Twiggy (Lady Victoria)

Our beautiful Twiggy has gone to Rainbow Bridge today. She has been fighting Arthritis and Liver Disease for the past two years but it was Cancer that finally defeated her.

We are completely devastated and heartbroken but so grateful to have had Twiggy in our lives for the last eleven years. She was our best friend and never ceased to make us laugh.

We have so many wonderful memories of her; ok, she never quite mastered getting on with other dogs but she adored people and had lots of friends.

She has never spent a night away from us and we always went on holidays together. I will never forget the first time she saw the sea and ran on the beach and the first time she played in the snow, using her nose as a shovel to scoop it up! :)

Our heartfelt thanks go to Christian and Donna from Fivelands Vets, who came out to us today so we could say Goodbye to Twiggles as she lay in her favourite spot in the garden. Even the sun came out for her. :)

I am sure my Dad has already met up with her and they have been for a walk together. Going for walks was what she loved more than anything.

Goodnight sweetheart, we love you and miss you more than words can say. Please meet us all at Rainbow Bridge.

Twiggy, Skip and I attended a Coffee Morning at Hodge Hill United Reform Church today. Each month they donate all proceeds from the event to a chosen charity and this month it was held in aid of The Retired Greyhound Trust and invited us along. We had a lovely time and everyone was so nice. Twiggy and Skip loved all the attention...and cake! They made many new friends and there was a lot of interest in the Trust and it's work. We also have some donated tins of fish to add to the world record attempt on Sunday. :)) Xxx

John gave her a tangly twist yesterday, she usually takes it from you using her front teeth but because they have sadly been extracted she was less than impressed when it fell out of her mouth! hope twiggy is feeling better. when we had tia she had 20 teeth out the first time and then another 10. didn't know they had so many! was remarkable how quick she got over it though. bad first night then almost back to normal and could still manage dental chews! hope it's the same for twiggy. sending her hugs. xx

My poor little Twigglet is feeling very sorry for herself tonight. She had a dental today and sadly had to have 13 teeth removed. Her vet tried to make me feel better by telling me he had to remove 34 teeth from another Greyhound earlier this week and she has done well to get to ten without having to lose more. I still feel bad for her as she looks so uncomfortable. Skip did his best to cheer her up when she came home and gave her several kisses...don't think she was too impressed! Sending my beautiful girl my cuddle tonight. Xxx

I had a call tonight from Chris, Twiggy's vet. He gave me the wonderful news that the results from the growth in her spleen have come back all ok. He said there was lots going on but nothing to worry about. Yippee!! So far so good with her new bladder too, no wet beds! As I write this she is sleeping next to me on the sofa....beautiful! Xxx

Twiggy slept better than expected...but we had to give in and let her go up the stairs as she just wouldn't settle, after nearly eight years its hard to tell her to sleep somewhere else! Did own up to the vet this morning, he agreed to give in to her too!! He showed us her new bladder on the scan. He is very pleased with how it is looking today. She has spent the whole day sleeping....no change there then!! Xxx

After what has been one of the longest days of my life, Twiggy is back at home with us. Following an operation which lasted over three hours she is now minus a spleen and has a reconstructed bladder! Chris, her vet is very pleased with how everything went and is hopeful the growth was benign. She is a very sore little girl tonight. Thank you so much for all the lovely comments of support they really do help. I must say a big thank you to Ruth and everyone at the kennels today...especially Sara and Lorraine for doing their best to cheer me up with their impromptu duet! Sending my cuddle to my beautiful Twiggy. Xxx

After a long day at the vets Twiggy has taken herself off to bed! We had mixed results from her tests...she didn't have to have a general anaesthetic which was good. The ultrasound revealed she has a pelvic bladder which I understand means the bladder is not in the normal position. This along with her age is what has been making her incontinent problem worse the last few weeks. There is an operation which would help this. More worrying the scan also showed a growth in her spleen. The vet has advised it will be best to remove it as soon as possible as there is no way of knowing if it is harmless or cancerous. The good news is that all her other organs look fine, no sign of anymore growths. Many thanks to everyone for all your best wishes and concern. Giving my cuddle to my beautiful girl tonight...Xxx

Hi Lady V. We're not too bad thanks. Jak was almost the first greyhound to get an ASBO this morning. He's been more lively out since being on the Yumove and he saw his first squirrells in months right outside Castle Bromwich Hall. Lets just say there won't be any guests late for breakfast today. Thinking of going on the human version Imove as the cold weathers agrivating my joint probs which is why havent been coming up the kennells. I know it's very selfish but if my knee gives out I won't be able to walk Jak. Great if it works but if I start chasing squirrells and cocking my leg i'll have to have a rethink. Lol

In case I don't get access to a computer again this side of Christmas, I wanted to say Happy Christmas to all at Daybreaks, hounds and humans, to all the Greyhounds who have found loving homes this year and their owners and to all who contribute to the Daybreaks website; even though sometimes the news is sad, such as today with two lovely hounds being returned, there is always somehting that makes me smile and to see the rehomed sign appear on each of the dogs' pictures is fantastic! As to Mindy I feel miss may not be the word (more than that). But I will have to move on and we have her lovely daughter who in many ways takes after her.

Hi Sylv, so sorry for not replying sooner. I have been off work for the last three weeks having some treatment on a gammy leg! Unfortunately we don't have a computer at home at the moment; I have really missed being able to see what has been going on at Daybreaks. It was so lovely being at home with Twiggy; she is well except for managing to get her ear stuck on a rose bush yesterday! All ok today. I hope Flossie and Minty are well. Has your vet asked you to take in anymore needy hounds? I wish I could think of something to say that would help ease the pain of losing your beautiful Mindy. You must miss her so much. That's sooooo lovely I feel a bit teary now. But I can totally understand that feeling and that's probably why the teary thing. I love seeing our girls every morning even if they are such sleepy heads and can't be bothered to lift more than an eyebrow to say hello!
(I so don't get this early waking thing that other owners have with their greys :) ).
We are beginners compared to you Kate (14 months since we had Lola) but I wish you many more happy and special years with your beautiful girl xxx

Five years ago today John and I adopted Twiggy. I can still recall how excited I was coming to Daybreaks to pick her up; finally being able to have a dog of my own was a dream come true. I spent most of the day just looking at her! Five years later I still look at her and can't believe she is mine. Hi Em, I had to laugh at the thought of you carrying Sadie home from the park! Poor girl, wasp stings are not nice. I hope it wasn't too far to walk....still a good bit of weight training I guess! Kate x

Ha ha, what a drama queen! I've got one of those too - Sadie once got a wasp sting on her thigh - she screamed the place down and I had to carry her all the way home from the park! At less than 25kg I'd always considered her petite but I soon changed my mind after that endurance event! Em x

Hi Kate, Mindy not long back from the love of her life. Things going as well as can be expected with some improvement, but she is still full of life if only on three legs.

Hi Sylv, sorry for the confusion about Teddy's leg! Twiggy is still taking the Propalin but we have been able to reduce the dose to just 1ml a day which is good news. She sometimes has a little accident in the night but just a few drops. Her vet is very happy with the improvement; like Mindy, Twiggy also enjoys going to see her vet....has Mindy been to see the love of her life yet today? Kate xx

Hi Kate. When I first read your latest comment I nearly had a shock (I was reading it without my glasses, seeing Twiggy loosing a leg, but read Teddy) thank goodness. Otherwise I take it Twiggy's problems is well under control.(with the help of Propalin Syrup)
