Barney came along with me and H to the 'Just for Pets' roadshow on Saturday at Yardley. Considering it was all new, he coped amazingly well. He met lots of people and small children too and was unfazed by the attention and fuss bestowed upon him!
There were a few that seemed really keen on him so fingers crossed he may be a step closer to a new home!
He spent most of Sunday at Daybreaks and after collecting him we went for a walk around Elmdon park - not something I would have attempted the week before. However Barney is becoming more accustomed to seeing other breeds and now doesn't bark like he used to. We're getting there Barney! Keep it up clever boy (Aka Fathead - love ya really!) Tina x

Check out his new picture - this boy is sooooo gorgeous and his other pics just didn't do him justice.
Barney's such good company and he's really been making Ellis and me laugh, although I'm not sure that H is quite so endeared as he's used to having us to himself. He loves to play with cuddly toys and will toss them up in the air and catch them!
He's clean in the house, does as he's told and I can leave him unmuzzled as there's never a problem with his being grumbly with H nor has been destructive in any way.
He's now been used to being left in the day so it should be an easier transition for him to move into a permanent home. I'm sure there's someone out there that can give their time and commitment to this fun-loving boy. Tina x

Barney Blog..
He just loves be around you and will follow you in acticipation of anything remotely interesting happening! Barney is such a happy boy and he greets you with a 'smile' and a waggy tail. We have discovered over the weekend that Barney likes a cup of tea - he's obviously helped himself to someones cuppa in the past! He also has enjoyed a raw carrot and a banana of all things!
Barney had a sleepover night at my friends house with her hounds and behaved really well the other dogs. He showed no sign of dominance or aggression towards any of them.
He is still aware of other breeds but hope that we can work up to introducing him when he's not quite so excitable.
He's a real 'lounger' and loves to cuddle up to you on the sofa, although his psacial wareness seems to be lacking sometimes as he'll endeavour to fit in a space you'd fit a toy poodle!
He came the kennels Sunday with me and he still doesn't like walking past the farm. I walked him on a harness and that has helped to get him 'moving' when he needed a nudge.
He's really progressed well the last few days, as he's a clever boy. I'd love to see him re-homed with someone who can continue his training, your work I promise will be made more than worthwhile!
If you want to meet Barney, get in touch with the trust and I can arrange via Ruth, alternatively he'll be back at the kennels next weekend. Tina x

Barney update.. I checked the lovely Barney boys race history and although he's only raced 21 times over 2 years, he's ran at 8 tracks. Not sure if it was with the same trainer but may explain his insecurities.
He's doing great with his walks, and it's apparent he 'halts' when he's spooked by something or someone. Lots of talking and praise keeps him going. Barney's cleverer than the average grey, he's learned in only one day that the stairs is a no go and to 'wait' before jumping out of the car.He slept through last night with no cries/barking or 'accidents'
It was fingers crossed when I left for work this morning hoping he wouldn't be stressed and rearrange the house in my absence! However, there was no need to worry, all was in order save for a tiny puddle in the kitchen when Ellis got home. There's a bit of work to be done with his interest in other dogs as he tends to bark when he spots one, but he's not uncontrollable,he's just inquisitive which can also be endearing.
He's a very loving boy, last night he lay with his head on my lap and he's crashed out beside me now. He's great with H too and no signs of grumbles or jealousy with food/fuss.
I don't intend to keep him on, he's here to help him settle into home life and gain a bit of stability in his life. So ideally I'd like to keep him until he finds a permanent home rather than him go back to kennels again. If you are interested in Barney, please contact Ruth and I'll be happy to make arrangements for you to meet him. In my humble opinion I think a home with another grey would be best for Barney. I'll keep you all posted. Tina x

Barney came back yesterday and I agree with what Laura&Paul say, that he would really do well with the company of another grey.

With regard to separation anxiety, this is something that can be helped but Barney had only been out since Sunday on trial so it was not enough time for him to get used to his new surroundings - sadly the neighbours were complaining and his owners were upset to return him.

He is going out to foster today and we will see how he gets on being left with the company of another grey.

Well done to Barney too, he gave blood yesterday and was extremely chilled out back at Daybreaks - I think he may have left his bark behind! :-)

I took him back this afternoon. I think he would do well with another grey as he was quite clingy with us and suffered with seperation anxiety. Poor lad, he's so lovely. Give him a kiss and cuddle from us!!! X

Gutted we can't keep barney, we might need rehoming ourselves if we did! He needs a house with no downstairs neighbours and he can bark til his hearts content. He's a lovely boy he really is and whoever rehomes him next will agree. He loves his cuddles and kisses he is so affectionate and well behaved. He has definately tugged at the heart strings :(

I am really pleased..... he will soon get used to the new things in his life. Eeek.... it sounds awful to drag him but when we have 'stair trained' before, with a collar and lead on and a lot of persuasion they get used to doing stairs.... glad he is getting there. Just keep giving him lots of praise :-)

Barneys had his first night here, one big problem we had was he refused to go up and down the stairs! I rang Ruth in desperation this morning and she said to drag him up and he will get used to it eventually and I'm pleased to say it worked! Eventually lol. Thanks Ruth!
