After reading all the sad posts about the returnees I wanted to put some good news out there. We had booked a holiday before we had Robbie and the maximum dogs they would allow was two so Robbie would have had to stayed at home. But we decided to contact the lovely place in Devon we are going to and told them we had gained an addition to our family. They thought we had a done a REALLY good thing and have allowed Robbie to come with us at NO extra charge. So we are all now going away together, I hope there is little bit of luck left out there for the returnees this weekend!!

Hi lucyj, met you briefly you on Saturday when Ruth was showing you round, welcome to the world of fostering! Glad that Robbie has settled with you and I'm sure you'll have a lovely time with him he is such a good boy. Fostering is so rewarding, and if you have another from the kennels at a later date you'll really enjoy seeing the change in them as you show them what the world's all about. x

Hi all. I'm Lucy. New to web site and new to fostering. We agreed to look after Robbie while his foster mum is away for a week or so. He's settled in brilliantly here today and gets on fine with our two greyhounds Rosie and Bruno and our friend's labrador Oscar. He's chosen his bed and is quite happily sprawled across our kitchen floor after his dinner, a chew and lots of love and attention. We've all fallen in love with him. He's a really gorgeous boy who doesn't mind lots of cuddles.

Hi Clareb, Robbie is fine to be left in the house we both work and he has learnt the routine of going to his basket. He has not messed or destroyed anything so I wouldn't consider this to be an issue. Regarding cats I don't think he has been cat tested but i do know he is interested in small dogs but he is interested in the curiousity side, he doesn't bark but will stand still, just checking it out. He doesn't pull or lurch towards another breed he just looks and has a body shake which is quite funny to look at as he sort of does a little leap in the air.

I have great news! Robbie's foster parents have decided to adopt him..... this makes me soooo very happy!
However, they already have a holiday booked and they can only take two dogs so they can't take him in addition to their greys. Therefore I am appealing for a foster home for him from Saturday 12th January through to 25th January. If you think you could help, I will pay for all of his food and anything he needs whilst he is being looked after.
I just feel this would be better for him than spending this time back at the kennels.
Unfortunately I am looking after my friends 3 greys at home in addition to my 6 due to a bereavement so I am unable to take him home with me :-(

Robbie is still doing well with us. We brought the dogs squeaky toys for Xmas and Robbie loves the "sausage one", he and magic try to share it. Between them there is a lot of squeaking going on in the house.

He loves his fuss and always has a wagging tail for us when we get up or when we come home from work, he is a joy to have around.

Robbie is a fantastic boy, he's really settled into home life after just a week with us. He gets on brilliant with Magic our other male grey and they have turned into the best of buddies doing everything together. He has a softer side with our female dog Cleo and they curl up on the same pillow and fall asleep together.
Robbie loves to play, especially with squeaky toys!! but has learned to share the toys with our other greys. Robbie has a very soft nature, loves cuddles and will rub his head against your leg if you have stopped fussing too soon. He's completely house trained and will let you know if he needs to go out with just a little whimper. He's doing great on walks and has calmed down with other breads. He's an absolute joy to have round the house and makes the perfect companion - we love him to bits.

Robbie is a really quick leaner, we have taught him to sit for a treat, he has masters the stairs and he now knows which food bowl is his. He seems to want to do his best to fit in which I'm sure he will do for his permanent home. Magic has really took him under his wing and they have become buddys with magic assisting him with house rules. All dogs had Christmas dinner yesterday and loved it, three bowls absolutely spotless, you can't ask for more than that for appreciation!!!

We are not to sure why this young boy has not been able to find a forever home. Here is a list of some the things we have experienced with him in 2days. He is completely house trained, he walks lovely on a lead, he gets on with both our other dogs - one female, one male, he is nice and calm and he has a lovely temperment. He loves a bit of fuss and is good around food - what more could anyone want more out of a loyal companion.
Merry Christmas to everyone related with Daybreaks and to all that have fostered a dog in both the short and long term to help them find a forever home!!!

Robbie has come home with us as a foster dog today. We will do the best for him whilst we foster him, he has had walk with magic and cleo and has now sat with me in the lounge. He has not been concerned with the christmas tree and he seems pretty relaxed but he is interested in everything we are doing which is to be expected. He seems a lovely dog !!

They sit and wait
Does a greyhound
contemplate his fate
and do they know
the places where they go
when they're grey and old
'Cause we have been told
that a sofa lets their dreams unfold
and when they're lying in their beds
thoughts running through their heads
of a new life just ahead
they're loving Daybreaks instead

I think all of us would prefer the dogs to come back to Daybreaks when they are clearly worried by something in the new home - there's the right dog and home for everyone and every dog so it's better they're back with us than there's an accident. Julie

sometimes it,s not meant to be- you will i,m sure robbie find another home soon- i agree with the last comment we don,t judge or offend we just get very dissappointed for these dogs and when like me you have three at home it,s hard not to feel a certain amount of sadness but ruth is always there to support and she will get him back on track again x

I don't think anyone has meant to judge or offend. I think we just get so disappointed when a dog is returned. But of course, we never truely have the whole story.
Also, sometimes it seems as though, for some, handing the dog back is an easy option (not suggesting this is so in this case) rather than educating the dog AND the family around the dog. Sometimes, it really isn't the dog's fault, although sometimes, yes it is.
We just get so excited to see these beautiful, well deserving Greys go into a home where they can retire and relax.
I'm confident Robbie will get another home soon, he is too lovely to not to. :)

Awww, it is very distressing for all concerned. BUT it has to be the right dog for the right home. Clearly Robbie wasn't happy in this situation (for whatever reason) but will find a more suitable home being promoted by Daybreaks. We fostered a dog (from somewhere else) for a month this year. Lovely as he was, he clearly never settled with us. We now have a new dog who has settled in straight away and gets on great with our first dog. We hear that the original foster dog is happy being back in kennels. Therefore a good decision all round. Horses for courses (so to speak!!) :O)

"First poor Cornelia, and now poor Robbie is a casualty of these children , I am extremely sad for both beautiful dogs"

It was with great sadness and a lot of heart ach we had to return Robbie, He sadly was becomming more Uncomfortable and nervous around my family, we have loved and cared for him greatly and have many wonderful picture to prove. I am greatly saddened by the enclosed comment and the six likes accompanying. Cleo is greatly settled and shows no problems at all enjoying a good stable family life with plenty of treats to boot. We did not make this choice lightly, But we came to this decision in both Robbie’s and my children’s best interests.
