Daybreaks Diary!

It was a bit of a chilly start to the day this morning, such a contrast to yesterday. The lovely Dazzle got my Gold Star Clean Kennel Award, think we need to check the cameras to make sure he is actually spending the night in his kennel😂 The lovely Gorgeous continues to live up to her name, although I suspect it was her leading the “rooing” chorus as they were all waiting for breakfast!! The time is racing by and we’re over halfway through May already- crazy. Don’t forget raffle tickets are on sale now with some lovely cash prizes on offer, the draw will take place at the Greyhound Summer Fayre on 29th June. Our Drop-In event is happening at our neighbours, the Birmingham Exiles Rugby Club, on Sunday 8th June between 11.00am and 3.00pm. It’s our chance to say Thank You to our volunteers for their hard work and dedication, to say Thank You to our friends for their continuing support and welcome new volunteers onto the team. Refreshments will be available and we’ll have a tombola as well as information about volunteering and the opportunity to meet the Trustees. Everyone is welcome, we look forward to welcoming old friends as well as making some new ones too. Unfortunately dogs aren’t allowed inside the Club. Have a lovely weekend one and all. Angie xx

Gino came out for a stroll around Elmdon Park yesterday. It was definitely a slower pace than normal, but it was really hot!! He makes a really wonderful companion and his shiny coat makes him so handsome. He really enjoys a cuddle and really loves any attention he can get. For some reason he keeps being overlooked, but I really do think he will make a great pet. He just needs someone to give him that chance. Keeping everything crossed 🤞🤞

It’s with deep, deep sadness that Ernie passed on 6th May 2025. He was 13. Myself (his human dad) and the rest of our family are devastated. He was so loved and will be in our hearts forever. He was the gentlest boy ever and we were blessed to have him in our lives. Rest easy my dear companion xxxxx

Dazzle (Azza)
I’m Available
I used to volunteer at hrh, so I know Dazzle. I know you're not allowed favorites but I did have a soft spot for this wonderful boy. I only ever walked him on site and he always was polite and patient when putting his lead on, walked nicely. He loves a groom and a cuddle. I really hope it won't be long until he gets a home. He so deserves a family of his own. Good luck Dazzle ❤️

I met this lovely boy this morning and instantly fell in love! Such a beautiful nature, and although he is blind in one eye it absolutely doesn’t phase or bother him at all, and it certainly doesn’t stop his tail wagging or him giving out great kisses! Xx

There was a festive atmosphere at the kennels today as our Well Care Assistant Laura and Kennel Assistant Louisa both celebrated a milestone birthday. After cleaning & feeding was done ( the lovely Dazzle getting my Gold Star clean kennel award), we had a little party for the ladies with a yummy cake - whose candles set the smoke alarm off (I’m saying nothing 😂😂!!) It was lovely to meet our recent new arrivals and what a beautiful bunch they are. It’s amazing to see so many different personalities, some quite wary and shy and others with super waggy tails dispensing kisses all round. Kodos is already becoming a kennels favourite with his beautiful nature, quite small for a boy but adorable. Gorgeous is gorgeous, quite big for a girl and has a lot to say for herself!! Tickets for our Grand Birthday raffle are selling well, so next time you’re at the kennels why not buy a few? Our friends at Fivelands Vets have very generously made a donation to enable us to offer some great cash prizes. If you’d like to meet any of our residents please give us a call and make an appointment, we look forward to welcoming you and hopefully finding you the paw-fect match. Angie x

I met this lovely girl yesterday. I sat down to give her a cuddle and she leaped on top of me and gave me a kiss, she bounced around after wagging her tail. Whoever takes this beauty home is going to have a lot of fun with her.

I took Gino to the park yesterday. I think he recognises me and associates me with with going to the park, because as I walked towards him with his lead he was jumping up and down with excitement. He didn't want to hang around and we set off at a brisk pace. He was well behaved in the park and once again, a pleasure to walk. He is a very handsome companion 😍

Lady
I’m Homed
Lady has made herself, and her bowl, very much at home here. She has found even more bowls to carry around but has also taken to a selection of toys that she loves. Today, she has been to greyhound playgroup where she lived up to her name, being a perfect Lady, when walking and having a cafe break with the other hounds. She has already learnt her name and several commands - she’s a very clever girl who just wants to please.

It felt so strange at the kennels this morning, only 4 doggies and one of them - the lovely Dolly, went off to her forever home at lunchtime. So there’s now only our 3 black beauty boys on site! Whilst we are over the moon at the homings that have taken place over the last couple of weeks, our 3 amigos Gino, Dapper and most recent arrival Dazzle are a bit fed up that they’re still patiently waiting for it to be their turn. Wishing everyone a Happy Easter and hope you enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend, the weather’s hit and miss at the minute but keep fingers crossed 🤞. We’re open as usual all weekend so come down and say Hello to our boys, they’d love to see you. We have some new arrivals coming on Monday, so watch this space! Tickets for our Grand Birthday Raffle are now on sale, we’d like to thank Fivelands Vets for their generous donation enabling us to offer some great cash prizes. Get your tickets next time you pop in, or give us a call and we can sell you some over the phone. The draw will take place at our Greyhound Summer Fayre at the kennels on Sunday 29th June. Angie x
