4 years today since I got the wonderfully unique Bob aka Sir Robert Grey

I love him so much.....such a character! He's such a loving boy.
As I always say, having him totally changed my life in the most amazing way.
Thank you to all at Daybreaks for all you do for all the wonderful hounds - you make such a difference to their lives!

Thank you Jo, Stevie, Sarah & Willow!
Yes they both had cold roast lamb sarnies for lunch and steak (best sirloin!) and homemade thrice cooked chips for dinner. Banana & custard for afters. xxxx

Ha ha Deb! I have never found anything he doesn't like.....at the moment he likes rocket leaves and raw french beans. (but I know you meant things like the tin of vanilla air freshener.....my dried orange slices from the pot pourri bowl.....the George Foreman Grill......the leather lead.......a golf ball......my mitten.....a whole jar of manuka honey etc etc!!!)
Yes he's naughty.....but so lovable too! I always seem to like the naughty 1s! ;-) Good job Madam Orla is Miss Perfect xx

Oh Bobby Boos.....it was 3 years since you rescued me yesterday and although I posted on the FB site, I didn't on here and I feel very guilty!!
HAPPY GOTCHA DAY (for yesterday) my beautiful big black boy! Lots of special love, Muvva xXx

As you can see by the posts below, we've had a few dramas in the 3 years, but Bob is such a lovely boy with a unique character. He is such a cuddle monster.

He has settled down so nicely and I'm not sure what has happened in the last 6 months or so, but he's a different boy - suddenly we've gone from me dragging him off of his bed (literally!) to go outside to him leaping about like a mad thing, barking, talking and helicopter tail when he wants to go out.
Such a lovely boy - thank you so much to Daybreaks and Tracey xxx

Thank you!
Took Bob to the vet's today and they did a thorough examination and all seemed fine - heart rate normal....gums fine....circulation fine....not dehydrated....no problems in tummy area being felt....temperature bang on.
They then also did a blood test and it came back with 3 values not being right.
1 of them was the Lymphocytes were too low. He has tablets to take for a week and then we will see. Of course with it being Christmas, I will have to take him on Friday 27th.
He has lost quite a bit of weight...he was 34 1/2 kg and is now 28kg. Trying to build him up, but he is allowed nothing but his kibble ie no sardines / mince / fish etc at the moment.
Thank you for the lovely card Michelle xxx

Sir Robert really perked up today - well for a bit - been fast asleep for the past 6 hours. He should be going out for midnight wees, but is flatly refusing to do so.
He is doing well....wound looking fab, stitches to come out on Wednesday.
He has put some weight back on, but is still on 3 hour feeds of bland food like rice / chicken / scrambled eggs / white fish (did have a teeny bit of his usual kibble mixed in today)
Thank you for all the good wishes xx
(Hoping to come to the walk at Stratford on Sunday - even if I stay behind with him and see if I can find a volunteer to walk Orla)

He should have stayed in another day or so, but the vet thought he should come home as he was very stressed at the vet's.
He is sleeping peacefully :-)

Positive thoughts for Bob please. He is at the vet's having an emergency op. He was sick this morning and it was full of mystery black rubbery bits.
I have come home now and have found a buckle and a piece of black rubbery stuff with a silver rivet in under his blanket...have compared with our red lead and its a match! Solves the mystery of me not finding Orla's lead last night.

Took Bob (& his sisfur Orla) to the walk at Stratford this morning....was beyond THRILLED! He did the whole walk and only hopped once. (I know he laid down about 4 times, but he IS lazy and it WAS hot!!)
He was trotting along with no hop or limp :-)
Up until now he has limped when walking and hopped when trotting...galloping was NO problem though.

Ok, it may only be temporary and we may be back to limping / hopping in a while, but it made my heart sing to see my boy trotting along quite happily after 13 months of limpety limp hoppity hop! :-)

Love you loads Bob xXx

Very sorry to hear Bob is still having problems with his foot. xxx

by rolohound

Wednesday 29 May 17:02

Sorry to hear Bob not improving. Are you sure it is something to do with his foot as Rolo has developed a hop on back leg which we thought at first was corn related as he is prone. After getting a 2nd opinion by a greyhound specialist vet he has diagnosed with a spur on his spine causing the lameness. The lameness is still there but less so on soft ground such as grass or sand. He is now on medication to manage his pain levels. Rolo is also very tight through his back muscles but is also very grumpy when touched but massage would help him if we can gradually get him used to being touched. We are starting to do little massage strokes at home in the hope that Paul may one day be able to work on him to release his muscles. Just might be worth getting another opinion.

Bob had to go back to the specialist vet (Daniel Doherty) at Uxbridge last Monday and we thought he may have to have his toe amputated, but Daniel was not keen to do it at all so we are back to more treatment.
10 months I've had him now and I feel so sorry for him as we have been trying to get his limpery limp, hoppity hop foot sorted ever since then :-(

Took him and his sisfur away to the seaside last week and they were sooooo good....went straight on their beds at the B&B and slept all night - I was so proud of them :-)

He has settled in so well and is really showing his personality now. He has started barking at me and running to the pantry, back for a bark, off to his food bowl and back for another bark. I haven't heard him bark before.

He is such a lovely boy.....stubborn as a mule (nickname is Muffin) but lovely!

Bob and I had a lovely day today. We went to the Evesham Country Park where we met my friend and her Jack Russell. I put the muzzle on Bob for the 1st 5 minutes and Skip went on the lead for about 1 minute and as Bob was not really bothred by him Anita let him off. No problems at all. :-)

Afterwards I took Bob to Pets at Home. He was so excited when I got him out of the car and dragged me in there. I took him to see the rabbits and he stood right in front of them and just watched them all with his tail wagging like mad.

He didn't cry, sing or try to get to them at all.....just loved looking at them.

Then all hell broke loose.....2 kids were squeaking every toy in the shop. Their Mum saw the effect it was having on Bob and told them to stop. Bob pulled me back to the rabbits where we stood for another 15 minutes watching them. He didn't want to leave and I had to drag him out of the shop and then he wouldn't get in the car - he just kept trying to get back in the shop!

We are going to do the Awareness Day at Pets at Home in Redditch next Saturday - should be fun! :-)

Oh my goodness! 2 months on and Bob went absolutely mad when I got home from work today.
His tail was like a helicopter rotor blade when he saw me and then when I let him out to the garden for a wee he went absolutely mad, racing around the small patch of grass and coming to 'nip' me after each lap! :-)))

My arm is nicely bruised, but I am soooo happy. He did get excited and have a race around a couple of weeks ago, but this was X 10 that! So pleased that he's feeling happy and settled.

Not seen him race around before.....he still seems to have a problem with his back paw - never puts his weight on it - but he didn't half shift! :-)

Off to Pets at Home - Stratford on Saturday afternoon for the awareness day.....looking forward to that.

Thank you Shanesmum & RedDuke.
I can't wait for him to properly settle down and all his character to come out - last night he was on his bed....came into living-room, pinched a cushion off of the sofa and put it on his bed to rest his head on!
I am definitely considering renaming him Muffin though as he is just sooo stubborn :-)

Bob has his own FB page - I set it up so as not to clog up my wall - and friends' feeds - with all his updates and achievements and also to enable his Daybreak friends to see how he is getting on. If you go on the Perry Barr Retired Greyhound Trust's page, you will see a comment from him.....I'll add anyone who wants to friend request him.

This lad is such a poppet! He is so clean in the house, even asks to go out. I wonder if he HAS been in a home before....he's not worried by the noisy hoover, washing machine, or stairs at all. He is such a confident dog and has to investigate everything.
Had to laugh the other night as I took him out for his before bed wee up the garden - I have a patio in front of the back door, then gravel and then a grass area. He got as far as the gravel area (I've had to lay some stepping stones for him!) and then did his Muffin the Mule impression and there's NO shifting him when he gets like that.
I suddenly realised that my big tough boy was frightened of the dark up the top garden!! Bless him....he looked at me as if to say: 'No Mum...I'm not going up there....it's dark'
I put an extra outside light on and off he went. :-)
Has a bit of a whinge when I leave him, but soon settles and I leave him in the utility room with the door to the kitchen open for him and all's been fine.

Ruth was right about being like a toddler, he's into everything and last night decided that the pond needed further thorough investigation.......where there's a will... :-)

Went for a short walk just now as it's still so warm and there was a cat lazing about on a driveway....he saw it and looked away and carried on walking - no reaction whatsoever! Then a pigeon flew almost over his head and again no reaction. He is now crashed out in the classic grey position.

No problem giving him his antibiotics as he's such a greedy git with his food :-)

He has decided that 11pm seems a good time to go to bed and sits by the door asking to go. It's absolutely amazing how he has just taken to being here.

I feel so very lucky to have been able to rehome him xx

Home again after his little op - just chilling on the sofa and seems quite happy.
The lovely vet renamed him 'Sir Robert'!
She commented on what a lovely boy he is and how good his coat is.

Just a quick update....Bob was very good in the car, had a little snooze on the M42. Had a good look at the garden, investigated the house (leapt up the stairs, straight onto the spare bed and came down fine on his own)
He was so chilled, no panting, shaking or whining at all. Had some tea (ate it all nicely) and then went for nice walk in fields with my friend who has had lots of greys.
She was sooo impressed at how calm Bob is - he showed no stress at all. He is now in a quiet room on a cosy bed while I have my dinner. Had a little whinge for about a minute, but soon settled.
I am so pleased he's not upset.....he may be saving it all up for the night! Such a lovely boy!

Thanks for all your help and time today Ruth! xx

Ah my lovely Bob, I just can't understand why you are still at Daybreaks. You're such a star and we had a lovely walk today, you were a tiny bit excited when we met those other dogs, but responded very well and were so good. My cuddle for you today. Xx

Took Bob for a walk today. He is a very handsome boy. We passed the farm with the two labradors barking at the gate - he had a quick look, but seemed fairly unconcerned, good boy! Had to towel him down when we got back, as we got caught out in one of the down-pours. He was so gentle when I was drying him off. He got back onto his bed afterwards and we shared a cuddle. He's so lovely. Mand xx

Bob is such a lovely boy he is very calm, walks lovely but he doesn't show his personality when you walk past his kennel. So if you want a lovely calm boy go look at him.
