Just a quick update to say Lena is a teeny bit better than she was this time last week. When there’s enough motivation she can now get up on her own or she might just need a little help. Once up she’s wobbly until her legs start to work after five or six steps. We stay with her as occasionally she can trip and topple over but mostly she’s doing fine though she’s still on extra pain relief. We’ve got another acupuncture session booked for Wednesday so hoping this will also help as it did last week. Her back is still too sore and we love this gorgeous old girl so much all we want is to make her feel more comfortable. Thanks everyone for your good wishes xx

Thanks Kate. She’s very uncomfortable in her back struggling to get up and down and scared to move. Vet thinks she’s aggravated her existing spinal problem. So it’s additional pain relief and a waiting game. She’s not off her food thankfully but the challenge is to get her up every couple of hours when she really doesn’t want to..... the vet says the worst thing for her is to let her lie in one place for hours on end. Keeping everything crossed xx

Happy 11th birthday to our lovely Lena. Words can’t express how much Paul and I love you. You are such a special dog and have done so much to make us proud. Simply can’t forget your performance in the Obreedience send to bed at Crufts in 2016. The fact that you’ll now recall in the park having started to give chase to a squirrel is simply amazing! It might help that you are slower and wonkier that you once were but the spirit is still willing even if the body is not!
You still have a lot to teach that whippersnapper Peggy but have a day off today and think we might bake you a cake for later.

PS have discovered down side of Thera paw boots this morning...... she is not too careful what she stands in on the grass verge.......yuk! It's bad enough cleaning it off human shoes!!!! xxx

Manuka honey IS fab, Snipe. When I got Orla she had sores (some open) on all her legs and feet as she was a stray. I used Manuka honey on them and they healed beautifully. :-) Well.....I did after I bought another jar of it as 'someone' (aka Killer Jaws Bob) got the jar of 15+ strength off of the worktop (without breaking it on the slate tiles!) undid the screw top and ate every last little bit!!

When I was talking about the oil / heel cream, I meant I use it for Bob's corns to keep the pad moisturised.

Manuka honey works well and us antibacterial. You can get the ointment from vet or internet. Worked really well when our lurcher got her wound infected after leg amputation. X

Great that the dressings are off.....Bob has had (another) mishap and is sporting red vetwrap and spent 20 minutes lick lick licking it and growling every time I went near him. I even offered him some black pudding but he just carried on licking and didn't even look at the offering!
(He tore off 2 pieces of skin, both about the size of a 50p piece on a dead blackberry branch)

but now I am using unrefined coconut oil.
It's just something that is moisturising really (and that can be used with delicate greys) even the heel cream is good.

The Epsom salts is really beneficial though...if she won't be happy having her foot plonked in a measuring jug with an ES solution whilst you feed her treats :-) then just soak a cotton pad or something and pop it on her foot for a while.

Hi Clare. Lena has been miserable, because we've had to muzzle her to stop her chewing the dressings. Thank goodness when she went back to see the nurse this morning they have finally come off. Now she just has to get used to wearing her new Thera-Paw boots! She will be pleased that she can go out for a little walk now as well. We will be doing what we can to stop the corns coming back too.... xx

So you finally get to put your paws up. My paws are much better now. I even ran round the garden once the other night which is so unlike me. I had pretty pink bandages ( so unfair for a male dog). I hope u start feeling better soon. I am just starting to recover from my runny tummy & am now on chicken & rice. I won't be at training this week either as mum is in fear of her fingers as I am starving but only allowed small amounts of food at the moment. Hope to see u soon.

Our baby was at the vets yesterday for extreme chiropody. We finally have the answer that she did indeed have corns after months of on/off lameness and the darned things not developing as we'd all imagined. The vet has dug out 3 deep seated little devils from her front feet. She is sporting very fetching leopard print dressings on both her front feet. It's slowed her down a bit and today she is having a duvet day and is being allowed to keep her Lillypeeps PJs on all day. She now knows how her friend Rolo must have felt........
Sadly Lena won't be able to undertake her usual security guard duties at Melbicks on Sunday morning (and obviously can't delegate to Lola who is hopeless in this respect) , but I'm sure she'll be back soon......also in the short term she gets out of practising for her Gold Good Citizen test......she is gutted of course.... x

We certainly are very6 proud of her. She did very well and got there in the end! We always knew she could do it.....she just sometimes decided not to bother with the exercises and go exploring instead to see if she could find Julie's fluffy toys! I don't think I breathed at all during her 1 min down-stay! x

It is a distinct possibility...... Lola and Lena are getting on OK and Lena seems happy that Lola gets first choice of beds etc. She is a happy little girl who loves playing with the soft toys although several have now lost their squeaks as she is a bit more determined with them than Lola! We all had a nice walk yesterday morning at Arrow Valley park and the girls went home and stayed happily on their own for an hour while Paul and I went shopping. Quietly optimistic..... :) xx

Well look what happens when you pop in for a coat....! So far, so good.... Lena is a real sweetie and she has pretty quickly worked out that she can only lie on the beds that Lola doesn't want at any moment in time! Last night we didn't hear a peep out of her and she's been clean in the house. Lola totally unimpressed at being woken at 5.45 this morning so that Lena could have her toilet break ;( I'm sure she will soon explain that a lie in at weekends until at least 8.30 is the done thing in our house! So a good start and fingers crossed...... x

We met Lena today, what a lovely girl and what a great mum & dad she has. Lola looked pretty chilled with a new sister in her midst too! Well done Linda & Paul, hope you decide she is forever. luv t
