How desperately sad. I'm having to wipe my tears away as I write. 8 years isn't that old in the grand scheme of things and I'm sure that Lula Belle has plenty of happiy times ahead. Hopefully she won't be at the kennels for too long. After all, she must be house trained, socialised and all ready to go. Good luck Lula Belle. xxx

I can only echo what has already been said, what a heartbreaking decision to have to make and under such circumstances. Fingers crossed for a speedy rehoming, we have seen it before with Surprise and Teaser, there are owners out there for these beautiful oldies.

Hello Dannie. Smartie is a lovely, lively girl who loves her walks, but she really needs the company of another dog and people around her to feel happy and secure. She is presently in a foster home with 3 other dogs and loves to play, we can arrange for her to come in, or why not pop along to the kennels to have a look at the boys & girls, we will be happy to show you round.

Hello, I'm new to the site, and I am looking to adopt a fairly young and active greyhound or lurched. Smartie looks gorgeous, and just wondering if she likes her walks etc or is she a very sleepy greyhound? Thanks!

My cuddle today goes to Lula Belle. There are so may losses in this heartbreaking story. She has lost her mum and lurcher brother and Elizabeth's family have lost a precious daughter. Let's hope that her stay at Daybreaks is a short one for all the right reasons. Lula Belle is a half sister to my beautiful Lola, which gives her automatic rights to my e-cuddles as well. She's got a bit of catching up to do in the grey-face department but I am sure she'll make a wondeful addition to someone's family. Fingers and paws crossed here for a swift rehoming for this lovely girl. xxxx

How sad for Lula & for her family, and how brave to give her up if she can no longer be cared for. My thoughts go out to her family and I hope she is lucky soon. I have rehomed older dogs (Greys & others) in the past and they truly are a delight usually well past barking, chewing, biting & young dog silliness and happy to settle for a quiet life. Hope she's lucky soon.

It was heartbreaking to see Lula being returned today by Elizabeth's dad are thoughts are with him and the rest of Elizabeth's family.I hope he can take some comfort knowing Daybreaks will find this precious girl a lovely new home.She is a lovely girl with gorgeous snowflake markings.Lets hope she will be re-homed this weekend.

Hi Tracey met your new boy again this morning he is one big snuggle monster so be prepared for lots and lots of cuddles.This morning he was having his ears rubbed head on the lap of one the volunteers making a strange kind of purring noise absolutely loving all the fuss and attention.He is one lucky boy going to France and you are also very lucky to be welcoming this gorgeous boy into your home.He is a bit of a favourite down at the kennels and will be missed but everyone is so happy he is going to live with you.Bet you cant wait to meet him.

I love the support from everyone on here , advice and just general Greyhound interaction but Im just watching my girls sleeping and read the story of Lula Belle , I'd rather go through the pain myself of loosing a dog than the thought of whats happened with Lula Belle ,its so upsetting and my thoughts are with her and her family , someone please find her a home this weekend.... Im not going to put anything else up on Carries or Carlas page for the next few days as I think it would be wrong of me to do so when such a pretty girl needs such another good home , I think its every dog lovers worst nightmare , I took on a skye terrier Ollie ,before Teddy who's owner had died and he was only with me for 11 months before he died and I would do it again , even if I knew before I took him on how short a time we would have had together... So there would be no question about me doing the same thing for a greyhound , if I could Weight Clinic on Monday , so Ill be back then , Hopefully having heard some nice news for Lula Belle

Such a sad story - our hearts go out to Lula and her family. What has happened to her lurcher brother? Having rehomed an older lady who is such a joy, I would ask any prospective adopters not to be put off by her age and be encouraged by the fact she has been in a home with another dog. These dogs have seen it, done it and got the Tshirt so are no trouble and settle really well. They just want someone to love them and give love to and they ask very little - already house trained and love to sleep and chill out. Our little oldie seems to have found a new lease of life so please don't overlook this beauty. Can't wait to meet her when I pop up on Saturday xxx

Love it. An escape artist like my Bob and Norman (aka Steve Mcqeen the great escape). How many times i chased them in the car when the window cleaner left the gate open. Now sadly gone but not forgotten. Proper dog xx
