It’s with great sadness that I have to tell you that our miracle girl Ruby Roo made her final journey this evening.
20 months after her diagnosis and being told we would be lucky to have a good 2 months she proved she was a fighter!
She celebrated 2 more birthdays, lots of trips away in her beloved wobble box including 2 holidays in Cornwall. Oh and lots of adventures in Winnie the camper am as well.
She ate like a queen for the 20 months, whatever she wanted she got, sadly this week she almost stopped eating so we made the hardest decision ever. Right up to the end she wanted to head outside for her ablutions.
She fell asleep lying In Her bed, in the conservatory, snuggled in her jarmies under her special blanky.
Sleep tight my little pocket rocket, a piece of my heart has gone with you BUT we will remember all the good times xxxx

Well what a weekend, knew things were going to be different when the kitchen became full of boxes n bags, got a bit tricky to get to our beds! Anyway they all arrived home on Friday from school, next thing we were in the car, oh we means me n my sis Goldie, she can be a bit grumpy sometimes, anyway not only were we in the car but behind the car was this BIG white thingy, a caravan apparrently. So off we went, when the car stopped it was action stations, never seen anything like it before, they even left us in the car!! Soon we were allowed out n wow, we were taken into "the caravan" n their were our beds, blankets AND toys, amazing! Not only all our lovely things but theirs too, this looked good as I was abit worried they might be leaving us, not good as I love them loads and like to know where they are, if I can't see them, which is best by far! Well now I'm rambling so had better tell you what happened. We stayed at a lovely campsite, grass everywhere lots of trees, n what do tree's have, YESSSSSSSSSSSS squirrals!!!! So spent all weekend walking, snoozing oh n watching squirrals AND rabbits, bonus. There was a downside to all this fun and that was CHILDREN, yuk, don't mind my 2 but then they're big sadly the little ones make horrible noises, thankfully mum let me snuggle on sofa, though best place was the shower!
So we're now back home having had a faberoooooo weekend, mum n dad keep saying how good we were, we know that, that they had alovely time and we were good, yes wew know that. So our first holiday in the "Van"is over, nice to be back home but can't wait to go again!!!!

Why do they always learn the naughty habits ... never the good ones LOL

by LindaPaul

Friday 16 Mar 13:22

Ha... Goldienruby'smum ... you should count yourself lucky... :) within the first 3 months we had her, our second greyhound girl (Lena) found and chewed 2 pairs of my glasses (not to mention 2 mobile phones). Lola (our first) had never put a paw wrong was beyond all of that nonsense (or so we thought)..... until we'd had her 18 months when she decided to attack and destroy the lounge curtain tie-backs (you know the sort with the nice big tasselly end which are great to hurl around the room)
Moral of the story... never be lulled into a false sense of security !!!

Right thats it after days of threatening, Ruby(Joan) is being returned! she ran off with my Cath Kidston glasses case this morning, bad if you live in this house but even worse it had my glasses in and trust me I AM BLIND WITHOUT THEM!! Thankfully they were found in one piece. The disgraced girlie is now curled on her bed looking VERY innocent, wondering what all the fuss was about, thankfully for her she is loved SOOOOOOOOO much that there is no chance of being a returneeee but we like to keep her on her toes, mmm think that might be the other way round!! Right time to feed the girlies n head out for a walk. Happy Friday everybody xxx

Monday 12 Mar 10:47

Well, Ruby has been with us for 7weeks now and this morning all hell broke loose!!! Thankfully in a good way. Ruby is complelty MAD, she plays for hours throwing toys in the air, running off with anything she can find n generally causing chaos. Goldie just lie's there looking on in disgust, a few times she has tried to play with Ruby but Ruby then decides not to play! However this morning it was All change, lets all play n even better lets do it on top of mum lying in her bed!!!! I can honestly say I have NEVER seen anything so funny, I knew they would love each other in the end, now just need to master sharing a sofa!!

Well we're now a 2grey family, not bad seeing as 5months ago we had none! Can't believe how we've been taken over but it is FANTASTIC, so big thank you's must go to Jill n Paul who gave us so much info about greys that it convinced us to visit n reserve Goldie, our beautiful, quiet, calm golden girl. To Ruth who is always so welcoming n knowlegble about all the greys at Daybreaks, it's such a treat to visit. To all those people who write on here, answer questions n generally support, it's fab. N big thanks to Kerry who let us take Ruby(Joan) home to see how the girls got on, she's now a fully fledged member of our family, Ruby that is not Kerry, lol, she small, black, a cuddle monster and completly MAD but we love her loads n even younger but definately wiser sister, gold, is starting to love her!! So THANK YOU THANK YOU to everybody who has anything to do with Daybreaks, you are all amazing xxx

Hi Rosie
When I go camping for a week my gear goes in the very back of car then I layer coolboxes in the footwell of the back seats plus dog beds, sleeping bags and anything else I can need to take then dogs go on the top :) I stop more often than usual to give them a wee break and leg stretch but I'm sure they'd rather be a bit 'packed in' than be left behind :) J x

Wednesday 01 Feb 21:05

Hi Rosie
I can fit my two girls, Darla, Bess and one boy Blue in my peurgot 306 with the seats down. The luggage can go in the foot well behind the front seats also as Fi has said a thick quilt covers loads, mine go all the way to Wales in my car no problem.

Having 2 is fab, i worry far less about leaving them as they have each other and i still get grumbles after 8 months, So its completely normal, like kids really, they get on each others nerves sometimes! Its fab seeing our two play, and although they like there own space, they are lost without the other if one is left home without the other! xxx

Hi rosie, i fit my two in the back of a citroen C1!! lol!! once they lie down they will happily travel and not move about so it shouldnt be a problem to go a distance, get a roof storage for your car and put your seats down, more room! or do what we did when we took our 2, and our luggage to wales for a week, put your luggage under a bit thick quilt and happy dogs! xxxxxx

Wednesday 01 Feb 20:01

Hi Rosierecorder - I used to fit my 4 into a Peugeot 306!

by rosierecorder

Wednesday 01 Feb 19:44

This is interesting to read as we are still unsure about whether to add Betty to the family! She has been with us since Sunday and there have been no problems between her and Joey. Main consideration for us is logistics...we only have a clio which they do both fit in the boot of but I wouldn't want to subject them to long journeys in. Can't get a new car, so would potentially have to only take one on holidays a long way away or when visiting parents, which then leaves us with a problem with where the other one goes for the weekend/day!!! Thats the last thing holding us back at the moment....xxx

Wednesday 01 Feb 17:10

We already had two dogs, jack russell/ collie crosses when our son left home to go to uni--this left a gap which needed filling with our first greyhound. The three dogs soon settled down together, swapping and changing beds and who they cuddled up to. When the last of the two original dogs died aged 16+1/2 our grey went into a bit of a decline until we got lovely Shanokil Lily (Millie) from Daybreaks Millie was extremely nervous but Maggie looked after and supported her to the extent of stopping and letting Millie lean on her when out for a walk when Millie was recovering from having a front leg amputated. Sadly after having had Millie in our lives for only 2+1/2 years we lost her to bone cancer. Once again on her own, Maggie declined and lost her appetite so within 6 weeks we were back at Daybreaks to collect Misty. Maggie perked up immediately, Misty had a few problems with being possessive of her stuff but both dogs get on well together. I would always try to have two together if possible. So have a go Chazat xx

Wednesday 01 Feb 11:04

We felt that when we just had Guinny, but he was only on his own for 3 months before we had our next and it was the best thing we ever did and now we have 4. As said before let the dogs meet with who you fancy and see if they get on. I still get grumbles after 2 years but thats only if they are sleeping/or are on a bed and one of the other dogs touches them. Mind you it is amazing how they respect each other space. You can only try and if you don't you'll never know!!

by kallie

Wednesday 01 Feb 08:51

i always chose to have 2 dogs as they are naturally pack animals, all mine have always chosen each other, as long as they got on with each other i was happy, best thing to do is go along to the kennels with your hound and let them walk with the others and see if there is one they like the looks off, you soon know when its right, having two is easier in many ways as they are never lonely and keep each other amused...

by goldi&ruby's-mum

Wednesday 01 Feb 08:41

Havin 2is great so far, Gold is not overly impressed, we've had lots of eyes sayin, "Mum what are you subjectin me too?" however they walk beautifully together, even had a play yesterday! The only time Gold really has a grumble is if the little one, as she's known, gets to close to her bed, though this can be any bed as they interchange all the time! We are treatin Gold to lots of cuddles n love n extra little tit bits, infact it's just like havin a 2nd child, Gold does everything 1st, so fingers crossed, just need to convince Dad that she can stay, he is waverin!! Good luck if you go for the 2nd x

by DaybreaksRuth

Wednesday 01 Feb 06:30

Having two is sometimes just as easy as having one! The settling in period is sometimes hard however if you have had one to start with. We always say expect grumbles and growls as this is quite usual as they have to adjust to sharing but once you have got through this - they usually become the very best of friends! Most greyhounds are paired when racing so they do love the company and their natural instinct is to be a pack animal. We always say your existing dog will always chose their partner. Hope this helps!

by Chazat

Tuesday 31 Jan 22:01

What's it like having 2, after just being used to 1? We are thinking of a number two because we often feel our boy is loney of his own kind of company but are worried to upset the norm that we have at mo. Just wondered how it was going!

Everytime Gold moves so does Joan n then Gold has a good bark, though her tail is waggin too! fingers crossed

Yes they are, we have been home checked and passed hurrah!!
Heather the home checker gave me fantastic advice about making beds using old quilts and fluffy material to cover them, so have been busy making huge comfy beds for them.
Am running around like a mad thing to make sure everything is ok for them, going to get them on Sunday so will let you know how they settle next week. Sorry have not posted earlier but not good with all this techy stuff!!
