A Stroke of Luck: One Lucky Greyhound’s Tale to a Perfect Home!

In February, Daybreaks recieved a call – there was an ex-racing Greyhound with nowhere to go. At eight years old, this poor boy was stuck and no rescues could take him.

When all options were exhausted Daybreaks knew they had to do something. The mission was urgent — this dog didn’t have much time.

When the staff did an assessment on the beautiful black Greyhound, they couldn’t help but be impressed. He was calm, gentle, and super loving. He got along with people and dogs alike and there was a kindness in his eyes. He proved himself to be a golden boy who deserved a chance, but there was one big problem: Daybreaks was at capacity.

Daybreaks was full and without a foster home, there was no place to go. The staff put out a desperate appeal on social media, hoping that someone would step forward.

Incredibly within 24 hours, the response was overwhelming. A call came from a remarkable lady – a previous adopter from Daybreaks. She lived on a beautiful farm in Bromsgrove and had sadly lost her Greyhound recently. They weren’t looking for another dog but when she saw the appeal she couldn’t help but reach out and see if she could help.

“We’ll take him in,” the fosterer said. “We’ve got the room and somewhere for him – we’ll help him.”

The staff at Daybreaks were astounded. The beautiful boy hadn’t even arrived at the kennels yet, and already, everything was starting to fall into place.

The perfect foster home had appeared at the perfect moment. They quickly made arrangements, and within a day, Kate and Luci were packing some stuff to take him to his new home. Amazed by the luck of it, Bingo earned his name.

When they arrived at the farm, Bingo stepped out of the van with a quiet curiosity. Taking in the large green fields, the calm atmosphere—and a beautiful sunset setting behind them. The door to the house opened, and his two new fosterers greeted him with open arms.

Bingo took one look at the beautiful home and the sprawling land around it, and his tail wagged with anticipation. But there was something even more important than the fields and great outdoors… Bingo wasted no time at all, trotted into the house and found a bed as quickly as he could. Without a second thought, he jumped in and settled as though he had found his forever spot.

Whilst the humans did the paperwork, Bingo tried every bed in the house but it was apparent the one by the fire was his favourite! It was clear he had made himself at home.

For two days, Bingo lived on the farm with his foster family, settling in and enjoying his new life. And then, just as quickly as he had arrived, the phone call came.

Daybreaks received a call from Bingo’s fosterers. “Bingo’s doing great,” she said, her voice filled with optimism. “But… we’ve decided. He’s not going anywhere. He’s staying with us.”

The staff at Daybreaks could hardly believe it. Bingo’s luck had turned in the most remarkable way. His emergency foster home had turned into his forever home, and it was everything Bingo could have ever dreamed of – he’s struck gold! Bingo – the lucky Greyhound, has found his forever home.

This incredible story shows how important our foster homes can be in changing lives for a Greyhound, we are looking into getting more foster carers in the future to enable us to help more dogs like Bingo… if this is something you’re interested contact us.
