Hounds Easter Parade

Sunday 10 Apr 2022

by Shanesmum

Updated: Monday 04 Apr

Calling all Greyhounds - we will finally be having our postponed Hounds Easter Parade in the sand run, and we would love you to take part.

Get your Mums & Dads to get creative with your Easter Bonnets or full costume - and they can join in the fun too by wearing their own Easter outfits if they want.

The event runs from 11.00am to 2.30pm - the parade will take place at 12 noon.

"In your Easter Bonnet, with all the frills upon it

You'll be the grandest Greyhound in the Easter Parade"

Our Judge will be awarding a prize for the prettiest girl, most handsome boy - and the best family group (hoomans included!!) It's all for fun, and to raise funds for the care of Daybreaks lovely boys & girls.

We will also have a Doggy Dip tub for you to have a snuffle in, sossidge bobbing and for your humans there will be a raffle and refreshments.

We hope to see lots of you for a fun time - keep your paws crossed for some good weather!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the Hounds Easter Parade today. The weather was glorious, and it was so good to see so many lovely hounds. Congratulations to the winners - Sky Prettiest Girl, Al Most Handsome Boy and the O'Neill family Best Family Group. Apologies for the technical hitch which stopped the music!! Thanks to Lynne Stevens for acting as Easter Bunny & Judge, and to the generous donation from Clarks Creations from the sale of their beautiful wooden items.

Congratulations to the raffle winners too, you have all been contacted to collect your prizes!

My thanks to Chris for her help manning the sossidge bobbing and Doggy Dip and to Lorna for doing the mini pampers.

Your support & generosity has raised the amazing sum of £552.90 - THANK YOU!!!!

Angie xx

I thought I had mentioned already so many apologies, parking for the event is at Birmingham Exiles Rugby Club as usual. Please use the top end (closest to the A45) then walk back up the driveway - entrance to the sand run will be on your right.

As ever we say a huge thank you to Martin and the Club for helping us out in this way.

Tickets for the Easter Raffle will go on sale at the kennels tomorrow. There are some fabulous chocolate hampers as prizes, with a special 1st prize basket containing a Lindt egg, bottle of Prosecco and some lovely hand made greetings cards. Huge thanks to Denise, Tracy and Tash for their generous donations - I shall certainly be buying a ticket or two!!!

Plans are well under way for the Hounds Easter Parade, there’s lots going on and therefore I’m appealing for some extra helping hands on the day to help the event run smoothly. If you can spare an hour or two, we'd be delighted! Any questions or queries about what would be involved, please give me a shout! Angie xx

So, I have unearthed my costume which went into storage in 2020 when Covid hit.

Umm - I feel a diet & fitness regime is called for prior to wearing it in public!!

Hope all your Easter Bonnet planning is coming along nicely - I am
delighted to announce that Lynne Stevens has very kindly agreed to be our Judge for the Parade, so get those thinking caps on and let's give her a hard job to do!!!

A message for the children - the Easter Bunny has decided that he doesn't really like sand all that much, so has relocated his Easter Egg Hunt to the garden of the B&B (big thanks Bob).

There are 4 simple clues to lead you to 4 egg tokens, pop them in your basket and take them to the Easter Bunny to claim your Easter Egg prize - simple!

Exciting!!! The rosettes for the Parade arrived today. There are 3 groups:-
Prettiest Girl
Most Handsome Boy
Best Family Group (humans included!)

It's only £1 per hound to enter, and the group winners will get a great goody bag too. Every hound that enters will get a small, commemorative rosette. Please remember, it's all for fun, and to raise funds for our lovely boys & girls, so get creative with bonnets and costumes!!

I'm dusting off the costume I bought for the original parade scheduled for 2020 - and am hoping it still fits!!!

The Easter Bunny has organised an Easter Egg Hunt for the hooman children in a dedicated area of the sand run, as he didn't want the hounds to have all the fun!! It will cost £1 to enter, solve a few simple clues, collect the egg tokens and present them to the Easter Bunny to claim your Easter Egg prize! x
