NORAH (Salacres Nora)
1st September 2007 - 25th December 2021
God welcomed a very special new Angel on Christmas Day. Very sadly Lorraine had to let her beautiful Norah go to Rainbow Bridge. Xxx
Despite being really poorly for a while when she first arrived at Daybreaks, Norah (with an H!) has had a wonderful long and happy life with Lorraine and her family which included two children, three dogs and three cats! I remember Ruth taking me on my first home visit with Norah to meet Lorraine’s cats Angel, Joey and Charlie. Norah was perfect! :))
Norah has always got on great with children, all breeds of dogs and other people’s cats too :)) She was a Diva all her life but the rest of her gang put up with her funny ways! :))
Lorraine absolutely adored Norah and is heartbroken to have lost her. Sending lots of love to her and the rest of the family. Thinking of Sunny and Al her canine brothers. I know they miss her too.
Run free lovely Norah...go find Jess, Sara and Charlie. Xxxxx

Thunder shirts work well too and Valerian. I think Pets at Home stock it. Let's hope it's wet tomorrow night xxx
Wednesday 30 Dec 15:59
Hi Lorraine. Lola is awful with fireworks and getting worse as she gets older too. We use essential oils to help her when things get bad round here. Specifically we use Valerian, Hemp and Hops for calming, though it's the Valerian we think she takes most. We just offer a sniff of the bottles and then place them nearby her. It seems to help Lola relax and as long as she's in a cosy place she copes better than without them. Paul knows more than me - he went on a workshop with Caroline Ingraham (Google her and you'll see what she does), if you've not got his number then Ruth and Kate have it or his ad will be in an old Grapevine if you have one. He'd be happy to talk to you I'm sure. Linda x
PS we hear you met our neighbours in the park over Christmas.
Wednesday 30 Dec 14:07
Anyone have any advice on fireworks? my poor Norah is terrified of them and not looking forward to them on new years eve i have pet remedy plug in and spray which is not working x

Hi Celia, it was so nice to meet you today. It was lovely to see the photos of your Tom and hear all about him. You have lots of fantastic memories of him. Kind regards. xxx
Saturday 25 May 19:03
Hello Celia - thank you for having Nora for a couple of days and thank you for bringing her back to the kennels. For the family viewing - it was a very close and hard choice between Nora and Edith - but Edith was the one chosen. Nora has therefore come home with me and has gone straight to her favourite bed and is fast asleep after a busy day. I hope someone falls in love with her soon x
Saturday 25 May 19:00

Friday 24 May 17:39
lovetom, my heart goes out to you at this awful time. We lost my darling Shane 18 months ago now, and it took an awful long time to come to terms with it - some days I still have a cry at how much I miss him. But I can say, however clichéd it may sound, time is a great healer and one day you will be able to remember the good times with a fond smile and it won't hurt so much. It is lovely that you are looking after Nora for a time, you will be able to help each other through the next few days/weeks. xx
Friday 24 May 10:29
Thank you all for your kindness and support at this time
Nora was very good last night i was a wreck from 2am Nora came to sleep with me and did not leave my side and is helping all she can and following me around.
I am waiting for toms ashes to come home as i need to be with him, my memory is working so much over time i feel i have let tom down in some way one day i will know all will be ok. well Nora is wining and barking to get my attention as she is at my feet
Thank all again
Friday 24 May 08:22
Hi Lovetom - I was broken-hearted to hear you on the phone yesterday about the loss of your dear boy Tom.
I am so pleased that Nora was able to come to you and give you some TLC and I will give you a call later to see how she has been overnight.
Massive thanks to Martin and Mary for fostering Nora at their house and also taking her to her new foster home. I am really grateful to you x
Friday 24 May 06:56
I am so very sorry to hear your very sad news, my heart goes out to you.
I hope that Nora will help to ease your loss.
Thursday 23 May 23:29
Hi Lovetom, so very sorry to hear you have lost your special boy. He was lucky to have someone who loved him so much. I hope you and Nora can help each other. xxx

Thursday 23 May 19:53
Sending my love to Lovetom at this very difficult time. Xx
Thursday 23 May 16:21
22/05/2013 my greyhound tom 12y went to heaven today, and 22/05/13 Ruth very kindley sent nora for a couple of days to help ease the hurt at this raw time for me ,after meeting my two cats and having a treat we seen Martin drive off and we are sitting on the floor and i am telling nora all my tom she is settled for now see what happens tonight ,as i cannot decide were to sleep i think we will sleep in the spear room as i cannot bring myself to be in the main bedroom at this time, ten years is a long time to be with such a special dog as tom.
Ruth may i just thank you for coming to my RESCUE and i know nora is helping as i would not be able to right this, my eyes are sore from crying the last two days and nora will help stop the water and i can show her some of my special love
as she needs lots of love to
love to you tom my special boy
Wednesday 22 May 12:26
I send my wishes to the lovely Martin who I believe is the one who fostered my lovely Mindy. He and his wife are great people Nora will be well taken care of. Sylv and John xxxxxx
Tuesday 21 May 16:42
So glad she had a good night. Nights weren't really an issue until 5.00 am hit! I guess rabbits are a bit more of a challenge when they hop off and are in a run! We loved her as well and hope that you all understand it was so difficult. As Ruth said to me, I probably need to be a bit harder in disciplining and let them know who's boss. Cherrypie seems more settled and enjoying not being growled at when she gets on the bed. I agree Ruth she has a very waggy tail luckily it doesn't whip like cherrys. Glad she's got somewhere to go for a few days :)
Tuesday 21 May 11:25
Ditto tiggersslave......
I had Nora at home with me last night and she was a perfect little house guest - I am sure she remembered where she was and slept like a log all night. She went for a walk with mine this morning and wanted to play with two Spaniels she saw and we introduced her to the cats again and she happily sniffed them without her muzzle on and was far more interested in their food! She loves her food but waited patiently after she had eaten her breakfast whilst mine finished theirs.
We currently have our ducks and chickens in their enclosure on the patio as we are having a new run built for them and Nora thought they were great fun and got very excited!!!!
Martin has kindly agreed to foster her for a few days as I will be looking after Missy post op from tomorrow. I love this little girl who is full of personality and love and never stops wagging her tail :-)
Tuesday 21 May 08:17
I think that was just the right decision to make for everyone - Nora, Cherrypie and their family. It's got to work for all otherwise everyone is miserable :( and when I have a new dog the most important thing is my existing dog is happy with the newbie. Well done buckethead (!! LOL) I think that was a brave but right decision to make, I'm sure there'll be just the right home out there for Nora and Cherrypie will find her best friend when it's right :) Julie
Monday 20 May 22:36
So sorry things didn't work out for you all. xxx
Monday 20 May 19:40
I have to tell you all that it was not an easy decision. Nora is a lovely dog who was let down by us unable to meet her needs. She needed more attention than we could provide through being out in the day. We had her best interests at heart but also had to think about Cherrypie who has become subdued lately. I know Ruth and everyone else who does such a great job at Daybreaks, will find her a new home. Thank you x
Monday 20 May 17:22
Oh dear, this is so sad for both Nora and her family. Such a shame.
Monday 20 May 17:10
Oh no Nora what's happened?
Monday 20 May 14:30
Lovely Nora what can I say. We all love you dearly.
The New Icemaid Clan xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Monday 20 May 13:26
Oh no, poor Nora. Sounds like she is not happy for some reason. Hope the Ruth treatment works it's magic on her...x
Monday 20 May 13:14
My beautiful Nora has come back to Daybreaks..... sadly she has been toileting in the house, become aggressive towards other dogs out on the walk, growling at the other greyhound in the house, crying at 5am and eating the children's toys.
The family feel it is the right decision to return her and we support their decision.
Nora is coming home with me tonight and is off to a foster home tomorrow. I will keep you posted on she gets on but we hope to find this little girl a home soon.
Tuesday 19 Mar 14:57
Well done Nora. You look well over your health problems. Take care.
Tuesday 19 Mar 07:26
That's fantastic news! Thank you.
Tuesday 19 Mar 06:57
We are so pleased to have Nora here. She is great and has been through a lot. Can't wait til we take her on holiday and see what she's like on the beach! If anyone has the place to foster do it, it's rewarding but be careful, you may end up with a permanent house guest!
Tuesday 19 Mar 06:43
Well done Nora. Great news.
Monday 18 Mar 18:48
So happy Nora has recovered nicely and now found her own sofa. Good luck Nora. I'm sure your new family are gonna spoil you rotton!!
Sunday 17 Mar 17:15
Delighted for the lovely Nora - hope you all have many happy times together.xx

Saturday 16 Mar 11:13
I,ve been looking on this page all week waiting for you to put that special notice on so now it,s official I think all I can say is well done to you for making this little girls life complete and have a great time together xx
Friday 15 Mar 21:15
Well, we have made a decision and would like to offer Nora her forever home. We will be in on Sunday to complete the paperwork if that's ok? See you then x
Tuesday 05 Mar 16:12
Hi buckethead, my fingers are firmly crossed too!
Sunday 03 Mar 03:23
Hi buckethead! That is great news about Nora..... of course another week is absolutely fine... it is always best to be 100% sure - I will keep my fingers crossed :-)
Saturday 02 Mar 21:43
Nora is still being good although does seem to like waking me at around 5.30 for the toilet! She certainly likes her food and doesn't mind when Cherry has a sniff. She is great when we're out but does get extremely excited when we get back. We are so pleased with how she's settled
that we are considering adopting her and just want to give it another week. Hope that's ok Ruth? X
Thursday 21 Feb 13:54
Good girl Nora! So pleased to hear she is fine. xxx
Wednesday 20 Feb 18:38
That's great news. Tnx for letting us know and for looking after her. Not surprised she had a whimper - she's had it rough recently. But then TBH she's never been the bravest off the track! Truth is she's a real sweetheart and I love the pictures of her sharing the sofa with the cat. I can't wait to hear that someone has found her
Wednesday 20 Feb 16:14
Stitches out and everything's fine. She was very brave only whimpered as the first stitch was pulled out x
Wednesday 20 Feb 08:15
Nora is still being a great house guest. She's off to have her stitches out later so will let you know later what they say x
Monday 18 Feb 13:54
Nora is still being a great guest. She does like all the beds which at times is a problem for cherry as she's such a coward. She loves her food and bounces when the bowl appears. On the lead she's great. Only thing we haven't tested is leaving her on her own during the day x
Sunday 17 Feb 06:52
Not a peep out of her last night, cherry has accepted her being here. So glad we've got here x
Saturday 16 Feb 16:23
Since getting home, nora's had good sniff round and have decided where she wants to sleep so is having a snooze at the moment before dinner. So far so good x
Saturday 16 Feb 07:14
Well done lovely! What great photos.
Friday 15 Feb 19:08
What a lovely laid back girlie she is. Soooo not bothered about the cat. What a super little poppet. xxx
Friday 15 Feb 13:42
So pleased to hear she will hopefully be finished with her visits to the vets next week. What a perfect girl! xxx
Thursday 14 Feb 22:24
I took Nora to the vets tonight where she had a couple of stitches and a staple out.... she is going back next Wednesday to hopefully have the last few stitches out and will be fully healed by then.
She had great fun this morning on her walk around the park - jumping in and out of the puddles with Foxy. She is such great fun - I love her to bits... I am desperate to find her a lovely home - she loves the company of others and is so good with other breeds too x
Thursday 14 Feb 21:42
Oh Nora you are starting to look a really pretty girl again and you are cat friendly as well you are such a clever girl xx
Thursday 14 Feb 16:59
Love the new photos of Nora, especially the one with the cat -well done my lovely! x
Thursday 14 Feb 16:20
Clever girl Nora - so not bothered by the cats!!!!
Wednesday 13 Feb 13:59
Wonderful news, so good to hear Nora is doing well. xxx
Tuesday 12 Feb 14:57
Nora is doing fantastic! She is really starting to heal now and the swelling has gone down loads. She absolutely loves her walks around the park and is clearly very happy as she skips and bounces her way around! She has met loads of other breeds and is not at all phased by them.
She is now sleeping downstairs quietly with our other greys and today I left her at home and popped home lunch time to check on her - I peeped through the window and she was fast asleep on her bed! She went straight out for a wee and ran back to her bed :-)
Sunday 10 Feb 09:07
Had to pop to Ruth's to get something for Spotty and Nora came charging up to me to say hello with her lampshade on! lol, she seems quite a character, she cant be feeling all that well but still wants to be around the thick of it.....go girl! You get my cuddle today nora. :) xxx
Wednesday 06 Feb 21:55
She must be feeling a tad better to do that!!!!! How funny, good ol Nora, poor girl she so deserves to be getting better! Hope you are feeling a bit better too Ruth. :) xxx
Wednesday 06 Feb 21:45
I almost forgot Nora's appointment this evening as we have had a really busy day at the kennels. She is on more antibiotics - as she was so good at the vets, I took her up to Just for Pets at the Swan. She chose herself a new lampshade collar as we need to wash her other one each day due to her wound weeping so much :-( She wasn't impressed at just buying that so helped herself to a treat conveniently situated by the till - little minx!
Wednesday 06 Feb 19:30
I'm loving Nora's blog!! Can we have an embarrassing pic of her with her lampshade on?? Hope she's feeling better soon and gets over her grumps. Big hug. xxx
Wednesday 06 Feb 13:33
Poor Nora, I guess it can't be much fun having to wear a lamp shade, not good for her street cred! Hope she doesn't upset her wound. xxx
Wednesday 06 Feb 06:55
Poor Nora is getting frustrated now.... I had to put on a soft lampshade collar and neck brace yesterday as, despite every effort, she manages to get all her bandages off - she is like Houdini! Because of this, she is irritating the stitches and they are becoming sore. She had a settled night but is now becoming very grumpy with her lampshade on (which is understandable) and I think we will be off to the vets today to get some more antibiotics as she has finished them now.
Tuesday 05 Feb 19:13
How are you today lovely Nora? Do hope you are feeling a bit better, another cuddle from me today. xxxxx
Tuesday 05 Feb 13:59
Ruth and Rob, you are a special couple and make a fantastic team; thank you so much for everything you do to give these wonderful dogs a chance to have the life they deserve. xxx
Tuesday 05 Feb 06:52
Thanks to Steve Evans for his very generous donation to help with Nora's care and his very kind comments. It is lovely to have such kind and caring owners - which just proves that not all racing greys are treated as many people perceive.
I also want to say a big thank you to Robbie, my lovely Husband, who has taken it in turns with me sleeping downstairs to keep an eye on Nora - he is an absolute star too and I couldn't do the work I do at Daybreaks without his support. Love you Robbie!!!!!
Monday 04 Feb 20:52
So glad all has gone well for you lovely Nora! You get my cuddle today and such lovely comments form your old owner, I think your forever sofa isnt far away! xxx
Monday 04 Feb 14:04
Wonderful news for Nora so happy for her. I saw her on Saturday, she looked great! xxx
Monday 04 Feb 13:53
I’m Steve Evans. I part-owned Nora and just wanted to say how grateful I am to Ruth and her team for the fantastic job they’ve done looking after her.
Ruth, you have been an absolute STAR and when you next see Nora please give her a cuddle from me and one from Shaun, my other ex-racer. I used to walk them together – her often in her ‘Nora’ coat! – and the only reason she’s not here with us now is that he beat her to it.
Nora has a lovely personality and has had it rough over the last few weeks having first been spayed by our Vet and then having this flare up straight afterwards. It’s the best news that the tumours were benign and I hope she finds a good home very soon.
Sunday 03 Feb 12:51
So pleased for this girl and glad she is now being fostered.
Saturday 02 Feb 18:57
It was lovely to see Nora today and see how much better she is. She was back to bouncing and wagging her tail and demolishing her dinner in a very short space of time!! Bless her, she really is on the mend now. xx
Saturday 02 Feb 12:01
Brilliant news. Nora must be feeling sooo much better if the swelling has eased up. Keep fingers crossed now for a forever sofa!! xx
Saturday 02 Feb 07:47
What great news! X
Friday 01 Feb 21:32
Oh Nora, what great news!!!!!! You seem such a lovely girl Im sure your new home is just around the corner! xxx
Friday 01 Feb 20:23
So happy for Nora... and for you Ruth as well. She is gorgeous and I hope someone falls in love with her very soon. xxxx
Friday 01 Feb 19:41
That is such fabulous news. Well done Nora. xx
Friday 01 Feb 19:18
I am over the moon at the results today! They have come back showing the salivary gland tumours were benign - YAY!!!!!!! She has had to have a couple of staples where one of the stitches had come lose but her swelling has gone down loads. She is well on her way to recovery and is just the most perfect house guest. I am desperate for someone to offer her a home now we know she has the 'all clear' - if you are interested in a happy girl who is such a good girl, please get in touch x
Friday 01 Feb 13:09
How is Nora today? Is there any news from the vet? xxx
Thursday 31 Jan 20:24
It was lovely to meet Nora today when I dropped in at the kennels to contribute my little bit to her funds. She is such a happy girl and her tail is soooo waggy. She's amazing.... with everything she has been through as well. I am keeping everything crossed for her recovery now xxxxxx
Thursday 31 Jan 18:50
What a nasty nasty wound and swelling. My heart goes out to you Nora - and Ruth. I have donated a little something which I hope will help. If lots of us give a little something - that's all it takes. I will be watching your progress avidly and hope you feel better soon poppet. Lots of gentle hugs. xxxx
Thursday 31 Jan 14:43
Oh Ruth.....poor both of you! Well Nora you could not be in better care, nurse Ruth will get you better, lots of very gentle cuddles coming your way.....and for you Ruth!!! xxxxxxx
Thursday 31 Jan 12:28
She sounds such a lovely girl. Hope the wound starts to settle soon. xxx
Thursday 31 Jan 07:58
Poor Nora - her throat keeps swelling up with fluid and then she will catch it and we have blood everywhere :-( She caught it again last night despite my attempts at protecting her throat - it must be some uncomfortable for her as she continuously tries to rub herself on her bedding. She is being a really good girl - eating well, clean in the house still and very affectionate...... hoping to get the results today.... I will keep you posted.
I am overwhelmed at the generosity of everyone has donated so far to help towards her treatment - thank you so much xxxxxx
Wednesday 30 Jan 13:20

Tuesday 29 Jan 18:35
I have just come back from the vets with Nora for her first post op check. Sadly she has been filling up with fluid and I managed to drain some last night and this evening quite a lot more was drained. She is quite distressed with her dressing but we are keeping her as comfortable as possible.
She is the perfect little house guest and totally toilet trained - not one accident since she arrived on Friday. At her operation on Friday the vet removed her salivary gland. The results are not back yet but we are still keeping our fingers crossed. I will keep you updated x

Aah poor Nora, she must have been so distressed, that massive bandage! At least she can sleep at the kennels now unlike like aunty Ruth who probably has to run a round like a mad woman lol. I hope she will feel better soon, im assuming the op went well ...so what happens next? X
Saturday 26 Jan 08:01
I've just seen the photo!! I can see why she got stressed by the bandage poor little girl! She is very lucky to have you looking after her and fussing her all night! X
Saturday 26 Jan 07:59
Ahhhh, poor Nora, look at that little ear sticking out from the bandage in the picture!, and you can see the swelling, she must have been in so much pain to have cried all night :( and you are a star for sitting up with her, not many would do that for a dog that wasnt even theirs! I will give her a cuddle at the kennels today. x
Saturday 26 Jan 07:55
Oh no! I'm pleased to hear she is brighter this morning although it sounds like you'll be needing a lot more caffeine than normal to get you through today! Xx
Saturday 26 Jan 07:39
Ruth, you are an angel staying awake with her all night. She's feeling bright this morning, but what about you? Hope you the time to find a quiet corner for a quick nap later! Hope Nora feels better and sleeps through tonight. Mand x
Saturday 26 Jan 07:24
Hi Clareb..... well you asked for an update on the lovely Nora.... she is officially Craggy Nora after the night I have had with her! I fetched her from the vets at 6pm and brought her home. She was bleeding a lot from her bandage but this was to be expected.
By 11pm as she seemed quite distressed by her bandage and her face was swelling a lot I cut some of the dressing away. I have laid stroking her the whole night as she has cried constantly :-(
She is very bright this morning and I will take her to the kennels today so I can keep an eye on her.

Friday 18 Jan 15:49
I took the beautiful Nora to the vets this morning also as she had a swelling come up on her neck. After speaking to her trainer it was thought it was just a blocked salivary gland. However, today a large amount of murky blood was syringed out of the swelling and we have been advised for her to have the swelling investigated. She has therefore been booked for her operation next Friday :-(
Wednesday 16 Jan 17:35
Nora is a lovely girl, who walks well on the lead and totally ignored the barking Labs at the farm today. She does love to 'bounce' when her food bowl is approaching! Cuddles for you sweetheart. xx
