We hope your tail gets better soon. Ele ripped her tail open on a rose bush a few years ago and it took several visits to the vets,some stitches and plenty of nursing to heal. We send you our love for a fast recovery and an electronic cuddle for now! A & P Ele and Paddy xx

Hi Tash & John, Skip occasionally wakes us up in the night barking, usually because he can hear foxes in the garden. I thank him for letting me know they are there and ask him to go back to bed...this is something I learnt when I attended a weekend training course with Tony Knight when he visited the kennels last year. It really does work for us; once Skip has told us about the potential danger outside and is happy we have acknowledged his warning he gets back into bed and I tuck him in with his favourite toy! Hope Brae will soon settle again. Kate Xxx

Mel has today been out and about in Brueton Park. He showed quiet curiousity towards other breeds of dogs but displayed no aggression whatsoever. He travelled well in the Trust Van with Laddie and they interacted together perfectly. Having seen this I'm sure he would have no problem living with other greyhounds. He walks sensibly on the lead and although arriving at Daybreaks quite late in life at 7 years of age and having fathered 4 offspring this lovely gentle dog is more than ready to settle into his forever home.

Hi Ruth, thanks for the suggestion but we were 'warned' not to put a housecoat on Brae when she slept as she chews through them... and having her here just over 2 weeks now, I can confirm that she's done that to one she had only just had fastened up! She's not cold as fleece blankets are over her at bedtime which I get up to recover several times every night (I know, I've made a rod for my own back haven't I). Last night we had 3 barking sessions during the early hours and each time, Brae (quickly followed by Rosie) ran to the front door and stood there staring at it. Despite being asked, she didn't need to go out to toilet and as soon as we said "Stop", she returned to her bed and promptly went back to sleep (leaving us 3 wondering what had just happened). At 5.45am this morning she woke us with barking and again ran to the front door, at which point John said he thinks she's having bad dreams. In the last week alone, we've had 3 (large) men come in through the front door to give us quotes for work and it's got us thinking that it's playing on her mind whilst asleep. We'll see how she goes over the next few days, but as I type this, both Brae and Rosie are curled up together on our bed fast asleep... oh the luxury of nabbing 40 winks during the day!

Need to share, Archive and I are waiting for vet to ring. For the last week Breeze has had tail problems starting with happy tail, Then weds morning she could not lie down as tail was to sore took her to vet who thought was bruised and tip where wound was also bruised, she had metacam jab was happier. Made it bleed again and I wrapped it and covered in vet wrap to hold dressing on. When it was unwrapped sunday she was crying in pain and unable to put it on the floor, I rewrapped and took her back to the vet who booked her in for x-rays etc on weds morning. Vet then rewrapped tail after seeing how much better she was and gave her painkillers til weds. At 3am she had chewed her bandage off and taken the tip of her tail off, Vet is worried she may have to have more taken off as bottom is cold and there is still the problem that was being x-rayed.Feel very lonely with out her house is quiet with only one. Positive thoughts for her please . XXX

I won't travel a dog in my car unless behind the safety of a guard I saw a really badly injured dog come in the vets where I worked once due to being un-restrained, I know I am probably over reacting but that picture has never left my mind so unfortunately it does restrict boot space when you have a guard in place. I pick my car up on Saturday and when Jed in properly settled in it I will see exactly how much room there is.

Hi TJ - do you put a coat on her at night? The most common problem I get alerted to this time of year is toileting at night. Even if you leave your heating on or you wrap a blanket round your grey putting a coat on your grey will hopefully do the trick and really help.... let us know how you get on. Sometimes trying a crate helps settle them too - if you want to borrow one, just let us know. Alternatively some herbal calming tablets or a DAP diffuser can help x

Hi Caro - I used to fit 4 greys in a Peugeot 206! The girls, although usually smaller, quite often make up for it in temperament! Maggie who is 14 and my smallest grey is the one with the biggest personality in our house!!!!!

John and I took this cheeky little monkey back to the vet today for a blood test to see if she's suitable for Metcam long term... answer = Yes, which is great news as the movement in her injured hock appears to be far more comfortable for her since taking the medication. Tomorrow morning we have to supply them with Brae's wee sample so they can make sure her kidneys are working properly. Despite a slow start on the munching front, Brae now eats like a horse (must be my culinary skills!), but her weight today shows that she's lost a kilo in the last 2 weeks. It's more than likely down to the walking we're doing with her and the jogging round the garden/home she's enjoying with her big sis. We'll keep an eye on it though as she's a little skinny ribs already and we don't want her to lose any more. Pasta, mashed potato, veg, sardines, sausages, chicken, minced beef and yoghurt have all proven a big hit which saves me the job of washing her bowl! She's also mastered how to nibble a dentastix and doesn't complain during her daily teeth clean. Following a two day set back last week when weeing indoors raised it's ugly head again, I'm pleased to report that we're nearing the end of 4 days without any incidents inside. Our wooden doorstop was found in shreds in her bed and there's not much left of Rosie's toys either, but she seems happy to share everything with her little mate. For the past 5 nights, very soon after we've all gone to bed and lights have been turned off (dim hall light still on), Brae has decided then is the best time to start barking - she doesn't do this at any other time. To say we've been woken with a start is understating it however, dutifully, we've wrapped up warm and all 4 of us have gone into the garden, where Brae has then decided to let us know if she needs to toilet or is just hearing noises again. Last night we were up 3 times and it's become the norm for us to have a cuppa sometime between 2.30-3.00am! As she's not cold and has toileted before bedtime, we'd welcome any suggestions as to why she may be doing this and ideas on how to stop it will be much appreciated. The vet has suggested that we ignore it but I'd hate for her to be desperate and we wouldn't let her out. She walks great on the lead, quite often I have to check to make sure she's still attached; doesn't show any interest in cats or other dogs, wants to befriend every human walking past and jumps at what we consider to be slight sounds i.e. leaves rustling as we walk by. This is getting better though as she gets used to sounds whilst out & about. As with our little Rosie, we love Brae to bits and the two of them appear to adore each other which has made our job of 'Mom & Dad' so much easier. Tash & John

You could also maybe look at cadbury n Laddie, 2 lovely lads who have both been returned n have spent time in the kitchen with my 2 non grey boys n where both great n very chilled! I'm sure u will have a new friend for Jed very soon! Good luck! X
