I have ellie-may , which having allways had a rescue dogs over the years , ellie is my 1st greyhound, we have 2 boys in our house who were 7 and 9 at the time of adopting ellie and with any dog u have to set ground rules from day one. I had lots of advice from the volunteers and ruth at daybreaks on how to settle ellie into a home envoiriment , which has been invalualable. Ellie sleeps under the stairs in her bed and this is her place so when the boys are messing about in the lounge she has her place where she sleeps and she is left alone, when she is in the lounge then the boys know not to be running around like boys do! Ellie is a great dog and she had settled in from day one even though she was ten when we adopted her she has adjusted to a differen't way of life with no problems for us . As skinny me has said they are just fantastic dogs to have in any family . good luck.xxx

Hi Jojo2605. Obviously it depends on the dog, some prefer a quiet life while others can live in a lively household, the important thing is respecting the dog and it's safe place, if you have a boisterous household it would be advisable to position the safe place away from the main play area, teaching children that when the dog is on it's bed it must be left alone is very important. Why not come along to one of our organised walks and chat to greyhound owners who have children. Please don't discount a greyhound as a pet for you as they are fab, I am biased of course! Have a chat with Ruth at the kennels she has a wealth of knowledge.

I saw Lily May yesterday and she was so calm and beautiful (I was the lady with 2 young children, trying to convince my hubby to let me have one!) Whilst I would LOVE to have a greyhound, I think I need an honest piece of advice regarding young children: whilst my boys are very good and respectful to animals, do you think a greyhound would cope with the boistrous atmosphere our boys will naturally create in the house or are they more suited to a calmer environment?

This boy is amazing! I brought him home as I just couldn't leave him at the kennels. He spent most of the afternoon trembling and worrying us but rest assured now..... he is so settled and relaxed at our house. He has decided the best place to lay is by the front door so I hope we have no visitors as we have a heap of duvets there for him now!!! He is unmuzzled around the gang of 9 already here and is very chilled out and quiet. A wonderful boy who is in fantastic condition - he should hopefully find a home soon xxx my thoughts are with his previous owner who was obviously very upset at returning him but circumstances were beyond his control 🙁

I took lovely Lily May to the Just for Pets roadshow at the Swan today, she was perfectly behaved, a little overwhelmed and quiet at first but soon relaxed and was very popular, in fact she was so relaxed, when it was time to leave she was lying down and we couldnt get her up, Norman had to physicallly lift her into my car, lol. Sadly no real interest in her from there, but you never know!. It was a lovely day there, and we were very well looked after by the people from Just for Pets, and the management of the Swan Centre.
