To Paul, Linda and Lola. So desperately sorry to hear about Lola. She will always be a special girl in your heart. I know what you mean when you make special friends having a greyhound for the first time. You made me very welcome on the Sutton park walks with ellie may. Sleep tight beautiful girl. Xxx

Yesterday, Wednesday 7th December 2016 we had to let our beautiful, gentle Lola go to rainbow bridge. We had desperately wanted to get her well enough to come home and have our parting in the place she loved the most but it simply was not to be because she was too poorly. So we took her favourite things from home to her. She laid her head on her favourite yellow duck cushion and we covered her with her red scandi fleece blanket. She made herself comfortable and with Paul, Lena and I all with her and surrounded by our love, we talked to her and she slipped away so peacefully. She was a hugely special girl, our first greyhound and we know we gave her the best life we could possibly have given. We always said she was born to be retired and that was the life she led. She gave us the gift of her love and loyalty and opened up a whole new world of special people we have met and who we love, simply because she came into our lives. Paul and I miss her so very much and are devastated that she’s not with us any more, but she is set free now from the pain of her illness over the past weeks. Free to be that happy and regal greyhound once more. Meeting and greeting I hope, as anyone who knows her from training classes will remember how she liked to go round the room and say hello to everyone before we could get any sense out of her! Lena is missing her chum very much and we will dedicate our time to giving her the support she needs to learn how to cope without Lola. Rest easy our beautiful, sweet girl. Just a heartbeat away from us …..we will love you always xxxxxxx Mum, dad and Lena xxx

Hello to all of our friends. Some of you will already know that our beautiful and very special Lola has been ill for a good few weeks now with diarrhoea which is not responding to treatment, repeated infections causing high temperature and clinical fever. She was poorly last Wednesday night with another high temperature and we'd been at the vet only that morning and more blood tests had been ordered, but she was admitted to the vets overnight and was kept on IV fluids and antibiotics. Pancreatitis was confirmed by the blood tests, but she was also referred to the Willows. She went to the Willows on Monday to see an internal medicine specialist and we're sorry to have to say the results of the CT scan are pretty bleak for her. She has a number of blood clots in the vessels which feed blood to her liver and these are preventing her liver from doing it's job properly. The outcome of this is that she's been diagnosed with Portal hypertension and knock on effects to the stomach and the pancreas hence the diarrhoea and pancreatitis. She has also developed acquired shunts as a result which are blood vessels by-passing the liver. The outcome of this is the repeated infections. We don't now what the true cause is of the portal hypertension and because she is too poorly for the liver biopsy which would tell us more, we might never know. She came out of the sedation yesterday in a poor state with an extremely high temperature too. There's no treatment possible for the existing clots and currently they are trying her on a mixture of medications to try to get the symptoms under control and to prevent new clots forming. We won't know until the end of the week whether this will have the required effect. We are all so very sad and upset at this situation as Lola is extremely poorly right now and of course has lost rather a lot of weight as a result. Lena is bereft that her companion is not at home and has started to show some worrying signs of stress. We've visited Lola tonight and tried with the nurse to tempt her to eat, but without any success. She did however ask me for a drink from the bowl by staring at it and crying and complained when I moved it away because she wanted more. I obliged of course as she'd asked so nicely. I was worried about her taking so much water in one go, but apparently she's Ok with that. We can not describe how it makes us feel to see her so weak but the view from the vet this morning is to give her longer on the medication, but that may change if she goes downhill. It's very tough and so hard to watch. We took her yellow duck cushion and a fluffy fleece blanket from home when we visited in the hope she'd perk up a bit. She snuggled her head down on the duck and later flopped back to lie flat and had the soft, folded blanket under her head and shoulders. She looked so peaceful. We have to hope she will show a small improvement soon as we'd dearly love to have her home to enjoy her creature comforts again even if that turns out to be for a very short time. We love you Lollybobs and pray you will dig deep and find some hidden reserves so you can come back to us. All our love, mum dad and lil sis Lena xxxxxx
