Welcome to Daybreaks’ Story
What’s different about Daybreaks Trust?
Our facilities feature 10 kennels, each equipped with under-bed heating, 24-hour CCTV, and a radio. We are lucky to be sponsored by Burns, our dogs enjoy top-quality food. We have a play pen often equipped with various toys and our enclosed sand area provides a perfect spot for them to run.
We take great pride in providing exceptional dog welfare. Once a new dog has settled in, they undergo an assessment including a health check, temperament evaluation, and a pampering session. We ensure they’re comfortable by providing duvets, blankets, fitting them with a fleece and giving them their own toys. Our dedicated team of volunteers groom the dogs, clean their teeth, and give enrichment toys daily. The dogs also get weighed every five days. Our dogs also receive a walk twice a day where we can start to socialise them.
Our Story
Established in 2006
Daybreaks Vision
Daybreaks kennels were established on 1st July 2006. In that time, Daybreaks has found over 3,400 loving homes for ex-racing Greyhounds. Daybreaks Trust aims for a society where every retired Greyhound finds a loving home.
We have a fantastic team of staff, trustees and volunteers that makes what we do possible.

The Story Starts
Daybreaks was founded by Ruth Price in 2006, but Daybreaks’ story actually starts in 2001 when Ruth rescued her first dog, Tara (Daybreaks Beauty). Adopting Tara transformed Ruth’s perspective on dogs and inspired her to create change. Initially, she rescued Greyhounds in her home but she fast began running out of room.
Perry Bar Racing Stadium
Ruth was asked to help set up a rescue centre for Perry Bar Racing Stadium.
Full Time Job
It was decided the only way to rehome more Greyhounds was if Ruth quit her job as a medical secretary and managed the kennels. On the 1st July 2006 Daybreaks was established.
Tara's Legacy
Tara sadly passed away to bone cancer. Tara’s legacy continues to thrive in every Greyhound that enters Daybreaks.
Daybreaks Independence
Daybreaks made the decision to separate from the Greyhound Trust and establish its independence. As a result, Daybreaks became its own charity.
Pastures New
After 18 years of commitment Ruth moved on to pastures new. The kennels have been entrusted to the capable hands of new manager Luci Foulkes, along with a dedicated team of exceptional staff and volunteers. We are eager to continue the Daybreaks journey and help as many Greyhounds as possible. To date, Daybreaks has found over 3,400 loving homes for Greyhounds.
