”Bella changed our lives” – A Greyhound Rehoming Story
Deciding to get a Greyhound
When we first decided to get a rescue dog after losing our precious pug a year earlier we looked up so many different breeds in rescue. I decided I wanted a greyhound but my husband was reluctant as he hasn’t had much experience with larger breeds.
Bella was a slow burner
Once visiting Daybreaks and meeting the gorgeous dogs my heart was set on a gorgeous brindle girl called Tegan. She had zero interest in us even when we took her in the sand run and tried playing with some toys which she didn’t know what to do with.
Bringing her home
Three days later she came to complete our family. We renamed her Bella. It was scary as it felt like we had brought a small horse into the house but she was so gentle. She cried in the car on the way to our home and didn’t want to go on the sofa and decided to lay outside. She learnt where to go to the toilet on day one and has been amazing ever since.
Settling in to family life
It took one day to experience the “paw of more” which had us in stitches and is now a daily occurrence. 5 days later she learnt how to use the stairs and since that day we can’t go to sleep until she has had a cuddle in bed with us.
Finding Her Spark
Roll on a year and the timid girl who didn’t even acknowledge us when we met now wants constant fuss, lots of kisses and loves spending time with us.
I cannot imagine our lives without a greyhound in it now. They are regal, charming and melt your heart.
She is a true companion. Amazing on the lead, loves a car ride with the window open and loves her comforts.
Watching her learn new things like playing with toys, trying new treats and experiencing living in a home is so rewarding.
You never get tired of watching them roaching, showing their cute teefies and running in their sleep.
She hardly ever barks and is so gentle with all other dogs she meets and loves playing with them.
Since having her we have learnt our bed is now hers, we have random toys thrown at us, we spend a lot of time with her feet in our face, we need phones with large memory to hold all the hilarious videos and images of our time together and we will never get to eat a full box of nuggets alone again.
Bella changed our lives
Bella has changed our lives and we are so lucky to have her.
Most importantly rescuing a greyhound means saving a beautiful soul.
If you want a new best friend, a loyal companion and a gentle giant, get a greyhound!
