Holly
I’m Homed
The lovely Holly came with me to a roadshow at Melbicks today. She needed a helping hand into the boot but once in settled down and enjoyed the journey. Saturday mornings there is a puppy club at Melbicks so Holly got to see lots of different breeds. Eventually Holly realised they were all dogs just like her but smaller and lost interest even when a 14 week cockerpoo came and lent against her legs. Holly did really well today. If Norman has time to take her to the park to meet some more dogs I think Holly will make a great family pet.

2019 Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
What a lovely warm and sunny day today. Very quiet for volunteers, so we chained Ruth to the office and phone!!lol, whilst James and I did all the morning walks down the very shady lane. It was actually very pleasant indeed and I enjoyed the walks - just wonder how far in total I have walked today!! You can't beat being out in the fresh air getting some exercise in the company of these beauties. After walks I decided to strip and spring clean the back kitchen kennel. Nick had been using the kitchen run during the morning as he is much happier seeing what is happening around him and interacting with you. Well, he decided to be very "helpy" as I was trying to get a clean cover on the duvet - jumping up onto the bed and sitting down on the cover - then looking at me as if to say "well, this is a bit flat and hard!!" He is very inquisitive and very intelligent, the training Ruth has been doing with him is really showing results. She took him to visit the chickens again this afternoon and after an initial show of interest he responded well and came straight away when called. He is doing so well - just needs his chance on his own sofa now. Our new arrivals Shamus and Maggie are lovely - especially the dainty little Maggie who was as bright as a button today following her spey. Her tail goes round like a propeller, and she so reminds me of the lovely Vera both in looks and temperament. Ruth had a dash to the Vets this afternoon with Saddle, who came back in from his play in the sand run with blood coming from his mouth. His poor gums are in a bit of a state and he has a course of antibiotics to help, hopefully he will be feeling better very soon. I did some health checks this afternoon and must say the boys and girls were excellent whilst being weighed, having teeth cleaned and nails clipped. Sully was especially helpful by walking into the treatment room and standing straight on the scales!! We had a visit from Rory and his new Dad, who has decided he needs more nail clipping practice! and Sid's family came to visit him again and spend more time with him. Well, yet another weekend is upon us. I know that some of those red signs will be turning green and I am keeping fingers crossed that some new red signs appear. Have a great weekend one and all Angie xx

Thank goodness I don't watch Emmerdale religiously as by the time I finished at the kennels yesterday the end credits were playing... ha ha - it was a looooonnnnggg very busy day but productive! Maggie was speyed and we had visits from many people including the new owners of Seren who took her in the sand run and Sid's new owners where we did some lead training as the big handsome fella pulls on his lead sometimes. We also worked with Eric who is going to be adopted directly from his racing owners who also needed some lessons on how to not pull on the lead.... all owners did really well and responded to their training 😉 Massive thanks go to Simon who spent several hours putting up the sand run fence security bars to increase the safety for those using the run and in return I did Bo and Amber's nails - I think I got the easier end of the deal! It has been really busy day today so far with just myself, Angie and James but I am off to the vets in a bit with Mr Saddle who has got sore gums and I think a course of antibiotics will do the trick! Rory's dad has just been to visit and to practice clipping nails with a view to buying some.... erm..... he decided not to buy clippers after all after his attempt and Rory had a treat after I had finished rinsing the blood away!!!! Come back Kate soon...... I'm missing you and would quite like a day off!!!!! 🙂 xxx

A very Happy Gotcha Day to a special little girl! There is never a dull moment when Lucy brings Ellie to the kennels. :)) She is so quick and clever, she never misses the chance to sample what is on offer in the kitchen! Wishing Lucy and Ellie lots of happy years together. Sending you both a big hug. Xxx

Roy
Over the Rainbow Bridge
Roy and his brother Saddle have come such a long way since I first met them at the beginning of the year. They walked so nicely today and it would be great if they could find an experienced owner with whom they could share their life and love. They're intelligent boys who need to find their own sofa. Cuddles tonight xx

Ellie
Over the Rainbow Bridge
How the times flies! Today marks a year since I took my little food monster home. I remember as soon as I took her home thinking “oh god what have I done” as she proceeded to try and raid the counters, cupboards and fridge within 10 minutes of being in the house. The first time I brought her to the kennels with me she pinched the ham and cheese Ruth had bought for Bob’s sandwich (sorry Ruth… and Bob!) and I was mortified. There's been so many times she has stolen cake and such from the kennel kitchen and me and Kate are still shocked by it everytime... really we should know by now she is just too clever! I have to say, she has been a massive learning curve for not just me but my whole family, she can be so naughty but I wouldn’t change her for the world, she’s changed my life for the better in so many ways and I love her to bits. To celebrate she’s enjoyed a battered sausage from the chippy and is now snoozing cuddled up with her favourite toy! xxx

Holly is a smashing little girl. She's very loving and walks so well on the lead. She seems to have a calm nature, completely ignoring the barking labrador in the lane and going back into her kennel happily for a cuddle xxxx Lovely girl xx
