I am really happy to learn that Derry has settled in so well but to be honest it doesn't surprise me. He is such a great natured dog and I am sure he is loving having a friend to play with too - bonus!

we are derrys new owners he is lovely very loving and well behaved he loves his toys and our large family of 7 he is getting on great with our other grey tom he even dropped a toy in his box trying to get him to play

We looked after Derry for the day at the Perry Barr fun day, he was brilliant throughout. He was extremely well behaved, quiet, calm and VERY affectionate! Derry will make a wonderful addition to any family.

I still think Derry is one of the most beautiful dogs I have ever met. He's so laid back, it was lovely to see him so much at ease today, considering what he was like when we first fostered him.

Derry was an absolute star at the Funday today, dispensing charm and friendliness all around the arena - even winning a 3rd place rosette in the most handsome black dog category - well done my beauty!

How sad for you JT to be in that situation but agree all the family needs to be enthusiastic about the dog otherwise its not fair on him/her either. Personally I would get rid of the husband!!!! But hey that's me.

Harriet it would be nice if you could pop down to the kennels from time to time and as Ruth says they always love a cuddle and a treat.
We have had a dog for 2 years now and it took my daughter 10 years before her dad agreed to a dog and he loves dogs!
He is now totally besotted with our little lurcher and hopefully when the time is right for you all you may be able to have a dog one day.XX

JT so sorry to read this sad news and for Harriet. g/hounds are very addictive and will repay one in loads.

I am really very sad for the lady concerned, as I know she will miss Derry very much even though he was with her for only a very short time. Having fostered him, though only for a few days, my wife and I know what a lovely boy he is and how well he would have settled.

Harriet, I know how gutted you are.... I told your mum you can come and visit him and all the greyhounds at Daybreaks any time. This is always good for those of you who can't have a dog but you can make a difference to those here who haven't found a family yet.... your hug will make their day and hopefully yours too xxxx

Today I returned Derry for no other reason than my husband wouldn't come around to the idea of having a dog! In the very short time spent with Derry I found him loving, gentle and incredibly friendly. He greeted all of our visitors, both young and old, in a placid, sweet, affectionate way. He loved running around the garden but equally walked on his lead in a calm manner.
I am devastated to have had to make such a difficult decision, particularly when the issue is with my husband and NOT Derry! However, Derry deserves to be with a family where ALL the family members want him as he is such an adorable dog with a warm personality. Good luck Derry in finding the perfect home and I am so sorry I have let you down. Jake, Harriet and I love you loads xxx

It was lovely to see Derry today, and to see that he's still doing well. He had a lovely play with a toy, and had us all in stitches as he put his foot through the hole in the middle - then picked it up in his mouth (with his foot still through the middle) and proceeded to hop around on 3 legs!!!!! He's such a beauty, and so full of love and fun, I really hope his forever home isn't too long in coming. xxx

I am sad we had to take Derry back today as I can see such a change in him in the short time I had to work with him. He will be a very loving companion for the right person or persons. Unfortunately we have commitments which cannot be sidelined which is why his stay with us was so short. I hope that you find your forever home very soon my lovely boy x x.

Im quite sad that, due to prior committments, the beautiful Derry has to go back today. He is coming along so well out of the kennel environment. Clean since arrival, he now trots up the stairs without a second thought and really enjoys his playtime. He likes nothing better than to please you and get some praise and a fuss, and is a fabulous "leaner"! The world is starting to be less of a scary place, and this boy is a bundle of fun just waiting to emerge. Time and patience is what this handsome fella needs. Good luck my gorgeous boy. xx

Pleased to say the lovely Derry was clean overnight and, after a bit of wandering about, slept in his basket nicely. He was really nervy yesterday, everything was so overwhelming for him, but what a difference a day makes. After initially backing away, he ventured up the stairs and has spent some time playing with a toy - it's lovely to see him gradually coming out of his shell as he is such a gentle, trusting boy. Plenty of patience and TLC and this boy will be a stunner. x

Derry is settling in well. Today has been all about overcoming his nervousness and teaching him to play.

We have bought the lovely Derry home with us for a few days to introduce him to life at home. He soon settled down in the car and travelled well. He has investigated everything in the house and garden and, at the moment, the big wide world is just a little bit scary for him, although it didn't stop him eating his tea! Hope to build his confidence as he is such a beautiful boy. x

This gorgeous boy was so shy , so rather than stress him we decided to give him bath time al-fresco which he really semed to enjoy. He has the sweetest face and I get the feeling he will be a lovely friendly boy once he ventures out of his shell. I'm sure he will melt a few hearts - he's got to me already! x
