    I’m Homed

I took Nelly to Elmdon park today. She was interested in every sight and every sound. She was keen to say hello to other dogs (although she may need a bit more work on her social etiquette when it comes to introducing herself!!) and she enjoyed bouncing around with a puppy we met. She is a really friendly girl and loves fuss and attention. I think she will make an amazing pet.

    I’m Fostered

I’ve fostered Cody for just over 3 weeks now and she’s such a different dog from the little scaredy thing who arrived. She spent the first 3 days in a crate I set up for her having her food and water there. Then she realised we weren’t too bad and gradually started coming out for a look. She’s followed my other dogs to learn the daily routine and now does zoomies at meal times and comes and joins the melee for treats after tea. She gets on the sofa if you let her and LOVES the TV (she’ll need at least a 52” in any new home, please). She now only uses the crate for bed or if we go out. She’s mostly clean in the house and we’re having less accidents now that she trusts me enough to come when called (mostly) and be put outside fairly often. Walking-wise I’d didn’t walk her for about 10 days. Then only for a few minutes at a time every 2-3 days. She’s still nervous and is learning to tolerate cars. A home in a quiet area would suit her well. We live in a cul de sac in an area of dead ends and no through routes so any cars near us are already going fairly slowly to park or turn into one of the other dead ends. Yesterday we walked towards the main road and looked at the passing traffic for a few minutes and then came away. Any adopter will need to be aware of her stress thresholds and be prepared to work with her as she gets braver and more familiar with everyday sights and sounds. We are now up to 20 minutes walk most days.. Cody is a super girly and although she will go backwards again when she moves to her forever home, she will make a patient adopter such a lovely companion.

Bit late on this... But it has been the week for birthdays! It was our Penny's 5th birthday on Monday 6th October. She was, as always, a superstar. Had plenty of play time, treats and everything rolled around her! And yesterday was my birthday. I was spoilt as well. Bit thank you to my partner, Sarah for the trip to the Cotswolds. It was fab! It's been a greyt week!!

She is settling in well so far. She’s already established that the kitchen is where food comes from and that she can reach the worktop with a jump! She has been for her first walk and is now taking a nap in her new bed

  • Daybreaks Diary!

    I’m Homed

So, I’m not impressed with this Autumn weather - today was dull, grey and chilly! Our lovely Patrick, who is currently residing in the Daybreaks hotel suite (kitchen kennel and outdoor run) is gaining in confidence every day. He is benefiting from being able to survey all the kennels activity from a safe distance, processing it all whilst having that “safe space” to retreat to. He’s doing so well. Gold Star Clean Kennel Awards for most of the residents today, but a special mention for the fabulous Gino - we just needed to straighten his blankets. He was lying on his back with his legs in the air waiting so patiently for his turn to come out for his breakfast. 😍 It’s the Great Global Greyhound Walk tomorrow, and Daybreaks walk is at Brueton Park in Solihull, meet up at 10.30am for an 11.00am start. It’s such a great event, where Greyhounds and sighthounds all over the world go out on a walk to raise awareness of what fabulous pets they make. Many thanks to the volunteers that are taking some of our residents to the park to participate in such an amazing event. Have a lovely weekend one and all,. Angie xx
