogs more floor space to lie in,be carefull if dogs sleep in awning unless in a crate as no awning can seem to be made escape proof.xx

by Deb

Saturday 28 Apr 21:00

Hopefully Ben and Blue's dad will see your request as they regularly go caravaning.
I think warm PJ's for the dogs are essential and raised up beds if they sleep in an awning! Sounds like a lot of fun.

Saturday 28 Apr 20:35

Anyone got any advice or stories about touring caravans and 2 greyhounds. I blame the internet and a wet and windy weekend, but a trip to a local caravan sales place has got me curious. Found what looks like the ideal van (4 berth, 2 for us and 2 for Gent and Emily!) but have absolutely no experience and would love to hear your stories. Thanks. Mand, Gent & Emily xx

Friday 06 Apr 16:46

Isn't it just wonderful when you get home from your holidays and your greys literally jump into your arms they're so pleased to see you?! Mine had been spoiled rotten for 10 days with my Mum and Dad, enjoying afternoon (caffeine-free) tea with half a fig biscuit each and learning how to let Mum know when it was time for a cuppa, with a certain little girl even being allowed to chose if she wanted to sleep downstairs with Gent or upstairs in Mum and Dad's room. They've had so much fun while we've been away that they're still fast asleep on their beds as I type, an hour after we usually go for a walk. Don't you just love 'em! Mand x

Emily had another vet check today. Apologies to Fivelands, as our sweet little girl did a stinking big poo in the middle of their waiting room!!! Lady Emily likes to make her presence known everywhere she goes! She's still got a big bandage on, light walks allowed now (she'll be delighted) and then another review in just over a week. Mand x

by Mand&GorgeousGeorge

Saturday 07 Jan 13:27

Emily had her first check-up yesterday after her op and Christian was very pleased with her progress. She's got another new bandage (Shrek green - not as nice as pink!!) and needs another review on Monday. She was a little scared on the way home and did a poo in the back of the car! Not very ladylike at all, but looking back, she did the same thing when Ruth took her to the vets to be speyed, so she's just a little worry-wart. Anyway Daddy cleared it up (phew Mummy was still at work!) and she soon calmed when she saw big bruv Gent. Still no walks, much to her disgust when Gent gets his lead and coat put on! Mand x

My poor baby girl went into the vets today to have her corn removed. We had tried filing it down, but in the end, it was found to be larger than we could deal with. She's come home sporting a very bright pink bandage on her foot and leg, which sort of looks like a big pink wellie boot! Gent was very pleased to see her and sniffed her all over when she came home, before licking her ears. Thanks Ruth for your advice on the 'rubber glove' boot. No walks until after the first dressing change on Friday. Mand x

Just wanted to join everyone else in saying Merry Christmas to all the wonderful people we have met (and those yet to meet) since we have adopted our wonderful 'kids' Gent and Emily. We never would have guesssed how much they've changed our lives and we have made some wonderful friends too. Been in the kitchen this evening with my two 'helpers' making home-made cranberry sauce and Jamie Oliver's Get Ahead Gravy. Christmas....bring it on!!!!! Thursday 08 Dec 11:40

Hi Mand I got rid of a corn on Tiggers foot by sandpapering the hard top off then smearing it with Neem Oil (its anti fungal/bacterial : ) ), I put a bandage on her foot as the Oil gets everywhere and it helped keep the oil in place too- I did that everytime we came back from a walk and the corn went in about three weeks never to return :) My Neem Oil came from Neem genie but Ruth may have some ... it's a bit fiddly to do but usually corns are removed by the vet under anasthetic so worth a try first :) Julie x

Emily has started limping on her left leg - poor baby girl - when we're out walking. No problems at home and she's still bombing up and down the stairs! After some help from Mary at Webbs on Saturday (thanks Mary), we've taken a closer look at her and it does look as though she's developing a corn on one of her pads on her left foot (and possibly one developing on her right foot too). Any advice on how to deal with them at home, or are we looking at trip to the vets? Mand x

It's Happy Gotcha Day for our little pocket rocket today. Twelve months ago we picked Emily up from Aunty Ruth's house. Should have known what a little rascal she would be from the start - she was trying to climb Ruth's stairs only a few days after she'd been speyed and she does like to make her presence known at between 5-6 am every morning! She's bought lots of laughter to all our lives and I love her to bits, even though we are a bit sleep deprived these days! See you all at the Gathering next week. Mand x

Thanks Emma and fi-charlie-fly. She's been on rice and chicken since Friday and is getting better, although her tummy's not quick back to normal yet. We've had her on probiotics for a few days now too. Fortunately, she's stopped leaving us gifts in the kitchen! She seems fine in herself and hasn't stopped her usual galloping up and down the hall with her teddy in her mouth. Will probably start introducing some of her normal food now, I'm worried that she's starving on the rice and chicken (I would be after 5 days!!). Thanks both for your advice. Mand x

We have a similar problem with a lurcher and a trip to the vets confirmed a blocked anal gland and the baldness was due to over grooming in that area. She is fed on james Well Beloved and the vet suggested weetabix for breakfast (much to the delight of Millie )to increase the roughage in her diet.Although a lurcher Millie looks like she could be Emily's sister they are so alike!

Hi Mand, I used to work for a Plastic Surgeon and his wise words of advice to promote hair growth was always to massage the area lightly for several minutes daily with a light oil such as baby oil or aloe vera. We have worked on the real baldies and this seems to help.......

Also ensure her water intake is good as sometimes it can be due to dehydration - especially this time of year with the heating on she will need more.

Can anyone give me some advice on Bald Thigh Syndrome. Emily has always had a threadbare bum, which did seem to get a bit better a few weeks after we got her home, but in the last month, this has got worse and has now spread around to the sides of her thighs. She's always had a bald tummy too. She's being fed on John Burns complete food, the same as Gent, who I'm pleased to say has a lovely full backside, so I don't think it's anything food related. I have read up on BTS and it really wouldn't worry me, except that she seems to be losing more just recently. Don't think it's thyroid related, lethargy is one thing we could never accuse our little girl of and she's as much fun now as the day she came home! Just wondered if anyone could offer any advice? A quick update on our new arrival. No accidents in the house yet (thanks Ruth for the head start!) and she's just about starting to respond to her new name. Quiet as a mouse at night. She met 3 mid size dogs in the park this morning and was amazing. She started to whine a bit to start with, but big brother Gent gave a quick growl in her defence and she then decided that she had to meet them to give them all the once over, clever girl!! Emily looked adoringly at the lady with the dogs to get some fuss, while Gent worked out which pocket her treats were in (what a team, perhaps we should rename them Bonnie and Clyde!!). With no encouragement at all, she's already mastered the stairs and got stuck up their yesterday afternoon. Quite a different story this morning when she went up and came straight down again on her own. Gent still stands at the bottom of the stairs, don't think he can quite make out what on earth she's doing! Mand x

Hi LadyVictoria. I promise she was a lot better behaved yesterday when I saw her at Ruth's, even taking herself outside for a wee (long may that continue!!!) Bringing her home to us on Friday - can't believe how much I'm buying for her. After being outnumbered at home with Stefano and Gent, it's nothing but pink, pink and more pink for my little girl! It was lovely to see you earlier, you're such an affectionate little girl and kept licking my hand when I was fussing you. My Mom also got a little choked up when she saw you. I suspect you will be spoiled rotten by your Grundma! Mand x

Being an absolute poppet! Don't worry - it wasn't her who did a wee on the mat! I had to carry her back from the park where I tried to get her to do a wee before coming to ours after her op..... she did however do a big poo in the van on the way to the vets this morning and when I pulled over to clean it up, I knelt in her sick! Nice start to the day!

You knew it would happen one day Pam! We're going to call her Emily, as she's such a dainty thing and it really seems to suit her (plus it was my lovely Nan's name). Another recruit for the roadshows perhaps?? Mand x
