    I’m Homed

Hi Maureen sorry if you already do some of this - I'm at work and need to be quick 🙂 They usually settle fine if they're either in your bedroom with you or outside with a child gate and their beds but the gate stops them getting in (if you prefer them outside the room) but they can see you. You can teach climbing stairs - I use two large bath towels, one round the dogs chest and the other under their tum just in front of their back legs then tempt them upstairs and when you want them to come down put the towels round them and walk them down the stairs by picking up their back end and moving it down a step then doing the same to the front end - like a puppet, the long towels mean you can stay upright and safe too. You;ll soon find they are zoomingup and down stairs themselves ... Also check out their food - if its Burns that's great otherwise make sure its less than 20% protein and avoid anything with bright colours. I'd also make sure they were getting a good hours walk morning and night and a final wee walk about 10pm then they are more likely to settle and maybe some pasta in their last feed to give thema full tum and so like they will be tired 🙂 Do use your training vouchers and bring them to one of our classes - if you're in Redditch we're at Immanuel Hall, Highters Heath Lane which isn't far from Junc 3 of the M42 every Saturday (not next week tho), just about every dog benefits from training which helps strengthen the bond between you and the dog, you can tire them out and have some fun 🙂 Give me a ring if you ant to join us 0774 7754759 J xx

Hi Maureen, we had this when we had our scond, we found if we let them sleep upstairs with us, as they could see us this meant they didnt cry and bark, but just went straight back to sleep.... do you lock them in a room? it depends how you feel about having dogs upstairs, but we found once thy could see us they just settled sraight back down. xxx

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

Hi, I first met Lucy back in August when we adopted Gemma as the two girls came in together. I also saw her again a couple of months later on a fund raising day at Daybreaks when she was sharing a kennel with her best friend Char. She is absolutely gorgeous and we log on to the daybreaks site every week hoping she has been adopted, but feel deeply sad to see her waiting for her forever family at Daybreaks. Gemma (our greyhoud) is a lovable big character in our house/family and is a perfect beautiful lady. So please anyone wishing to adopt take a look at Lucy, I'm sure you will fall in love with her - go on give her a home for christmas.

Just to say how right you were, everyone who told us greyhounds are scavengers! Having believed our two to be above all this thieving business having lived with us for a few months now I made the mistake of leaving three cooked chicken breasts on our kitchen surface to use for our dinner tonight and went into the garden for a few minutes ... when I got back in the house - two very waggy tails, three mysteriously vanished chicken breasts! I don't know what we're supposed to eat this evening - I wonder what Burns dogfood tastes like - ....?! (I've definitely learned my lesson about leaving food unprotected, haha!!!!!!!!)

We are having a well-earned break in Padstow for a few days and caught up with Boo who was homed here a couple of years ago - have just done a beach walk in the dark and she was off lead all the way! We have also just met Zampa and his lovely owners.... we will call him an honorary greyhound to get a mention here but he is a gorgeous white German Shepard boy who was just loving the fuss.... I miss my 4-legged family at home and Daybreaks so much.... I'm back soon! xxxx

Hhhmm. Been hoping Mistys family (inc the other grey) have been missing her terribly and reflecting. Perhaps they simply need a break. Having a baby is such a massive change, and sometimes coping with dogs and babies is v v stressfull, spesh for new mum...lauramc has offered help and advice - Ruth and daybreaks staff are there to help, is it really 're-homing' for Misty? Poor little sausage. If so hope the sweetest people welcome her, with or without 'people' puppies.

Hi Sylv, good news Sheena's leg has improved, I am sure the limp won't bother her. How lovely to hear how happy she is, she sounds like a lot of fun to have around. Twiggy still has her mad moments when she forgets about being a grown up! She has had a couple of accidents during the night this week, but generally the medication works well. We too are hoping to go on the Kingsbury walk so I will look for the new icemaid clan, it would be lovely to see you all. If we don't make it I hope you have a very Happy Christmas! Love Kate and Twiggy xxxx
