Hi Missfifi, so sorry to hear about your beloved Frank. Looking back I think Suzie has had this condition coming on for a about a year. The last two lots of injections she has had, I asked the vet to listen to her heart thinking she might have a heart murmur. Her cough/gagging has been worse recently, and on investigation under anaesthetic, the vet found that her larynx had narrowed somewhat. They can offer an operation as it becomes much worse but like you I don't know if I could put her through that. We will just do our very best for her and enjoy the time we have with her. Thanks Caro for your help. Our vet said that Suzies Creatinine levels were raised even though he recognised that greyhounds had a slightly higher level than other dogs, but I think you are right that she should have it tested again in a few months. Thanks again.

I am so happy to hear about Henry, Henry has touched both my husbands and my heart, we had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times and he had a run with our two at daybreaks, there is something very special about him, he reminds us so much of our first greyhound, if we were in a different position and we had not got our two, we would have apopted Henry in a heart beat, I would say to anyone Intrested in Henry please do not be put off by his age he has years ahead of him , it would be so wonderful to see Henry settled, I look forward to hearing how Henry is progressing, fingers crossed for Henry, I know many people love this very special lad xx

Thats my boy!!! He has always been well behaved and I would like to stress to everyone generally that there are no behaviour issues other than if he sleeps with another dog, which again I must stress is my fault. Mel & Henry both had real separation anxiety if forced to sleep away from me. However, they have no problem in sleeping in their own beds next to mine. At the time of this incident they had been in their own beds but then without my knowledge as I was downstairs they both ended up on my bed. He is wary of men, for what reason I dont know, but does come round. Like my other 2 boys he has always enjoyed going to different garden centres, Solihull town and various parks. There have never ever been any issues around food or when I'm giving treats to them all. We are still very devastated and missing him like crazy. It is some small comfort that he is being treated like the special boy that he is. He too will also have been affected by being taken out of his home so he also deserves extra love and attention at this miserable time. He probably had a tiny accident because hes not in the bedroom. I hope he enjoys the rest of his stay. Please keep showing all the love and kindness to my very special boy. With more gratitude than I can say here. Seana x

I have experience with this condition with my beloved boy Frank. He suffered with auto immune conditions which affected his nails and his eyes and developed this condition when he was about the same age as Suzie. He coughed and spluttered when eating which got progressively worse and which was increasingly distressing for him. I explored the surgical options which did, eleven years ago, exist. In the end I decided against it. The risk of complications seemed to me in his case too great and my beloved boy was pts. He had bravely battled with dry eye, goggles (!) and claws which dropped out all the time for most of his life and I felt his time had come to go to the bridge. It took about a year for the condition to get to this point. If you are not already seeing a referral vet at the Willows it may be worth doing so. I am sorry that I cannot be more positive but every grey is different. In the end it's the quality of life today that matters for me and my hounds - everything crossed that Suzie has lots of quality time with you and all who love.

DAY 2 Last night Henry tucked himself down on his bed by the radiator in the kitchen and that is where he stayed with night lights and classical music playing all night, not a murmur to be heard. He did have an accident during the night but nothing a mop and bucket couldn't sort out! We visited a garden centre today, Henry was a touch apprehensive to start but settled quickly. He appears on occasions somewhat shy, especially around men he doesn't know however he soon overcomes this with a wag of the tail. Henry is exceptionally well behaved when we are eating our meals, he lies patiently on his bed until we have finished and then is rewarded with a treat. As the day draws to a close it has become very clear that Henry asks for nothing yet gives so much......bless him.

Max

A Max update. Well Max has been with us officially since 9th January. When he first came home just after Christmas on foster he was still a little unsure and did whine at night when left downstairs, which resulted in me spending a few nights on the sofa to reassure him everything was ok. After a few nights we managed to get him to 'do the stairs', initially he would only do this at bedtime. In the past 2 weeks he has become a stairs Pro and started to go up during the day, but only to follow someone up there. He is such a loving and affectionate gentle boy giving masses of kisses and his tail never stops wagging, he loves his food and has now discovered the toy box. This now usually results in me picking up all the toys that have been taken out of said box by him and putting them back, quickly followed by the game of lets get them all out again! There is an awful lot of squeaking and toy ragging going on, he loves it. He took a Sid the snake out the other day, walked passed Willow who promptly proceeded to grab the tail end, resulting in a great game of tug of war. This only stopped when Sarah (who was lying in the middle of the floor underneath where they were playing) lifted her head and gave a most disapproving look at being disturbed, to which Willow dropped her end and Max quickly went off the victor. They all get on so well and it is as if he has been with us forever. He is so very, very well behaved and has enjoyed the walks at Solihull and Kingsbury with all the other Greys. I am just so happy he has been able to come into our lives, he is an absolute joy. Love you Maxi boy. xxxxxxxxx

Don't have any info on the Larangeal problem but re the Kidneys if Suzie has just had a blood test only I would advise a repeat one in a couple of months, Greyhounds have a very unusual blood chemistry and often have what is termed raised creatinine levels which in non greys would indicate kidney problems but in greys can be quite normal. Having said that if you vet is certain it's kidneys then there are diets you can put them on to give the kidneys an easier time.

Suzie has just been diagnosed with Larangeal paralysis, does anyone have any experience with this condition please? To top it all the blood tests she had also showed that her kidneys are failing. So any tips/ thoughts on either would be gratefully received.

Not a good start for Lottie this morning I stepped on her foot accidentally when she was lay on the kitchen floor behind me. I then managed to trip over her whilst carrying one of the water bowls depositing its contents over her! Poor Lottie
