My brave boy crossed the bridge yesterday after a short illness. My faithful, loyal and loving companion had survived immune mediated disease, leukaemia and steroid responsive meningitis for three years, and latterly kidney disease and high blood pressure, but succumbed to accute hepatitis. He was a happy boy to the end, still enjoying his walks as late as Wednesday evening. We are all devastated

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Macca! xXx

If kennels don't get a proper date (only month) with the paperwork, the 1st is always used.

My Bob's said 1st, but he was born on 25th.
(For anyone else with a hound with a birthday on the 1st, try googling their racing name......some sites such as Sporting life give their date of birth)

We always watch Supervet and when we saw a greyhound on last nights programme we just hoped it wasn't going to be anything too sad! What a clever way to see the corns,Noel Fitzpatrick deserves a knighthood for his hard work and dedication to animals!

Just for anyone who missed it. It was a greyhound that was limping badly on both her front legs...there wasn't any corns visible,
so he put a blob of toothpaste on each pad, and gently brushed the pads with a wet toothbrush. When he wiped the toothpaste off, the corns were clearly visible. So very simple...and very clever !!!

Poor Macca... sending him my cuddle today. You have our sympathy as we've been through it with Lola who had to have a toe amputated a while ago now. It's such a worry but I'm sure he will be just fine in the fullness of time. It took Lola a while before she was completely comfortable, so I hope Macca will have a good recovery and given time I'm sure he will be just fine. It's early days and assuming that he will be on painkillers post-op I'd expect you will see an improvement within the next few days.

Very good advice maccasmum - I am just doing an article for the Grapevine about Nancy the greyhound who was kicked by a horse and had horrific injuries but luckily survived.

Wednesday 18 Sep 09:32

I'm sure I'm speaking to the wise, but please take care in Sutton Park when the ponies are about. Macca got too close on Monday (our fault - I suppose we got complaisant) and was kicked. Very fortunately, he only has a bruised shoulder, but it could have been so much worse.

by maccasmum

Friday 15 Feb 13:52

Update on our wonderful boy - having spent 6 weeks not being allowed off his lead due to torn tendon in his toe, on his 2nd time off lead he damaged his shoulder, so back on the lead again! He's completely mad off lead! Other than that, he's incredibly loving and gentle and makes us so happy xxxx

Took my birthday boy to pets at home in Tamworth to buy some pressies - all going great until he saw the rabbits in their pen! He was transfixed - stood trembling from head to foot with excitement, licking his lips. He took a bit of persuading to move away (had to keep a tight hold on the lead and the house collar just in case). Think we may have overdone it with the ball games in the park, then training class plus extra treats and his favourite sausages for tea. He had a bit of tummy ache last night and is still very tired this morning - a short walk, I think, this morning plus a restful snooze til lunchtime. xxx

Happy Gotcha Day to my beautiful, big, black boy. Macca has taken over our lives completely - just at it should be - and he is absolutely perfect (weeelll, the recall still needs a bit of work!). Macca is doing fine after his dental work - Andre has looked after him wonderfully. That should be all the dental work completed (to Macca's great relief). He's been a bit subdued for the last couple of days, but now getting back to normal. He's turning out to be a bit of a water freak - loves wading into the pools in the park - this morning he tried sniffing a leaf under water - probably won't do that again! His coat is now hanging up to dry!

by maccasmum

Wednesday 16 Nov 12:17

I forgot to post the most important bit! He's going to have another 3 teeth out tomorrow - hopefully that will be it then, so we'll be able to get into a routine to keep his remaining few clean and sparkly!

by maccasmum

Wednesday 16 Nov 12:15

Just to let you know that Macca is wonderful (but u knew that already!) He is soooo loving, nothing he likes more (except food of course) than a good tummy rub! Really enjoys his walks in the park - gets a bit tired if he's out for more than an hour and a half. Recall is getting better - but still wouldn't trust him off the lead yet. He likes to go into the water in the park, but doesn't know what to do once he's in! He really, really loved going to Aldridge to have a run. All in all, it's a joy and a privilege to be able to give him a home - he gives so much joy and love back. Thank you for letting us have him. Jackie xxx

Thursday 13 Oct 13:38

A quick update on Macca - he is still perfect!! He has put on 2kg in weight in the last 2 weeks, having lost 2kg in the first 2 weeks of being at home, and is recovering from an infection in his gum from when he had his teeth removed BUT - he is happy, healthy, lively, beautiful, loving, fussy , VERY nosey and absolutely incredible! He has completely taken over our lives and is thoroughly spoilt - just how it should be. He loves his walks in the park twice a day, it's certainly keeping me fit. I just wish he'd sleep a little bit later at the weekends - 6.30am is fine in the week, but I need my lie-in! We will see you all at the show on Sunday - can't wait to see everyone. Love Jackie and the rest of the Blunn clan

Friday 30 Sep 12:49

Had to lift him in - no easy job - but no trouble getting him out again!! He has come through this very well - couldn't understand why he only got scrambled eggs for tea - where was the rest? Back to normal now - full rations, walks, cuddles etc etc how it should be. Loves lying in the sun, and has discovered the delights of paddling in the stream in the park. Hope all went as well with Gent and Wispa as it did for Macca. The Blunn family xxxxx

by Mand&GorgeousGeorge

Wednesday 28 Sep 12:27

I can sympathise, our boy Gent has to go in to have a lesion removed from his leg tomorrow and we've got to starve him from 7 pm tonight - he's gonna hate us come tomorrow morning! Hope Macca gets on okay and you managed to persuade him to get in the car with love and kisses instead. Mand x

Big day for Macca today, he's having some teeth out. He thinks I don't love him anymore coz he hasn't had breakfast - he keeps looking at me with those wonderful soft eyes - he can't understand it. Getting him in the back of the car with no food reward may be quite interesting.....

by maccasmum

Wednesday 21 Sep 09:54

Macca is an absolute star!! Loves his walks - now without his muzzle as he's so good with other dogs. He still has this "thing" about his bowl stand - he has a brilliant appetite(!), but won't eat from his bowl unless someone is holding it for him. It's the same with his drinks, only worse! He won't drink from his bowl at all, but will drink if you put water into your hands and offer it. Isn't it odd??? Other than that, he is a happy boy, adapting very very well to being a much loved member of the family. He loves playing in the garden where has discovered the pleasures of digging. Love to all Macca's friends at daybreaks, Jackie B

Friday 16 Sep 16:17

Hi all! I've been sooo busy! Been out on lots of lovely long walks in the park and have met all sorts! Cows and horses - too big, ignore them, big dogs - ok (I think) small dogs - not worth noticing, medium sized dogs - they all seem to roll on their backs and submit! rabbits and squirrels - interesting, may be worth further investigation. Mum and the family are really pleased with me 'coz they've left me on my own and I haven't destroyed anything. I've had a couple more wee accidents, but they're coping with those (who's counting anyway!). Visiting cat is getting a bit cheeky - he sits on the stairs and looks at me. He knows I can't get to him with the gate shut. Mum's just given me a ball of meatpaste to eat - I suspect there was something unpleasant in it (Mum: wormers!), but the paste was lovely anyway. Just resting before my evening constitutional. Lots of love xxxxx PS Sally would like to know which days Aimee is at college - she would like to meet up.

by maccasmum

Thursday 15 Sep 09:49

I don't think it's that, he's not actually going close enough to knock against it. I'm making sure that there is plenty of water in his Burns so that he doesn't get dehydrated. He eats better at night than in the morning. I'm wary of doing anything that will disrupt his eating - he needs to put on some weight. On a brighter note, he is an absolute angel around the house. When we eat, he tries it on a bit at first, but then he lies down next to the table and waits for us to finish.

Thursday 15 Sep 09:22

Hi I realised my Lucy's metal ID disc was clattering against her dish and she was leaping backwards then dashing forwards again to her food (not going to miss her grub bless her) could it be something like that? J x

by macca

Wednesday 14 Sep 14:38

Mum says: Thanks for the advice, I'll be over to get some as soon as I can. He has a bit of a 'thing' about his bowl stand - he is only eating and drinking if we hold his bowl for him! I think we'll tackle this issue when he's had chance to put a bit of weight on. Macca says: Oooh I do like a good book, there are so many pages to play with!! Mum left me for half an hour today - I wasn't too pleased and had a bit of a bark, but I eventually settled down.

by Darryl

Wednesday 14 Sep 10:36

Jack has had a couple of wee accidents. Daybreaks have some stain/odour remover which seems to work perfectly well. x

by fi,charlie,fly+Lucy

Wednesday 14 Sep 10:32

Hi macca, if your mum can make it to the kennels tell her to buy a fab product called simple solution, this will remove the stain and the odour which will help stop repeat offending in the same area. If you havbe a poorly tummy, stick to burns and add some white rice. This will help your tummy lad xxxxx

by macca

Wednesday 14 Sep 09:59

Saw my first rabbit in the park this morning - didn't know what to make of it! I just stared. I had an accident in the lounge where I sleep last night. Mum says it looks like my tummy was a bit upset and that may have caused it. Is she right? Otherwise I've been a very good boy (apart from barking at the milkman at 6.15 this morning, but hey what can you expect). Mum asks whether you have any tips for removing the stain from the carpet?

Monday 12 Sep 18:37

Just told my family in no uncertain terms that i DO NOT need another walk today! I retreated to my duvet once my collar and lead were on and refused to move. I have been playing in the garden a lot today, and I had an extra short walk when I picked Sally up from the Blue Cross. I'm far too tired to go out again. I think they've got the message

by macca

Monday 12 Sep 17:55

Mum says: thanks to Ruth and Fiona for the advice, a lump of cheese waved under his nose and then placed in full view in the back of the car did the trick (twice at least!). Macca is having a lie down after playing fetch in the garden. He cheats! He brings the ball indoors and puts it on his bed.

by fi,charlie,fly+Lucy

Monday 12 Sep 14:10

Hi macca,.. This is something that takes time.. If he always associated getting in the car with going somewhere nice or for a nice long walk he will soon jump in, try putting just his front legs in and hell soon get the hang of it xxxx

by macca

Monday 12 Sep 13:34

I don't like getting in the back of the car (it's an estate) - Mum is having to lift me in; and I'm not a small lad! I'm fine once Im in, and I get out ok, any advice for Mum before she puts her back out?

by macca

Monday 12 Sep 10:02

Hi all, I had a very good night - I was very tired so I slept well and didn't disturb the family. I've had my walk this morning and I'm now taking it easy on my duvet. Didn't want all my breakfast this morning tho'. Loads of love, Macca xxxx

by macca

Sunday 11 Sep 19:23

I haven't sussed those stairs yet - they don't go straight up. I don't need to go upstairs anyway if they'll all come down to me if I whine in a pathetic enough voice! Had my first little 'accident' (ooopsie!) today. Mum wasn't too pleased 'cos she'd just taken me in the garden. I thought it was too windy so came straight back in again. What's the big deal? Macca xxxx PS so pleased to see so many of my friends reserved or rehomed

by Deb

Sunday 11 Sep 12:16

Oh Macca you have a lot to learn a bed in the middle of the lounge is the best place to sleep I think not mummy's bed upstairs is far more comfortable love Milly

by macca

Sunday 11 Sep 10:31

PS THE best place for my bed is right in the middle of the lounge floor - I couldn't consider sleeping anywhere else. And I want to play with all the animals I see - the squirrel ran away and the visiting cat doesn't seem interested; he disappears veerry quickly. Apparently he still sleeps on the beds upstairs (shut in of course), and the family have to be very careful when he comes in and goes out. Bye for now, Macca xxxxxx

by macca

Sunday 11 Sep 10:13

I had everyone up at 5am today (I just made a few odd noises by banging into things and down they came! I whined a bit during the night, but I was a very good boy and didn't have any 'accidents'. I had a 'mad 5 minutes' round the garden at 6.30am, then a rest before breakfast, then another rest after breakfast, then a walk in the park. I've been watching Mum prepare dinner (boring!), I hope we're going out to play in a bit. I don't like Mum going out without me so I bark (I'm wondering whether to try this at night!!!).
