It is with great sadness that we have today said goodbye to Lucy. The cancer had spread to her lungs and was beginning to take its toll on her. We have so enjoyed looking after these past few months - a great character with a love of life and so loving. I wish we could have had more time with her, loved her so much. We'll never forget our lovely, loving Lucy. Sleep tight little one.

So happy for you Beryl (the peril..lol...I like it!) you look good together in the picture. Since moving house I haven't got your 'phone number, but if you can pass it onto Joe or my Mum, I'll give you a ring and have a natter! Big hugs to you all xxxx

Thanks to all for the good wishes. Lucy has settled in really well, gets on with the other 3, eats like a horse, 'talks' a lot which is hilarious and seems happy here. We all love her to bits and hope she will be with us for a long, long time.

Sadly Lucy's results came back that the mammary tumour removed was cancerous. The vets took away as much as they could and she could still have a while in front of her so I hope so much someone will give her a home for the last and most needy part of her life.

Thanks for the answer to my question Wispa's mum, had my greyhound for 2 years now and still learning about the work you lovely people do.

by DaybreaksRuth

Thursday 31 Mar 07:07

Hi Mutty22jaf, Lucy was homed by a member of the syndicate who owned her as a racer and therefore wasn't homed through the RGT. This is why she wasn't speyed already.

In answer to annie - mammory tumours are common in females who haven't been speyed and this is one of the reasons (other than unwanted pregnancies) that they are neutered before homing.

by mutty22jaf

Wednesday 30 Mar 22:30

Why was Lucy not speyed when previously rehomed? just curious. Get well soon.

by annie

Wednesday 30 Mar 21:25

what kind of tumor is that wispa's mom sorry if i seem thick is it treatable get well soon lucy your in good hands

Wednesday 30 Mar 11:18

Lucy had the mammary tumour removed yesterday, was speyed and had a few teeth out. She is a bit brighter today and ate her breakfast and has settled well.

by Winniethepooh

Wednesday 30 Mar 08:56

I hope that Lucy is ok, I feel very sorry that she has been returned especially at age of 11. I do hope that she can be rehomed and enjoy the rest of her retirement.

Best wishes

Tuesday 29 Mar 07:53

Lucy has been really good all night - she can go up stairs and slept all night. I am going to take her to the vets today and see if they can operate instead of tomorrow as planned as I am really concerned about the lump on her tum. Will keep you posted. She is very affectionate and really small - possibly only about 21kg. The photo shows how short her little tail is....

by lichfield_sam

Monday 28 Mar 23:21

Poor thing so many returned dogs it is heartbreaking.

Ruth perhaps you should close the kennels and let them all move in with you!!
feeding time must be interesting and I hope they all dont try and jump on your bed at the same time.

I have just checked Lucy all over and unfortunately I have found quite a large tumour on her tummy. Fingers crossed it is nothing to worry about.....

I have my 6 greys here, 2 holiday greys, post op Darcy and Zoe's 3 greys here this evening..... ummm... with Lucy that makes 13!!!!! She has curled up with all of them in turn.... she is such a poppet!
