Hi Shelly, this is Magics new mum. If you need any more advice please feel free to email me on esther.cottrell@hotmail.com. I can recommend a brilliant book to read to help understand separation anxiety: "understanding the silent communication of dogs" by Rosie Lowry. It's only a short paperback but I can highly recommend it. It's easy to read and understand and helped us no end with Magic. Give Daisy a big cuddle from me x

Today has been a great day as Magic has officially become a permanent member of our family. We all went for a lovely walk around Elmdon park to celebrate! We would like to thank Ruth for her kind words this morning and to all the people who have been following Magic's progress have given a "like". It has been really encouraging for us and has made us determined to continue to support Magic with his development, so thank you all!!

It's great to see that sign turn green! Keep up the good work Magic, best wishes to you all. x

Magic has now been with us nearly a week and he is still doing really well. We have built up his separation time over the week and today was the maximum time he will be ever left for. He did not show any signs of anxiety on my return which is so pleasing. He amazed us the other day as after a walk he went upstairs on his own, to sit on his pillow and he fell asleep whilst the rest of the family where downstairs, this a big achievement for a dog who has suffered separation anxiety. For any owners who have a dog suffering with separation anxiety get them into a routine, give them quality food, give them boundaries (magic does not get on our sofa or beds after being trained not to) get a kong toy to keep them occupied, put some music on when you are away, work with them at their pace and give them plenty of reassurances and support. This week has been one of the most rewarding weeks for us in owning a grey, seeing magic develop into a loving dog, after being informed and witnessing some of the stresses and anxiety he was under last week. He still has lots of training ahead but we are committed and he is learning quickly so we will all just keeping working together to give him a great retirement.

It's so lovely to read the updates on the beautiful Magic, he seems to be settling well and responding to his training - good luck and best wishes to you all. xx

i,m so proud of magic he was always one of my fav,s when i came to pick up my daughter from volunteering- sounds like he has found a wonderful home with you and it only takes patience and love

We are really proud of Magic he has been at home whilst we have been at work today...we have come home to NO mess, NO chewing and NO heavy panting, which are all signs of anxiety. We are so pleased that he is reacting well to the training so far. We have left some music on and given him a kong toy. He is working well to our routine and we think this is what he needs. He just needs routine, time, patience, support and a bit of TLC, of which he is getting...we think he is great!

Day 3 over. Magic has been in some more training...he has been on a field walk today behind a Christmas Tree farm, pretty magical for a magic dog. He has seen some dogs off their leads today and he is wary and bit nervous...he has been given reassurance and has had some calm words to try and support him. He is though getting better seeing other dogs on their leads though...we will continue to help him with all of this. We have done some more short return training...so far so good.
Monday 27 Aug 12:15
Welldone lad! Love you so much - as everyone! Have a good time I'm sure you will :) xx
Sunday 26 Aug 21:19
Day 2 eventful and rewarding. As Magic has suffered from separation anxiety he has been in short return training today, after 5 returns of various time periods he has seemed ok, something we will continue to support him with. He has been to the park as well today, he likes the park but is not sure about other breds. We will get him more socialised over time and help him with all these new things in his life, bring on day 3.

Day 1 nearly over with Magic. So far no problems with Cleo, he likes being in the car, he likes food / treats, he likes fuss and toys. So far so good!! He has masters the stairs and has had a good nosey around. He has had a good grooming and has had some Aloe Vera rubbed on his belly. He has had a walk down the canal tonight and when he has become a little unnerved with new things he has sort confidence from Cleo. He looked really smart tonight with his new stars and stripes collar, his new navy blue jacket and his bright yellow muzzle. He also nearly mastered to Sit for a treat...he is in for some more training tomorrow. He is now lying in front of the sofa having some fuss!!

Saturday 11 Aug 05:58
I had a message late last night that sadly Magic is being returned today. He has developed severe separation anxiety which some can develop when they are left initially. With some training he could overcome this so hope prospective offers can look past this as we can offer support and training if required.
Our world is such a strange world to some of them - after 6 years of kennel life so it can take a while for some to adjust.
As we are full at the moment, if anyone would like to foster Magic - please let me know. Ruth 0121 782 7702.

Magic has been with us for 2 months now and he has settled in well to his retirement home. He is great and his separation anxiety has completely gone and he shows no signs of stress around the house. He loves his basket, a doggy blanket, food of any type, toys (he always is getting them out his toy box and taking them for a walk arond the house) and a couple of good walks a day. He always though seems full of beans!! He is though is receiving 121 doggy training to de-sensitise him with other breeds of dogs as he has found this part of retirement quite difficult to adjust to. But we will continue to support, train and work with him until he can cope with all the different types of dogs out there!!
