  • Riley (Boo)

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

It was with extreme sadness, last night I had a text from Riley's owner that Riley had been PTS. He had coli enteritis which is inflammation of the small intestine from Escherichia coli E. coli ) bacteria. Riley (Boo) was fetched from a car park in Worcester in March with Belle another greyhound. Their previous owner had taken them off a person who had threatened to hang them. Their owner had then become homeless and the dogs had lived in a car with him as he had no alternative. As a measure of desperation the dogs were tied up in a car park so someone could rescue them whilst the owner kept watch as apparently he had contacted numerous rescues in the Worcester area and non had been able to help. When the dog warden arrived the owner came forward and told the warden of his situation which is why we know so much. The warden contacted the Retired Greyhound Turst Head Office who in turn contacted Daybreaks and we took them in. Sadly Belle lost her fight with an intestinal tumour in May. It is a heartbreaking story for the lives of Belle and Boo (Riley) but I am sure they are both running free together and will never be forgotten. Thinking of his owners who are devastated xxxxx

  • Minnie

    I’m Homed

Well, it has been a year since I adopted the troublesome Minnie - time has just flown by. She is still just as cheeky as she was when we first got her, only now she has the confidence wreak even more havoc upon our home! Her newest trick is unzipping my mum's treat bag and eating all of the treats out of it. I also taught her to "speak", possibly the biggest mistake I have ever made as she loves doing it. My mum, however, does not think it is as adorable as I do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0t04Rc7MdU Problem is, she now speaks every time I put my knife and fork together or look like I have finished my dinner. She has also started lying down at my feet and then resting her head in a vertical position on my leg so she can look at me with her big sad eyes, because by not giving her my dinner I am obviously neglecting her. (In her view at least!) She also manages to talk whilst resting her head too. What a multi-talented girl. The other day we were playing a game and halfway through Minnie decided that I needed to be dragged to her bed. So she grabbed my hand in her mouth (gently of course) and then took me over to her bed where she let go of my hand, promptly lay down and then wiggled her paw at me because she wanted her tummy scratching. This past year with Minnie has just been the best of my life and she has taught me so much. I love her to bits and am so happy that Ruth asked me to foster her because otherwise I never would have chosen a dog like her. 🙂

  • Cheeky

    I’m Homed

I am desperate to find this beautiful girl a home asap. I am on holiday the last week of August and I really don't want to put her back into a kennel when she is used to home life. Cheeky has been a perfect house guest at ours and is great my with 6 greys who she knows but lives up to her name with my other house guests - and tells them off! She tends to be better with the boys than the girls so if anyone has a lonely male greyhound who would love a cheeky, loving, friendly girl to join their family - please let me know.
