Just catching up on the Daybreaks news and am heartbroken to hear about Bobby. Such a lovely boy. You gave him such a wonderful life after June passed away. He'll now be at Rainbow Bridge with June, my beautiful Bert and all our boys and girls we miss so badly. Run free beautiful boy. x

Oh Kate I am so very sorry to read this sad news. Bobby came to you in very special circumstances and you dedicated yourself to his care and did him very proud indeed. What a miracle dog he was and I’m sure he’s with June and reunited they are smiling together about the compassion of true friends, that’s you and John, Lyra, Skip & Fletch.

We had to let our beautiful Bobby go today. Xxx

He came to us last March after his owner June passed away. He was perfect in every way and an absolute pleasure to look after. Despite being diagnosed with Liver cancer last May and given just a few weeks...he proved to be the most determined and resilient lad ever, earning him the name of Lazarus by John and his friends. :)
He was able to go to Breen for the day with many Greyhound friends, had a holiday with us in Woolacombe, celebrate his twelfth Birthday and enjoy lots of walks with Skip, Lyra and Fletcher. He even found time to get himself a very pretty girlfriend called Gem! Xx

We take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with June who absolutely adored him as he did her. I know she would have been waiting for him at Rainbow Bridge with open arms, together again forever. We are so grateful she let us borrow her wonderful lad for a while. Xx

Bobby has just spent the week in Woolacombe with Skip, Fletcher, Lyra and my sisters Greyhound Max. He went on all our walks except one we thought might be too much for him. He has walked on the beach, over the hills and along the costal paths! He is a truly amazing and wonderful lad. Xxx

He spent the day at the kennels and was very spoilt..he had a card from his mates and a lovely pilchard cake made by Lucy which her shared with Skip, Ellie, Cello, Millie and manic Murphy! :)) There was enough left for him to bring home for Fletch and Lyra. After lunch he had a stroll up the lane. He also managed to find a bag of doggy donuts in my bag when I left him in the office before going home. He ate all of them! He is now crashed oit on his bed. :)) Sending him all my love and more, he is a very special gentleman. Xxxx

Bobby had a lovely day at the seaside yesterday :)) Not only did lots of his friends go but his girlfriend Gem came too, so he was more than happy! It was Jess's idea to arrange a day out for him to see the sea :) Bless her. :))

It was great to be able to take Annie and Thena, they have both been waiting so long for their forever homes so it was lovely for them to have a day away from the kennels. :))

The sun came out so we all had a paddle in the sea. :)) It did get very warm but we used the cars for shade. Richard lent Skip his knotted handkerchief to keep his head cool! The only thing they missed out on was an ice cream...the man went home before we could get any!! Maybe next time. Xx

Bobby has decided to stay with us and I am so happy! :)) I wanted to keep him after just a couple of days! We wanted to make sure he would be ok with having three other Greyhounds around, especially Lyra Nightmare and Fletch as they can be very loud and boisterous at times! He is fine with them all. :) I also needed practice at walking four dogs! :)) Bobby is an absolute star, perfect in every way. He loves to potter around the garden. I know in his previous home this was one of his favourite things to do; he liked to help June's gardener with his tasks. :) Hopefully when the weather gets warmer he will be able to spend more time outside. I love him! Xxx

Bobby accompanied Lyra and I to the kennels today. He had a lovely time in the sand run. He met a very sweet, pretty lady about his age and it was love at first sight! It was wonderful to see them running around together. Meanwhile Lyra was busy stealing Louis 's ball at every opportunity and getting sand all over her face. :) The sand run is great place to let your dog have a race around, especially now the warmer weather is here. Bobby has slept most of the evening, probably dreaming about his girlfriend! :))) Xxx

Sadly Bobby is no longer Reserved. Unfortunately his new Mom fell over at home last week and had to go to hospital. Thankfully she didn't break anything but will be in hospital for a while. She feels it is best for Bobby to come back to the Trust. We wish her a speedy recovery and thank her for offering Bobby a home with her. Many thanks to Jill and Paul for collecting him today and dropping him at the kennels....After eating all his tea and going for a walk with Skip and Fletch he is now curled up in the bed by the radiator in our lounge! Xxx

A big cuddle for Bobby tonight. We have had the pleasure of his company for the weekend. He is the most adorable boy, no trouble whatsoever he settled so well seems like he has been here a lot longer than a couple of days. :)) Got on great with my three, although Lyra was a very sulky girl when he first arrived...all changed today when he wanted to play, bouncing around with bottom in the air! She loves to play so she was more than happy to chase him! :)) Fletcher took it on himself to look after Bobby and stayed close to him on walks. Xx My sister came over this afternoon with her lad Max so we had five Greyhounds strolling around the garden enjoying the sunshine. He is back with Ruth tomorrow ready to go out with hopefully his new family on Tuesday. We will miss this lovely gentleman so much...Xxx

I am desperate for someone to offer a home to Bobby. Last week his owner very sadly passed away and I brought him home with me. He has had a whirlwind of a week with going backwards and forwards to the kennels with me, in and out of vehicles and living with Tigger pup zooming around. He has taken everything in his stride but this fella is used to a gentle quiet life and I this is what an elderly boy needs. He is clean in the house, gentle on the lead and very affectionate. Bobby has had an amazing night.... he slept well apart from when he found my work bag which had got the broken big bone biscuits I’d brought home for Tig and Lisa! The whole lounge was covered in crumbs so I can declare he doesn’t hoover!!!! He seemed very pleased with himself with lots of tail wagging! Once I’d got all the crumbs from my bare feet he toileted outside and happily went back to bed... it was quite strange that the candle we lit for his owner was still alight when I got up for him but had gone out by the time I came back to bed.... I’m sure his mum was happy he was ok x

Like Jetlucy, shedding a tear. What a sad situation especially as Bobby goes towards his twilight years. This situation will arise for many of us I guess as we age or sadly fall ill. I absolutely dread the thought of not having a dog in very old age but I also dread the thought of leaving one behind. My thoughts go out to any family this lady might have and I pray Bobby wont succumb to a broken heart. Remember Greyfriars Bobby for those of us from a certain generation who will have read the book. Thank God when ex residents find themselves in this situation they can at least come back to the love and care of Daybreaks. A small comfort for them in their hour of confusion and sadness but nevertheless a comfort. It is all just so very sad.

It was with great sadness I received a call late this afternoon to tell me Bobby’s owner had passed away.

I have therefore been to collect Bobby and thankfully he is not too stressed and has settled well at our house.

Many of us at the kennels knew his owner and we are all deeply upset.... she was a fabulous character!

Bobby - we will light a candle for your mum tonight.... she loved you so much xxx

My prayers I think have been answered! I took Bobby V out to a home yesterday on trial and I have just spoken to his new owner who tells me he is doing really well and 'just perfect' which we already know! He is going to stay on trial for a bit longer just to make sure but I think he is there to stay! :-)

Gorgeous Bobby V - please someone, give this fabulous boy a home. He didn't even pull on his lead when a squirrel ran in front of him on his walk this morning! He is totally house trained and would like a nice quiet home where he can eat, sleep, roach, repeat!

can i just say what a lovely lovely boy bobby is- i had the pleasure of meeting him first on wednesday and again today he came up and showered me with kisses and he is so sweet -i have no doubt in my mind that the right home for him is out there and until then he looks very settled on ruth,s window seat xxx

Bobby spent a while on the window seat this afternoon watching everything that was going on in the park! He is a fabulous boy - I hope he can find his own forever home very soon.....

When we have a returnee I am always asked why they have been returned. I am really hoping that my comment does not cause any upset to his owners if they read this but just hope that this will help Bobby find the right home and help avoid future incidents happening with any of the dogs we rehome.

I have had Bobby at home with me since he was returned to the Trust on Monday. Unfortunately he bit his owner quite badly resulting in the owner having to have surgery. This occurred whilst Bobby was on his bed.

It is a horrific and awful thing for the owner to experience and they are upset at returning Bobby who has been with them for 3 years.

Bobby has also bitten other family members on other occasions - usually whilst on his bed but on other occasions when frightened by a football and tennis raquet in the garden and also once when trodden on.

He has been absolutely golden at our house and we are just taking care to not disturb him on his bed or when he is asleep. This is something I endorse with every dog of every breed - they need to feel safe and unfortunately the only way they can tell us they are feeling threatened, frightened or unhappy is to growl or bite.

He is totally clean in the house, been great with all of our greys and good with other breeds. I feel he would be best suited to a home with just adults that ensure he has strict boundaries. We have a crate up in our front room for our post ops to go in and he has taken himself into the crate to sleep a few times so I could lend a crate to a new family if it helped. He also likes to take himself upstairs so likes his own quiet space.

It is a terrible thing that has happened to this family but equally sad for Bobby who has lost his home :-( If anyone needs any information about Bobby, please give me a call.

Due to certain events and circumstances Bobby's family are unable to keep him.

We are all naive when we first have our Greys and 4 Greys and 2 years down the line we are still learning!

Thanks for the comments they have set my mind at ease knowing that Bob's behaviour isn't any different from other greys. We are still learning and have been rather naive.

The other problem is that children sound very different to adults and they move more quickly so if a dog hasn't been used to children they can be scarey :( With time and patience and respect for the dog that usually changes and kids and dogs get along fine :) Have a look on the Kennel Club website for their 'safe and sound' which is an interactive game to show kids and adults how to interact with dogs safely and full of great advice.
I love 'growling' it warns me that the dog isn't ok with what's going on and I need to do something before the dog needs to 'shout'. J x

When we first rehomed our hound, she was not sure about the children and we had a few instances of growling at them when they gave her too much attention. Such a shame as all they wanted to do was love her! We were advised to make sure that she understood that she was below them in the pack hierarchy, so we have encouraged them to feed her. This has worked well and we don't have problems, but I don't think she'll ever be a cuddle monster, it's just not in her nature.

How wonderful that Bob is back with you.

We have an eight year old, and I've encouraged him to feed Chewey regularly and give him treats etc. He's also been told that when Chewey is asleep he is never to approach him.

Even with this Chewey is less interested in him than he is with us...

Not sure whether this will help or not!

Thank you for your positive comments. We made the wrong decision to send Bob back and we could have lost him forever if someone had turned up and given him a home. After the incident we felt that he would be happier in a quieter home. He has never really been that fussed for the children, which I can quite understand! He sniffs them and puts up with their fuss but not like with us, his Mum and Dad who could do anything to him and he wouldn't mind. Any ideas to encourage this bond with the kids would be welcomed. We had a terrible weekend without him, and felt very guilty that because one of our children decided to invade his peace, we punished Bob! Thank God nobody wanted him that weekend because I would have suffered a broken heart. He is my quiet, lazy baby and I wouldn't change him. We are thinking that maybe a pal would help Bob to be less nervous, he loves being with other dogs and we sometimes feel he is lonely of his own kind. Although getting a second is rather daunting, more so than deciding to get a dog in the first place.

...and if there is anything any of us can do to help then please contact the kennels as we all want the very best for our babies and are only too happy to help...good luck lovely Bobby, so happy for you. xxxx

Bobby's family contacted me today and told me they had made a big mistake returning him as they were missing him so much. They realised it was not Bobby's fault and asked if they could take him back..... I took him home and his dad collected him from our house - it was so clear to see that Bobby was over the moon seeing his Dad again and I hope all works out....

We met Bobby and his family when they first had him and obviously loved him to pieces. He had an amazing waggy tail and happy face. The gorgeous Bobby has been returned today. Bobby is house trained, gentle, cat friendly and very handsome boy. The family returning him are very upset because their children are too young to be able to give him the space and respect he needs. This is not Bobby's fault but because of this, he would now be suited to a home with older children. Please don't judge his family who have returned him because they are doing this to try and do the best for Bobby and they are very upset. We hope we can find him a home as soon as possible.

Well Bobby has been a very good boy overnight, slept all night with no accidents. He got up close and personal with the cats this morning and was absolutely fine. What a star! He is an absolute credit to his trainer.

The gorgeous Bobby is at home with me tonight as he is coming to Webbs tomorrow to show everyone how beautiful he is, and hopefully find a forever home, so far he has met my 3 non greys, as well as my 6 greys, 5 chickens and 3 cats, so far so good. We have only had 1 accident and he has had a run around the garden, photos to follow. He is such a happy boy and will be a fabulous pet.

This boy is the happiest greyhound i've ever met, his tail never stops wagging (even the vet can't make it stop). He love people and other greys, he always had a girlfriend and likes to cuddle next to them. He can make a you smile even on a sad day. He gives kisses and love for free x x x x
